It was a beautiful city, green and lush. Morning mist locked fingers with older stone and quiet brick. Much of the populace lulled in the valley between two solid growths of mountains, cushioned in an ancient palm and electrified by the lively pulse of the crisp, rain-courted air. The temperature is brisk, chilly, but that shouldn't discourage you from enjoying the lakes and rivers breathing through the land. The city itself is equally crisp and its usually pristine avenues are ablaze with color; banners and posters and warm hellos. There was warmth everywhere, in homes and faces and hands.

[ She hasn't been going to every event, and she hasn't been drinking all that much because she is technically here as part of the City Hall envoy, even if it's not all that official a capacity, but she has been checking out both of them to a certain extent.

And today she spots a familiar face, someone she hasn't seen in a while, and threads her way through the crowd after him. ]

Julian! Hey, Julian!

[hellionated]

[ Julian's caught up with everything at first, and doesn't hear her over the noise of the crowd. Then, eventually, he hears someone calling and turns to push his way through the crowd towards them. He spots pink hair, and knows there's only two people that's likely to be.

And she sounds too nice to be QQ. ]

...Max? That you? [ He gets through the mass of people and grins at her. ] Hey. Been a long time, how are you? I figured you'd be working.

[ She finds herself grinning as he comes up, wide and pleased. It had been a while, and she hadn't particularly realized it but now that she was thinking about it she'd kind of missed him. ]

Totally me. It has been! [ She rocks back on her heels, still smiling up at him. ] I'm technically here to work but I'm getting a lot of free time.

What are you up to?

Uh, nothing. [ Default response. So he rolls his eyes and gestures vaguely at the crowd. ]

Listening, I guess. The guy actually made a speech worth hearing, unbelievable. Anyway that's the boring part. Are you going to the dance? [ By which he means masquerade, otherwise known as the major thing he's looking forward to here. ]

[ Oh, sure. She just laughs and shrugs. Okay, Julian, she can go along with that. ]

It actually was a pretty good speech, which was nice. Makes my job so much easier. And yeah, I am. I think I actually have to be? But I'd be going anyways. It sounds like a lot of fun, you're going, right?

Hell yes I am. It’s supposed to be like a 24-hour party, where else would I be? These guys seem to know how to throw a party.

[ Because seriously, even the carnival is cooler than it has any right to be. Even he’s finding it hard to see the down side. ]

What is your job here, anyway? You have to make sure we all behave?

They're definitely doing a really good job so far.

[ It's really fun here, basically. She's been finding it easier to relax and just have fun here than she's found it in a while. ]

My job is just import native relations, so as long as everyone's getting along and no trouble's being caused, I'm good.

If trouble happens here I don’t figure it’ll be our fault. [ He glances at her, smiling slightly. ] You look like you like it. How’s life been, Max? It’s been a while since I asked.

I definitely hope not. [ She shrugs, returning that smile. ] I like it pretty well, yeah. It's been good to get back to work, it's really interesting work. [ Distracting. ] Life has been, you know, a thing. So that's pretty cool. How are you doing?

I’d say City Hall work is interesting, yeah. I don’t know how you put up with the politicians. [ He looks at her again. ] I’m fine. I’m on a team again, that’s new. [ Two of them died the first time they fought. It’s awesome. ] I moved back to the MAC. The rest is the same boring crap.

[futurebatwoman]

I don't have to deal with them all the time, at least. They can be - well, politicians, though. When they are I duck and cover. [ Yeah, she backread enough to get a gist of what had happened there. It didn't sound fun. ] I may move back to the MAC soon too. Saves a lot of money, anyways.

[hellionated]

Yeah, but it's boring as hell. Which ain't always a bad thing, don't get me wrong, but still. I thought you had your own place?

[futurebatwoman]

It totally can be sometimes. [ She shrugs. ] I do, but Midii's - well, she's probably not coming back. It doesn't seem reasonable to keep a two bedroom apartment for one person and I've been too busy to really look for a new roommate.

[hellionated]

[ He looks at her, surprised. ]

That's why I moved back too. Cause Sofia's gone. [ Though he did keep the apartment. He doesn't want to let that go yet, he just can't live there. ]

Was Midii like...your daughter?

Hey, if you'd rather not be in the MAC, I've got a room and no roommates lined up at all. [ Yeah, she can understand that. ]

Well, I was technically her legal guardian, but it was kind of more like she was my little sister I guess.

[hellionated]

Yeah. I got one of those too. I didn't sell the old place. I don't know what the hell I'll do with it. The MAC'll do. It ain't great, but it ain't bad.

[ He sounds kind of awkward now. ] Sorry about your girl.

If you don't want to stay there, you could maybe rent it out. But yeah, I know. I don't really want to move back to the MAC because hey, the Porter's fickle, she could come back.

[ A shrug, and she glances over the crowds. ] It's been a while. But thanks. [ Distraction time okay okay yes. ] What type of wine is that even?

[hellionated]

It's been months. She ain't coming back. [ Though, he still has their apartment, and all of her stuff is still in it. Maybe he's not as sure of that as he says. ]

Anyways, I don't know. Venezuelan I guess? I don't care so long as it tastes good. Let's go find out.

Yeah, that's - what I've been figuring. [ But hey let's not dwell on things, right, right, no dwelling. ]

That sounds like a plan. I've got the afternoon and tonight off, I plan on taking advantage of it.

[ No dwelling, but distraction with wine and carnival? Yep, he's so on board for that. ]

Hell yes. There's no way you should be working during all this. Leave the diplomacy to the Mayor. [ Because it's okay for him to be working during this, obviously. ]

[ Awww yeah. ]

Definitely leaving the diplomatizing to him. Do you speak any Spanish? Because I really don't.

[ That makes him laugh. He had a Venezuelan girlfriend for the last year, you would think he'd have learned.

But nope. ]

I can't speak anything other than English. High school Spanish is the best I got, does that count?

[ He smirks at her. Well, he gave her fair warning. ] If we end up with something gross and alcoholic, you can't blame me.

[ Just grinning back, because this is now officially An Adventure and she likes those. ] I won't blame you at all. Sounds like fun.
