the dog days will never be over
WHO: Davesprite and Nill
WHERE: The Abandoned Church
WHEN: Sometime in January idk im sick dont ask questions
WARNINGS: Nope
SUMMARY: Nill got a dog for Christmas. Bonding is hard when you're half bird yourself.
FORMAT: Action spam
[The entire month of January had been crushingly depressing, from Davesprite's point of view. Jade and Dave were both gone now and he hadn't gotten to see them since his birthday because of his spat with John. Part of it made him want to make ammends, but most of it just made him increasingly bitter. Not that Davesprite would bring that up to anyone, but it was definitately an emotion he was dealing with.
It had been pushed aside, now that he and Nill had a new companion to worry about. He made a habit of disappearing into the rafters or out into the city whenever Nill had company over, having little desire to share his whereabouts with anyone who didn't already know. He worked better behind the scenes anyway. His time on the ship with Jade and John just proved that things should have stayed that way. But now with the dog, he had to have a little more presence to keep an eye on it. She already had multiple accidents, being a puppy, and he was rapidly getting tired of cleaning up after her.
So one day he had flown back with an armful of training books and guides to try and get the situation under control. After all, a dog was better than a cat -- he could make an effort to help.]

Since this is Nill's first pet, she isn't sure exactly how she's supposed to go about training it. But it's a good thing that Schnitzel seems pretty smart. She can already sit at least, but it's a good thing that all the floors in the church are stone. It makes cleanup a lot easier.
Her hair is piled all up on her head, an attempt to keep the dog from snapping at it playfully whenever Nill walks by her. It's easier to hide her wings, keeping them beneath the odd sweatshirt or two she's collected from various sources during her time in the City. She wants to at least teach her how to not jump on everyone before she risks having her wings out in the open. They make perfect targets, after all.
The blonde is in a handstand on the back of one of the pews, Schnitzel curled up on the seat beneath her. She's wearing jeans and one of those sweatshirts, toes curled as she concentrates on balancing without the advantage of her wings. It's difficult, but good practice, she thinks. Damian would tell her so, anyway. Hearing Dave, she slowly turns her head even as Schnitzel perks up and jumps off the pew to bound towards him, all wagging tail and happy puppy bark.]

If he's going to deal with the dog, then its not going to snap at his tail and wings if he can help it. Its hard not to love the puppy, even with how much of a pain in the ass she is sometimes.
He'll warm up to her a little more when she stops trying to slobber all over his shades, as well as when she stops trying to tug the spirograph off his neck. That is something she will have to learn very quickly.
Why he tries to wrestle with Schnitzel, he addresses Nill in her handstand.]
If you sneeze, you're so fucked.

By the time he addresses her, she's already managed to read the title of one of the books and deciphered that it's for training Schnitzel. Well, that's actually a really good idea. She'd been trying to use the Internet for help, but there's nothing quite like a good book. They would have been helped about a week ago, but better late than never.
Slowly, she turns on her hands to face him, sticking her tongue out at him before smiling. He was right, especially right now. Without her wings to flare and balance her if she started to tip, she'd be going down. But her hair is starting to come loose and it's going to become bothersome very quickly, so Nill slowly inches closer to the edge of the pew's back until she's almost out of holding space. She turns again so her back is to the aisle and in one fluid motion, lets her legs tip towards the stone floor, curling her body into a back bend until her feet almost touch down and she can let her upper body spring upwards to stand properly. She crouches, letting the two of them wrestle for the time being. But she does tilt her head back towards the books before giving an approving nod.]

Not bad. I'd give it a seven.
[He was only saying it to rib her of course, but at that moment, Schnitzel gives a particularly powerful thrash and dislodges his shades, forcing him to catch them and release her in the process.]
Woah--shit, this dog.

Once she's out of Davesprite's grasp, Nill more or less (and rather ungracefully) hurls herself at the dog, grabbing her before she can get too far. She doesn't hurt Schnitzel, of course, just gets her arms locked around her and pulls her into her lap. Puppy struggles ensue, but Nill manages to hold on, stroking Schnitzel's head in an attempt to get her to calm down. Her reward after a few seconds is a big lick on the cheek and a slightly settled dog.]
