the formal (icon of hell optional)

WHO: [OPEN]
WHERE: the Brandt Banquet Hall
WHEN: Sunday March 29
WARNINGS: B|
SUMMARY: the superhero formal. Will things explode?
FORMAT: whatever you feel like

There are extensive tables for hor d'oeuvres, small desserts, and champagne as well as an open bar. Room for dancing is obvious, flanked by a small group of musicians. And there are alcoves for the shy, the hiding, the amorous, the machinating, or the creeper lurking.
liverletdie: (I'm listening)

Tony's eyes widened a small amount, before he shook his head and chuckled to himself softly. "Well its good to finally meet you in person, Raven," he said, a dashing smile curling up his lips. "You do look beautiful tonight," he complimented, bringing his own glass of water up for a long drink.

"Did you come alone?" he questioned her, once his glass was lowered from his face.

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, no."
She turned slightly, addressing a dark-haired young man standing nearby before turning back.

"I am simply making the rounds in the room - this is my employer's event, I anticipated that he would be pleased if I greeted and mingled with a few of his guests as well."
liverletdie: (Ladies Man)

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Tony nodded, flashing her a smile as he did so. "I'm sure that would make him happy, if he's like most people who throw these types of things," he mentioned lightly. He had always liked it when Pepper and Happy had made rounds at his own functions, especially when he was otherwise indisposed.

"Do you think your escort would mind if I asked you for a dance?" he questioned, indicating the band, which was winding down on a song. Perfect opportunity, as always.

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
The offer surprised her, and the emotion was clearly written all over her features as she stared at him for what seemed like a full minute, when it was only a few seconds in passing. She... had not anticipated someone to ask her to dance, especially not someone like him.

However she managed to smile, gently setting her glass of champagne aside and offering out her hand.
"I do not think he would, I would be honored."
She sighed gently, enough that he wouldn't be able to hear her, just enough to wind down her now tense stomach at the thought.
liverletdie: (Oh christ)

ROFL. Wrong Tony account.

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Tony laughed at the apparent surprise, and took her hand gently. "Its a party, what would it be if there weren't people out on the floor dancing?" he asked her, leading her out onto the dance floor while the band took a slight breather.

They passed a server, and he set his glass of water down on the tray, perfectly willing to find another later if he was going to have the honor of dancing with the host's assistant. On top of that, a beautiful woman and someone who didn't want him to die of some terrible disease. Really, things were doing quite well for Tony Stark, thus far.

XD IMPOSTER!

"I suppose that's true..."
Raven tossed a few glances around at the others they passed, almost uncomfortably, subconsciously squeezing the hand that was holding hers once they made it out onto the dance floor. Alright, nervous did not even begin to describe the feeling she was now having - they were most likely one of the first couples to dance that night. At least, as far as Raven could tell.

"I must admit I am still surprised you came - others with much less of a reason to stay away are still at home, yet here you are."
liverletdie: (Awww yeah)

ITS HARD TO KEEP THEM STRAIGHT, OK? ;o;

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Tony gave her a soft, reassuring squeeze, before leading her onto the actual dance floor, taking the lead like he had been taught to do. Really, Tony Stark did know how to Ballroom dance, after all.

Tony couldn't help but chuckle at her comment. "Maybe so, but this is something I'm very good at," he said confidently, drawing her into a twirl out on the floor.

IT'S OKAY ILU ANYWAY

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
She was unable to keep the smile from gracing her lips, managing to make somewhat of a giggle at the twirl before resting a hand up atop his shoulder, allowing him to lead in the dance.

Raven felt much more at ease now after that, her confidence lifting up enough for her to speak clearly. "So I can see," her tone was filled with amusement just before she laughed softly again, "And here I thought this night would either result in disaster, or be somewhat of a drag."
liverletdie: (Wait what?)

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Tony smiled as he led her through the dance, comfortable on the floor as he swayed and moved Raven across the floor. He lifted an eyebrow in a question as he moved.

"Oh it couldn't have been that bad without me," he said cheekily. He dipped her smoothly, before pulling her back, and resuming the dance.

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
She continued to smile quite brightly, the relief washing over her that she did not have to spend the entire night standing around feeling uncomfortable with herself and everyone else.

"On the contrary, I at least know who you are. Most of those here are strangers to me. I mean --- I attempted to convince Spider-Man into coming so that I would know someone, however." she made a slight head-tilt motion at nothing in particular. "As you can see, I wasn't very successful. He has other things he must worry about. At least with you here, I feel more at ease."
liverletdie: (Made of Awesome)

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Tony shook his head. "Maybe I'll have to tell Peter he needs to grow up, then," he said simply. "If he refused an invitation from you then he needs some words," he said, the words were stern, but his tone was light. He was, mostly joking, after all. He spun her around again, before bringing her closer again.

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
She managed another laugh, thankful that she had at least some grace naturally instilled in her - it was by that alone that she managed to not trip over herself, her dress, or even worse; him. She allowed her hand to rest a bit more relaxed on his shoulder than before.

"Peter is... concerned about things of late. I do not wish to bother him more than I already have." her words nearly trailed off at the end of her sentence.
liverletdie: (Public Relations)

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Tony had to admit that while Raven wasn't experienced at this, she was moving gracefully, and she was certainly a more than adequate dance partner for the song.

"Of course he is," he said, his voice dropping into something of a bland overtone. "After all, the man who made his life a living hell showed up," he admitted, directing the self-deprication at himself. Not that he really minded being so universally disliked. He had done what he had to, and those who didn't accept it, didn't matter in the long run to him. They wouldn't help him out when the time came anyways.

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
She managed to laugh at his words, despite the tone in which they were said - giving a very light shrug as she continued to dance with him.
"And here I had thought that I was alone in the running for that title," she raised an eyebrow up at him, briefly curious as to what he had been talking about, but deciding not to push such a topic. "What with my attempts to lure him into a relationship when he was already married. Giving myself some credit that I did not know, however I adequately made him uncomfortable."

She gave another light shrug, sighing softly, "C'est la vie."
liverletdie: (Just try me)

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Tony shook his head. "You have no idea how complicated everything is," he mentioned lightly. "Give Peter time," he added as he swung her around.

"Trust me, I'm pretty sure if Tony Stark doesn't draw eyes and cause a few attacks, then Iron Man will," he added with a chuckle. He was infinitely glad that he hadn't seen his wayward armor yet. It gave him time, which was something he desperately needed to prepare. Not that he didn't have plans for the situation, of course.

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Complicated? Time? ...
She tried not to dwell on that as she nearly fumbled over the dance steps, however managing to catch herself properly and resume her graceful stature.

"Well I do not doubt that, however it seems everyone is in the spotlight for some sort of attack, regardless of the size." she allowed herself to draw a little closer to him, lowering the volume of her voice. "But perhaps you do have it a bit worse than us others - how have you been holding up in that regard?"
liverletdie: (God STFU)

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Tony noted the lapse in grace, and adjusted, slowing a small amount to allow her to catch up before resuming his dance with her.

"No worse for wear," he said simply, a smirk curling across his face. "Things are certainly...terse in the mansion, but other than that, I can't complain," he said simply. He was living in a mansion with the man who he had inadvertently killed. There were far too many things wrong with that, but until he and Steve actually took the time to air out everything, it would remain that terse, uncomfortable situation. However, Tony could live with that. At least he hadn't been staying in the MAC.

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Well I am happy to hear that things are going quite well, then." she flashed him a genuinely sweet smile. "I had found myself quite worried about you for awhile, it had almost been an entire week since we had spoken."

The longer they danced, the more she became adjusted to the steps he was leading her in - she found herself no loner having to think about where she was stepping in order to keep up with him.
"Given that was the week of the attacks, I am sure you were quite busy, as the rest of us were."
liverletdie: (Inside and out)

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Tony shrugged. "Well, I'm not able to do much, but I try to help when I can," he said with a slight shrug. "Its going to still be a few weeks before I can actually get out and fight like everyone else," he admitted with a small shrug. Really, that was a generous guess, if he were honest with himself, but he was willing to make the attempt to build a suit in that time.

Before, the suit he had used with his Extremis had been an experimental suit that had already been built. He had spent close to over a year on the mechanics, if not longer, and it was going to take quite a while to get it done. "I'm touched you worried about me," he said sincerely. If he had died here, he doubted that it would have made much impact, although he was quite certain that things were falling apart back home.

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"You sound quite a bit like me - I had spent those long days at a healer's station relieving pain." the hand on his shoulder shifted enough for him to see she was lifting up a finger, to stress her following point, "Just the pain, as it's, of course, all I am able to do. I felt rather useless at the times when the injuries were quite severe. But I did my best."

She furrowed her brow slightly though, despite how pleasant the conversation was going.
"Emotionally, though, taking only yourself into consideration... how are you holding up?" a brief pause, "That is what I truly worry about - I apologize if it is too forward."
liverletdie: (Pensive)

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Tony brought a hand up, and waved it dismissively. "Emotionally?" he questioned. Tony, of course, had emotions, it wasn't like he was a robot like his armor, of course. "Just fine, I suppose," he replied airily as he spun her once again. "I don't think there's much I can actually complain about," he said simply, a smirk lifting up on his face.

Really, Tony wasn't one to actually discuss emotions, or really anything more than a need-to-know basis. It probably got him into far more trouble than it should.

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Despite how she had been acting before, this spin was met with only a soft, peaceful smile as she draws closer to him once more. "I see." she knew better than to push the subject when someone put up a wall of any sort.

"You must excuse me for asking, being one with empathic powers, emotions tend to take on an entirely new dimension of importance."
liverletdie: (Superstar!)

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Tony shrugged it off. "Don't worry about it, I understand how important they would be if that's where your abilities are grounded in," he said simply. "After all, if I landed in a world without computers, I'm pretty sure I'd be pretty miserable," he said with amusement as he swayed once again, perfectly in time with the music.

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
"One would imagine." she laughed gently, her face lighting up a bit - another individual with a charming wit, she briefly wondered if this was a trait of most the men that Peter 'worked' with. All those connected with her own team were either too young to hold a proper conversation, or were so deeply ridden with angst that they would forget to smile.

"Do let me know if something does come up? I am here to listen."
liverletdie: (Made of Awesome)

[personal profile] liverletdie 2009-03-30 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure you'll be the first I would go to," he said with a charming smile as he slowly spun her around on the floor. Tony Stark was a man who had spent far too many years working in the business world, which meant that emotions weren't exactly priority. His time as an Avenger had done some work on reducing those barriers, but at his heart, Tony Stark would always be a man within his own head, especially now that he had the Extremis.
