Summary Callie Dick is catching up with a good friend.
Format w/e

Getting the address from Max earlier that day, Dick made sure that he didn't have any meetings right after lunch so he didn't feel rushed. He got to the hosts' table and gave a nod. "Reservation under Lord?"

The host looked down at their list, cheerfully responding and pointing Dick in the right direction. He made his way down and sure enough.. saw him at a table not quite across the room.

"Aren't you a sight for sore eyes." Dick smiled, getting to the table and pulling out his own seat. "Oh, and for the record. One downfall to being a guy? Gotta pull out my own chair now. All this time I thought chivalry was dead, but that's before I noticed how many doors were actually opened for me before." He was sure that there were more advantages to being a hot demon woman over being a hot demon man... but that was probably because he was still figuring it out.

When Cal -- Dick, rather -- made his appearance, Max still stood briefly to shake his hand and raise his eyebrow. At least he was prepared for the sight, somewhat, but it was still different hearing a voice and then putting a face to it.

Still, he smiled as he sat down again. "You'll get used to it. Maybe end up opening a few doors of your own," he said, smirking and passing the wine menu across the table. "Glad you could make it."
retconman: (you must be joking)

"You'd be surprised. Well... maybe. I'm not going to delve into your personal life," Max said, eyebrow still raised as he took a sip from his water, though he was still smirking. It was risky, reaching out to someone this early, but not any more so than not, Max felt. Callie had always been a good ally and resource, even a pretty good friend. She... he? was undoubtedly the best first stop for him to make.

He raised his other eyebrow. "Eight months? Incredible. For me it almost feels like just yesterday. Then again -- not much for me to go back to."

"Nothing bigger than normal. The last time I was home I had my neck snapped," Max said a little candidly, taking another sip of water as he grimaced. It wasn't true, but it was his story, and though he trusted Callie -- Dick -- with the truth probably it was simpler to make sure everything was on the same page.

More or less.

"Long story. I won't bore you with the gory details."
retconman: (absolutely not)

"Oh, I'm fine," Max said quickly, raising his eyebrows and forcing a smile. He shook his head and his hand in the same dismissive motion.

"It's the same as last time. Dead back home, can't do anything about it but thank my lucky stars my killer isn't around here anymore. Sticky situation, let me tell you. It's fine, though. Honestly--" He tilted his head slightly, shrugging one shoulder. "It just makes me appreciate what I have here all the more."

Sitting back in his chair, Max drummed his fingers on the table thoughtfully, giving the waiter his order and then giving Dick a smirk.

"Little bit of both. I had a few things here waiting for me, luckily enough, but I think I'm going to stay away from the superhero biz for the time being. If they come to me desperate, maybe I'll reconsider--" He shook his head, still smirking mildly. "But I think I need a break from the action."
retconman: because we are BEST. FRIENDS. (I named it after you)

"At least taking a break. It's a wake-up call enough in some ways... like the morning after once the hangover's passed," he said wryly. "Persistence never goes away, you just apply it to different things."
