the formal (icon of hell optional)

WHO: [OPEN]
WHERE: the Brandt Banquet Hall
WHEN: Sunday March 29
WARNINGS: B|
SUMMARY: the superhero formal. Will things explode?
FORMAT: whatever you feel like

There are extensive tables for hor d'oeuvres, small desserts, and champagne as well as an open bar. Room for dancing is obvious, flanked by a small group of musicians. And there are alcoves for the shy, the hiding, the amorous, the machinating, or the creeper lurking.

He had sensed the girl far, far, far before she had gathered up the courage to approach him, and was thus ready for her arrival with a knowing, almost telling smirk.

"Good evening, child."

He couldn't tell which one of the Fallen had put his stink all over her, but at this close, the image of another pair of eyes superimposed over her forehead was more than enough of a clue in the right direction.

She faltered in how he greeted her - she had truly been expecting him to either ignore her, or come off coldly. But she managed to regain her composure moments later, a warm smile creeping onto her face.

"I am honored to be able to meet you in person, despite how I may have come off on past occasions of conversation. Please forgive me for those, I may have found your presence to be rather... intimidating."
She inhaled softly before continuing, "I suspect the night treats you well?"

I keep forgetting to say that he has this HUGE SCAR over his face.

He rolled his shoulders in a noncommittal shrug. Truly, if Lucifer had to be honest with himself -- which he was, despite all evidence to the contrary -- the night was proceeding exactly as was expected. He had danced, he had drank, and he had met the man hosting the event and shared...pleasantries with him.

Ergo, it had been a boring, routine experience. No wonder the girl had come to him: he must have been giving off waves of bordeom.

"It treats, I suppose." he cast a glance at one of the servers walking about, and met the man's eyes with a inclination of his head. "Would you like anything to drink?"

*takes note of that*

"Ah, yes. Thank you." she managed a smile, feeling more at ease now than she had been when she first approached him. Honestly, she could not figure out why her employer had been throwing such fits about Lucifer's arrival here. Yes, his presence would make any demon or angel's hairs stand up on end, however he was hardly rude or unpleasant when it came down to it.

Balthazar himself was far worse in mannerisms.
Years of being told she was nothing more than a "daughter of Lucifer", a "spawn of the devil"... it had built up this man to be some raging force of evil that would destroy in a single glance - however it seemed that he honestly didn't give a damn.
Strange... but who was she to question it?

She paused, going over some words in her head to make sure they came out correctly, "Is there anything I could do to make the night more pleasant for you?"
It was best to stick to the politeness before it faded away.

Is there anything I could do to make the night more pleasant for you.

Lucifer tried so hard not to laugh in the girl's face at the utterance of those words. She was so -- needy wasn't quite the world, but the Morningstar had the feeling that she would do almost anything in her power to try and come off as accessible, or "open" to strangers. It was definitively not a demonic trait infofar as it was; or rather, would be annoying.

He smiled up at her, at any rate. Manners, after all. "You could relax somewhat, dear."

[identity profile] darkprophecies.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Relax, right. She laughed softly at that, shaking her head more at herself than anything. "Right. I've practically brainwashed myself into acting this way for the evening."

She straightened her posture just a bit, taking a sip of the drink she took from the server's tray before easing her muscles. It wasn't going as bad as she feared... she had to remember that, and let a bit of her guard down for once. It wasn't as if the man was going to actually try anything here, not with this many people around.

She decided to be straight with her thoughts after all.
"My employer seems quite... disturbed by your presence to say the least." the thought humored her far more than it should have.

That, however, drew a small, coarse laugh from the Morningstar's throat.

"He never was one to look past his own nose," Lucifer offered up cryptically, taking a sip of his wine both to finally empty the glass and hide the mischievous little smile threatening to thread up the sides of his face. "Which is a pity, really. There is much potential in his name, and he squanders it on --" he gestures to the ballroom with his opposite hand. "This."

It was true, in a sense, but he wouldn't explain why even if she had asked.

"What would he be doing otherwise?" this notion honestly did confuse her - she had been led to believe that the entire ball was a clever ruse to lure in the minds of the heroes. Wouldn't that be a positive thing for those of demonic nature?

"I mean---" she glanced around the room herself, then looked at him with a rather odd innocence in her eyes, "--- from what I have heard from the guests in attendance, they're quite charmed by it, and by him. I would say that his manipulation is quite a success, all things considered."
