The comm was buzzing with panicked voices and a flurry of confusion. Eventually, Superman had to turn it off to focus. He flew through the city at a hurried, but focused pace, peering through buildings, searching for the man at the bottom of the sudden and numerous killings.

He rose, now flying over the rooftops, squinting. He spotted a figure--not the man he was after, but--

Swooping low, he called out.

"Batman!"

Batman threw his bolas at the creature's neck and discharged them immediately. The electricity didn't seem to affect it very much, but it gave him enough time to reach his sharpest batarang. He started cutting the tentacles holding him, hoping Superman would be able to keep Carnage busy while he was escaping.

Each time a tendril was cut he would begin to generate a new one, eventually tiring of Batman and moving on to something else. With a snarl, Carnage produced a barrage of blades from the shifting symbiote's skin and aimed them toward Batman, all the while tightening his grip on Superman.

AHAHAHAH I'M LAME

Batman had received the blades in his right hip. Thankfully, his costume was heavily armored and they hadn't done too much damage. He removed them quickly, wincing in pain, and put them on the ground. He'd have to check them later to make sure they weren't poisonous.

He got up and hurried to the edge of the roof. Carnage didn't seem to be injured very much by the fall. That was bad. Batman fumbled through his arsenal, wondering what might possibly hurt him.

Being tossed off the roof and landing on hard cement wasn't much of a dilemma for Carnage, who merely let his tendrils cushion the blow as he produced two blades from the symbiote, much larger in size than the ones used on the Bat-freak, and hurled them straight toward Superman.

Seeing Superman fall, Batman quickly settled for his most destructive weapon and threw all of his five thermate grenades at Carnage. He didn't wait to see the result and jumped off the roof. The landing was brutal, but he ignored the pain and ran to Superman's side.

He kneeled down and gave a look at the wound. The blood was already spilling at a disturbing speed.

"Aren't you supposed to be invulnerable?" he shouted with anger and worry.

He got back on his feet and clenched his fist, ready to face Carnage - even if the odds were far from favoring him.

The symbiote definitely did not like the heat. Recoiling with a piercing screech from the explosion, the tentacles retracted back into his body in a quick, disturbing fashion - he backed up, on all fours, like an animal.

And yet there was amusement. He'd just impaled the man of steel. Who'd a thunk it. Carnage continued to back away, symbiotic skin bubbling in anger toward the heat. He figured he'd done enough for now, and would leave to terrorize the rest of the city, merely wait for the response to this little escapade. How fun that would be.

Batman lowered himself and put his hand on Superman's.

"Don't remove it. You'll only make it worse."

He examined the wound more closely. Bad. Real bad.

"I can't take care of it here. Can you make it to the Batmobile?"

Batman hesitated. He'd seen that before - empty eyes, blood on his hands, a storm raging. He took off his glove and grabbed Superman's wrist, searching for a pulse.

Nothing.
