of those blackholes & revelations

WHO: All imPorts.
WHERE: Atropos.
WHEN: January 7th to January 14th.
WARNINGS: Death and destruction.
SUMMARY: Atropos has risen in the night, and the inevitable has come: with her jaws she shears away the City from Earth and swallows it whole.

But the City is not yet dead.
FORMAT: Whatever you please.

The formless mass of metal haunting above, hovering like a lunar tombstone, begins to take shape. Asteroids plummet into the cheeks, the eyes, carving out bone structure. Her features howl with fury, with triumph, as she stares down below, savoring her conquest. A cavity opens. Metal swoops to form jagged, angry shears. Her teeth are born.

She waits as the world rotates, its spin more wobbly than it used to be.

And then she leans down to feast, her bite vampiric. She takes the City and then some, and all that it encompasses, so that every single imPort is captured. She takes the time to drink in any stragglers, any imPorts elusive to the City's thrall.

She holds the City on her tongue as she draws back her fist to punch the world.

And then teeth close to the shuddering, glass shattering vibration of a cosmic laugh. The jaws close, and there is no light for about an hour -- until Atropos begins to siphon solar energy from the sun into her veins. She is dissatisfied with its dying tint, or perhaps she cannot stand the redness of color, so once she injects this energy into her her body (her most intimate domain), she turns it bright yellow again. The universe within her is illuminated.

The City is a floating chunk of broken skyscrapers and puckered asphalt streets. The trauma of consumption has wrecked the usual infrastructure: buildings are half collapses, or skeletal, vehicles are flipped and strewn across the layout. Whatever vegetation that is still clinging onto life has rejoiced under the return of normal sunlight.

You can breathe. It isn't too hot, or too cold -- it's unusually pleasant, in fact. The sunshine veins that light your world are not overwhelming. There is no blue sky to complement the atmosphere, and whatever water still in the City will be constrained to the bottled kind found in shops.

But there are other floating pieces of worlds, and they might have water. Or food.

If you live in the City, your possessions should still be in the City. While about 76% of the natives have fled the City (which had gotten the brunt of focus over the past week), there are still some natives who were too sick, too sentimental or too stubborn to leave.

You'll find that your powers work normally, though you can't teleport within Atropos. You probably wouldn't want to teleport outside of her, anyway.

She swallows, and the City gentle glides down a slick throat. Dust and particles create stunning visuals, like the aurora borealis, except in warmer colors. Light reflects so easily from solar veins and starstrewn flesh.

While you can breathe easily, gravity is fickle. Physics is often defied. Atropos was never one to play by the rules.

He doesn't know about that night, am I right?

[ He stops in his tracks, balling his fists and gritting his teeth. He's so much ugliness in his life, but HJ, a man who wears a mask and calls himself a hero, is supposed to be above what he had done that night. ]

He still doesn't know... about the monster you are.

[ For a moment, Hooded Justice's eyes narrowed, from the small slits cut in the hood, enough that the offense was there. ]

He knows enough.

[ Nelson knew well, what tactics Hooded Justice employed on the street. He hadn't changed over time. He'd dealt with criminals in the same way from the beginning, and always would. ]

You, however, are not welcome in my business.

If it's going to hurt him someday, then...!

[ Wherever this sudden surge of confidence came from, it's clear it might not have been in Gil to begin with. Too caught up in the moment, he fails to realize he is behaving uncharacteristically. ]
ropedin: (Why didn't anyone give me a seat)

[ And HJ? Well, he doesn't know the difference, but he didn't bother to get to know Gilbert well enough to know the difference between Gil from one mood to another.

He simply stared.
]

He is an adult, capable of his own decisions.

[ He didn't touch on the fact that Nelson may be hurt.

After all...
]

[ Something forces his body forward, stomping right up to HJ to put very little distance between them. His arm pulls back slowly, then with great force flies into the side of HJ's face.

It's between the seconds he finally realizes what he's (unintentionally) doing that he lets out a feeble gasp. ]

Uh...
ropedin: (Get off my arm sally)

[ He honestly didn't expect it. Gilbert seemed to be the kind of guy who could snap, but not without good reason. Like when Justice had needed to take care of him, interceding in his business.

He recoiled, but when he straightened, he was all height and muscle, everything in him ready to spring, like the coil, held together only just barely.
]

What -- ?

[ Was all he could do, before he was reacting, reaching out to grip him by the collar, attempting to lift him off the ground. ]
corviform: (stop sending me nyan cat remixes!!)

[personal profile] corviform 2014-01-22 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He doesn't react quickly enough and he's snatched up, his toes barely touching the ground. He struggles to no avail, raising his hands and trying to smooth over whatever the hell just happened. ]

W-Wait! Let me go!
ropedin: (With a face like this...)

[personal profile] ropedin 2014-01-28 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
[ HJ pulled him forward, his fist holding him tight, giving Gilbert a good look at his eyes. It was the one thing that HJ gave to the world, a pair of hard, brown eyes that never looked to have much humanity left in them. ]

After that? You're lucky I don't snap your neck.
corviform: (066)

[personal profile] corviform 2014-01-28 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ He continues to wrestle against HJ's grip, his cheeks flooding with colour again. It's difficult to breathe when he's caught in a powerful grip like that and struggling to speak at the same time. ]

I... didn't...!

[ He gasps for air. ]

It wasn't me!
ropedin: (Shocked!!)

[personal profile] ropedin 2014-01-29 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
[ HJ almost lets go. Was he stupid? Did he look stupid? The slack on his grip, and the angle, is enough to allow Gil air, even while he still looked down at him, the more than obvious confusion and distrust apparent on his face. ]

I am no idiot. Do you always call not you when you lose your faculties?
corviform: (162)

[personal profile] corviform 2014-01-29 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
[ He speaks through gritted teeth: ]

I didn't mean to do that! Honestly!

[ It feels almost like begging for his life and that's the last thing he wants to do before someone like Hooded Justice.

But this is starting to hurt. ]
ropedin: (With a face like this...)

[personal profile] ropedin 2014-01-29 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hooded Justice forgives little. He lets slide even less. ]

Then perhaps you would do well to remember your place.

[ He lets go of him, unceremoniously. Tempted to punch him, tempted to make sure there's another broken nose to match the one he'd broken before.

Very tempted.
]

You do not threaten, or attack me. I will not warn you again.
corviform: (069)

[personal profile] corviform 2014-01-29 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ Gil gasps for air, but is momentarily disrupted as he slips to the ground, falling rather hard on his side. He groans, pushing himself back up and rubbing the top of his shoulder where it aches the most.

He turns to look at HJ, glowering. ]

Haven't you heard a word I've said?

[ He didn't want to hit him, not really, but his body seemed to operate on its own. ]
ropedin: (Annoyed)

[personal profile] ropedin 2014-01-30 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
And should I believe your words, or your actions?

[ He stood over him, as if using his height and weight would remind Gil who was standing over him, looking down, the angle making it difficult to read his eyes.

Not that his tone of voice gave enough.
]

You cannot blame anyone but yourself for acting foolishly.
corviform: (228)

[personal profile] corviform 2014-01-30 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
[ He doesn't shrink back, but he doesn't step forward either. As humiliating as this all is, he's not about to risk any more injury when he needs to get a move on, find Sharon, Kenzi... everyone he cares about and figure a way out of here. ]

I've already told you I don't know what happened. [ As much as he hates this man, Nelson would never forgive him if he did something to him. Hurting Nelson is an act he'll do his best to avoid. ] If we're done here, I have more important things to do!
ropedin: (Seriously he looms a lot)

[personal profile] ropedin 2014-01-31 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Then do so.

[ He stands there, his arms crossing over his chest. Letting something dark slip in his voice, a threat. Where Gil worried about hurting Nelson through hurting HJ, he didn't offer the same courtesy toward him. ]

And do not forget. I will not suffer insult again.

[ He says nothing, keeping his lips pressed tightly together as he begins to jog away from HJ. He keeps an eye on him for several feet, as if he might be tailed, but instead with HJ standing there menacingly Gil looks away, finally refocusing his efforts and thoughts to finding Sharon. ]
