[ It's not odd in that time most imPorts had either spent as a child or in Venezuela, crime had risen in the City to take advantage of the eerie silence from the heroes. What is odd tonight is as Kate's gaze falls upon the City at her vantage point, an unsettling silence is all she feels from streets. From the murky corners of the alleyways to the incredulous harbors, she knows it's all wrong.

No, it's--

She can't afford to lose her focus now. She never does when she's in uniform, leaving the troubles and other burdening thoughts behind at the apartment until she's returned. But somehow, she hasn't managed to shake it off when she's sitting atop of a high-rise building all by her lonesome.

Well, there's always work to be done. The dead air is shattered by the distant police sirens, as if timed to remind her of that fact. Without a moment's hesitation she dives off the side of the building, a blur of red and black that eventually sinks into the dark to get to work. ]

Evidently.

[It made sense, really, for people emulating the 'superhero' ethic to have black and white moral standards like that. Sherlock wonders how much the grey area might vary from person to person in the city.

Slowly, Sherlock rises from the shadows a few feet in front of Kate, stumbling a bit as his feet became independent of the ground again.]

So do they just have some sort of emporium around here where people with the best of intentions can buy military grade equipment?

[Being flippant about something other people took seriously was a decent method for extracting information, and Sherlock found it worked about four out of five times. He thinks this might be the margin of error, but he decides to try anyway.]

[And that worked about as well as he expected. Sherlock looks down briefly, making certain his feet were solidly on the ground. Being on a roof again doesn't sit entirely well with him, but focusing on Batwoman keeps him from experiencing any onsets of panic.]

My skills don't need to be enhanced by expensive tools. Is that how the pecking order is established here?

[It's a little of both, but Sherlock would just call it sating his curiosity. He sighs complacently at such a paranoid response.]

I heard sirens, and investigated. You happened to be at the other end. I thought I'd see how vigilantes operate in this universe.

[It wasn't as if Sherlock never heard of superheroes in fiction at home. He had a whole case surrounding comic books. But seeing those ideas used in real life-- it was all truly bizarre.]
