I just, you know, wanted to talk... [ obviously nothing cagey in that. she picks up her tea and stirring it as she waits for it to cool a bit. ]

How have things been here, since you've taken over?

Busy. [A rueful admission, accompanied by a little hitch of a laugh.] I kind of feel like I've been running around in circles a lot, you know?

It's gotten a bit easier now that I have some regular help, but it's still keeping me really busy. I never really thought about how much stuff there is to do besides cooking, serving, and cleaning up. It's more complicated than I'd thought.

I'm sure it would have to be. The full implications of how much work is there never fully sinks in until it rests solely on your shoulders. But at least it isn't being carried alone, from the sound of it.

[ which is probably something she can use to segue, but, well... ] And all that help was been working out well for you, yes?

Haha, well, saying "all that help" is exaggerating a little. But Lancer's working as a server for me now, and Archer's agreed to share the kitchen work, so it is kind of a load off. I'm not really sure how Ned was managing everything by himself before I started working here.

[ she wrinkles her nose at the mention of archer, but her options are limited, if this one is even open, she'll deal. lancer she doesn't know by name, but she's probably recognized by now if he's on shift that day.

Yeah. [Minako nods her agreement a little reluctantly.] At least someone else to help with serving, even part-time... although, if it's someone who can do both, that would be even better.

I've been thinking about putting an ad up or something, but... [She lets that thought trail off, and sips her iced coffee.]

Alright, well. I don't know how else to put this tactfully, so I'm just going to come out and say it.

[ and she returns the slice of grilled cheese she'd been nibbling at to her plate, wipes at her hands with a napkin, and then sets them down on the table very primly, taking a deep breath before leveling minako with the most sincere look she can manage. ] ...I need a job, and, well, if you have an opening you're contemplating anyway, I would be happy to enter my name into your considerations.

If you'd find that to your advantage, of course.

[It's not quite surprise, but Minako does perk up visibly.]

That would be great! --Ah, that is... [Catching herself, she looks embarrassed for a moment.] I can't exactly offer a lot. But, if you need a job, it really seems like we can solve one another's problems.

I'd be happy to hire you if that's what you'd like.

[ kanaya lets out a sigh of relief, like she'd forgotten to breathe there for a moment. she kind of needs to do that while she's still human. ]

I think it might be for the best, given how things are at the moment. I can also help with bookkeeping, and am good with numbers, if...you need anything like that.

[And now Minako is a bit surprised, and probably just as relieved as Kanaya.]

That would be really great. I mean, it's not that I'm bad with math or anything, but - there's a lot to keep up with, especially with taxes and that sort of thing, and it's not something I've ever needed to know how to do before, so... if that's something you can help with, I could definitely use it.

Well, that's so often how it goes, isn't it? You learn a new task because necessity demands that the task is done, yet no one else is doing it.

[ it got her taking over the bills in her own household, and now keeping the books at the magazine. that's how she knows just how hopeless that one is. ] I'll certainly be up to helping.
