It was impossible not to notice the humans' 'retreat'. Vector paused a short distance away, eyes following the parents taking steps to guard their young.

He could hear the sigh easily enough.

"They hardly know better," he mused aloud, voice carrying well enough. It was unclear as to which he was referring to, parent or children, but...the fact remained. If they were in danger...they'd have already been harmed.

"Have they reason?"

Other than the obvious judging on appearances alone, but...the question is light, not meant to pry so much be dry.

Humans - many species - are so quick to fear what they do not understand.

And as he had noted, the other man seems peaceful enough.

At that, Vector nods. "I trust, then, that time will at least give them something else to think about." It may not heal all wounds, but...the years can lessen the pain. Especially if the reminders...drop off.

"...forgive me if I am bothering you," he says after a moment. "There are so few who hold a shape other than human, I found myself interested."

It's as much an opening for him to be dismissed as anything.

"She gave you a choice?"

Vector sounds a bit surprised, but the look is only on his face for a moment. Really, with what else he's seen...it shouldn't be too surprising, to him. Especially not when he's seen some attain inhuman form through their own determination.

"A good number, but not...all. Some of my fellows...the closest they ever got to returning to their true forms was to construct a shell, and to transfer their spark to it." Something...he was never quite interested in.

Being human wasn't enough to drive him that far, though he could not fault them for their own choices.
