i learn resistance
WHO: BATWOMAN and YOU
WHERE: various places in the City. Rooftops, alleyways, etc.!
WHEN: backdated from the night of the 7th till the 11th
WARNINGS: violence and blood
SUMMARY: redhead bat doing her thing again. Running into people. Maybe helping civilians. Who knows? FIESTA PART II.
FORMAT: tagger's choice
[ It's not odd in that time most imPorts had either spent as a child or in Venezuela, crime had risen in the City to take advantage of the eerie silence from the heroes. What is odd tonight is as Kate's gaze falls upon the City at her vantage point, an unsettling silence is all she feels from streets. From the murky corners of the alleyways to the incredulous harbors, she knows it's all wrong.
No, it's--
She can't afford to lose her focus now. She never does when she's in uniform, leaving the troubles and other burdening thoughts behind at the apartment until she's returned. But somehow, she hasn't managed to shake it off when she's sitting atop of a high-rise building all by her lonesome.
Well, there's always work to be done. The dead air is shattered by the distant police sirens, as if timed to remind her of that fact. Without a moment's hesitation she dives off the side of the building, a blur of red and black that eventually sinks into the dark to get to work. ]

She turns to address him, long red strands masking part of her face. She smirks. ]
Like music to our ears, isn't it?
no subject
A song we can't resist. Shall we dance, then?
[ He's not Dick, and he doesn't have a lot of charm, but he could use a friend. He gestures off in the direction of the sirens, hoping she'll be up for company. ]

[ She doesn't have any real files on the other members of the Batfam. Whatever she "knows" about them comes from whatever is mentioned in the Gotham paper. She doesn't need to know; all she needs is for them to be competent. For as long as she's been in the City, she's fully aware of how competent they are.
Kate doesn't wait for him and is already swinging down her own line over to the next rooftop. ]

The smile stays on his face as he chases after her. ]
[ ooc: I'm total shit at writing fights, you want to hand wave forward to chilling on a rooftop later or ]
handwaved then!
Really, it was like she had never left the City.
To avoid police detection, Kate had slipped back onto the safety of the rooftops knowing Red Robin would follow. She doesn't need to glance over her shoulder. He's younger than her, clearly, but it affords her some comfort not having to think he's not capable of protecting himself. ]
Petty thieves never learn.

The rooftops are somewhere they all seem to gravitate to naturally, so of course he follows her. ]
Nice to know some things never change no matter where you go, huh?
no subject
Bad for civilians but gives us a job to do.
[ She honestly can't picture her life without duty. Where would she be? Probably back in bars and in the beds of nameless women. Nowhere. ]
no subject
Yeah. I always wondered what Batman would do if it ever all ended. If the city didn't need him.
[ Bruce always had plans for everything. Tim wasn't much different. But even Bruce had to know there wasn't a real end, right? ]
no subject
It will always need someone. [ Batman's human, of course, but someone else will rise to the call. She did and she assumes so did Red Robin, Batgirl, even Robin to some degree. ]

[ and he does. He told himself once that this was temporary, that he'd only be Robin for a bit, then he'd grow up and go to college and be normal. But it had always been self-delusion. Even before his dad had died, he'd realized he couldn't get out or be free of it. And he didn't really want to. What else did he have? ]
Do you miss Gotham?
no subject
Renee...
It's such an odd thing to discuss, even among fellow Gothamites. ]
I do.
But I [ we ] dwell on that all the time.
no subject
Yeah. I do, too.
This city...we can do the same things, I guess, but it's not home.
wow my last tag was supposed be she "doesn't" dwell IDK HOW I DID THAT
It happens! I figured that's what you meant x)
[ he manages a smile at that; the cowl hides the fact that it doesn't reach his eyes. ]
PHEW
[ She genuinely means it. Having another who knows what exactly they're doing is always helpful. ]
no subject
Thanks. I'm not...Batman. But I try.
This isn't home but if we can make it a little safer...
no subject
You don't need to be Batman.
[ Lord knows she's not, but she never will be. She's not molding herself after anyone. Kate didn't spend two years training and getting electrocuted, beaten, thrown, and chased to come back as anyone else but herself. ]
no subject
No. I guess. Even if I did need to be, I couldn't.
[ if it were Gotham, he'd argue that SOMEONE needed to be Batman. But in Gotham, someone WAS Batman. Here...well. ]
I should go back.
[ suddenly, he's feeling kind of awkward. Better to be alone when he's like this. ]
Thanks. For the company.
