The doctor recommended that Lin keep her arm in the sling for another week, but Lin was stubborn. They didn't have much experience with earthbenders in the City anyway, so they didn't know that they were tough and healed fast. So when she felt a dull ache in her arm after chasing five gang members wanted for extortion halfway across the city, she figured she could ignore it and just favor her left hand.

She'd finally cornered them in a dead-end alley. Their guns had been easy enough to remove using her metalbending, but two of them had bats. Wooden bats. Still, shouldn't be a problem for her cables. "You can come quietly, or not," she called out. "Either way, you're coming with me."

Unfortunately for Lin, after giving chase for the better part of an hour, they weren't ready to just give up now. One of them hurled his bat at her, sending it spinning through the air on a collision-course with her head. She shifted quickly to dodge, but was just a little too late. The bat slammed into her right arm, causing her to let out a shout as white-hot pain shot through her forearm. She instinctively clutched her arm, fighting just to stay on her feet and conscious. Meanwhile, the thugs began to close in around her.

She could still get out of this. She'd been in worse situations. But not too many.

It was a rare night when Diana could find the time to patrol the streets for more than a few hours, and it was a mere coincidence that she flew past that particular street. The streetlights barely illuminated the dark alley, but she could still see the men close in on Lin.

Diana quickly shot down to the ground, focusing on pushing the gang members back so the other woman could get her bearings.

Lin couldn't really tell what was going on at first, just that the thugs were apparently backing off. As her vision began to clear, she could make out the brightly-colored hero in front of her. Usually, she'd prefer to handle things herself, but in this situation, she actually felt thankful that one of the wildly-clothed vigilantes had been around.

She gritted her teeth and let her right arm dangle uselessly at her side as she pointed her left fist at the nearest enemy. Her cables shot out, smacking him to the ground.

Diana could immediately tell that these men weren't experienced fighters, and thus wasn't too concerned about Lin rejoining the fight -- especially since it looked like she was making quick work of the gang members using her cables. Despite making a conscious effort not to injure anyone more than she had to, it won't be too long before the altercation drew to a close.

Lin was still reeling from the blow, but the criminals went down soon enough. She started binding their hands and feet with pieces of cable, trying not to show any signs of pain, and probably failing.

"Thanks," she called out to Diana. "If you hadn't shown up..."

"It's what I do," Diana replied, giving Lin a smile. But her expression quickly changed to one of concern, and she took a step towards the other woman. "How badly are you hurt?"

Lin gritted her teeth as she continued to tie up the thugs. The Beifong family had never been the best at asking for help. "I'm fine," she muttered. "Just hurt my arm a little."

She almost reached out to place a hand on her arm to inspect it but thought twice about the action. Something told her that Lin wouldn't appreciate it. "Are you certain? Did the injury happen right before I arrived?"

"Yeah," she muttered, touching the arm unconsciously and then trying to mask a wince. "I hurt it a while back. Guess the fight caused it to flare back up." of course, she was conveniently leaving out that baseball bat lying a few feet away. The last thing she wanted was a superhero in a patriot swimsuit trying to get her to go to the hospital.

"If you need to take care of your arm, I can handle bringing these men to the station." Diana will probably attempt to convince her to go to the hospital, if Lin showed any sign of purposely ignoring her injury.

"I said it's fine," she snapped, maybe a bit rougher than even she intended thanks to the pain. She sighed and glanced away. "I guess... I guess I wouldn't turn down some help, though."

To her credit, Diana didn't look taken aback at all. She was used to working with people who didn't exactly have the most pleasant temperaments, and Lin had just gone through a particularly bad experience. "Perhaps I can cover your patrol for the rest of the night if you need to rest."

"No," she responded abruptly. Still, she'd be at a disadvantage for the rest of the night with her right arm basically out of commission. She could maybe fashion a cast out of earth if she patrolled near the park. "But... guess I could use someone to cover my right side."

"I'll be glad to." Never mind that she was heading home to do more work -- that can wait. She extends her left hand towards Lin, a smile on her face. "I should introduce myself. My name is Diana."

Lin nods slightly and accepts her hand. "Lin Beifong. I'll warn you: I'm not really used to working with a partner."

Diana shook it firmly. "Warning taken. Though I believe I'm used to it enough for both of us, so you don't need to worry about that."

"Good. Let's drop these morons off at the station, and then swing by the park." She paused momentarily. Generally, she traveled by swinging across the rooftops with her cables. But since one arm was incapacitated, well... that would be interesting.

Diana thought it was a figure of speech, but the pause made her look at Lin inquisitively. She didn't press the subject, instead reaching to lift three of the men off the ground. "Can you handle the other two?"
