Who EVERYONE EVER
Where The Iceberg Lounge
When Sat, 9/29 in the evening
Warning Who knows?
Summary A black-tie event to help raise money towards City repairs along with good PR in the Import community. So eat, drink, and be merry, and enjoy the live music.
Format OPEN

The Lounge is decked out and fully stocked with more than enough booze and food to knock someone off their feet with a live band playing down at the left stage. D.O.I. employees stationed at the front were there to take the admission tickets to the event, and inside was the softly lit glory of Oswald Cobblepot's Iceberg Lounge- a long bar, servers and bartenders in tuxedos, tables below for idle chit chat, and hors d'oeuvres available thanks to an impeccable caterer.

The name of the game was to come and enjoy yourself, donate what you will, and maybe have a chance to reconnect with some of the Import community.

You have met the Mayor, right? [ The ordinary gesture's a strangely delicate operation to watch Hank perform; Bradbury watches it with a bit of mild interest, but he supposes he's had years to get used to not breaking his own glasses every time he needs to clean 'em. ]

Seems like the smart people are always the twitchiest. Is he another mutant?
professorlionface: (I'll explain this slowly.)

[Hands the size of Hank's make everything a delicate operation, but he's used to it. Baby, he was born this way.]

I actually served on a brain trust he put together last year. Of course I have.

But yes, Madison is one of us, though that isn't really what brought it about, I think. I don't think he had an easy time of it in the war. [Which war is hard to say anymore, thanks to sliding timelines.]

[ Which war? Bradbury almost asks, before he decides he's probably getting a bit too nosy about some guy he's never met. He'll file that information away for now, but there's something else he wants to know. ]

I had a question, about all that... mind-reading crap. [ An abrupt diversion of subject, but he hopes Hank doesn't mind. ] Can you learn how to protect yourself against that? Someone like me, I mean. [ With no experience in any kind of mental self-defense. ]
professorlionface: (I find myself brimming with thoughts.)

Psychic defenses? Well, in my experience, which is more varied than you might think, the best way to learn is to find a telepath to help you bolster them. I would provide some tips, but it's an abstract enough concept that you could hardly make any headway by merely knowing on a theoretical level. It must be practiced to be learned.

[Though it can never be perfect for non-psychics, so he appends a warning to that.] Of course, for a telepath of a high enough caliber, whatever level of defense you cultivate will likely be easily compromised. But navigation can be guided, if you learn enough about mental structures.

[Wow what is he even talking about.] It's a complex topic.

[ Wow, yeah, a lot of the details of that went over Bradbury's head, but he's good at condensing things down to the basics. ]

So the answer's 'you can try, but you can't really be sure it'll work'?
professorlionface: (What was I thinking?)

[Hank shrugs a little.] I'm afraid it can be a somewhat inexact science for those of us incapable of practicing it. There are scientific methods to provide better defenses, but they are almost exclusively clunky and awkward to use.

Something a little harder to carry around than a tinfoil hat, huh?

Well, yes. It isn't tinfoil for one, and beyond that would need to provide full cranial coverage.
