Remember how I found you there

WHO: Catwoman, Delirium, & Lucifer
WHERE: Somewhere. In the City.
WHEN: Afternoon of March 30th, prior to the aquarium thing
WARNINGS: Pie
FORMAT: quickpara

After the whole mess at the ball the previous night, Selina needed to get out for a while. Go for a walk. Be a normal person in a normal place.

Hopefully not run into Godzilla.

It was a decent day out. Cool and windy, but you could feel the impending spring. Or at least Selina could, used to seasonal flavors of cities as she was.

She had no particular destination in mind, simply wandering the streets she'd come to know in the past five months at whim. She kept a sharp eye on her surroundings -- she didn't know how not to at this point -- but not seeking. Simply observing.

Street kids were one of the city elements that Selina always noticed. She'd been one herself in another life. But the thin frame and brilliant red hair of one girl she passed brought her to a halt. At first she thought it was Holly, younger and still lost. But the resemblance was only superficial.

Still. There was something about her.

Selina paused. "Are you all right?" she asked the girl, not entirely sure why.

Delirium was lost. Except that she was used to being lost so it really shouldn't have mattered, but now she was lost lost lost. She didn't know where her brothers and sisters were, couldn't feel the way to her realm. She had searched and searched and searched for a labyrinth and a place of desire and a place of dreams, but simply couldn't find one that led her back to her siblings.

So she had curled up in the doorway of some building and merely sat, letting her edges fade slowly until she could feel herself slipping and then-

Delirium turned the full force of her gaze on the woman. "What?"

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Delirium stared at her bare feet for a minute then back at the lady, eyes flickering about. Tracking the movements of light and air behind the woman.

"Um..." she began, then quieted a little. Delirium knew the woman (she knew lots of people, not as many as her sister, but she still knew lots of people), but the name didn't come readily. She should ask, but the words changed direction half way through and instead came out as "I got misplaced."

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Delirium followed the woman's gesture with her eyes and then looked for awhile at the building. Oh so she had gone in a circle then. That was comforting at least. Circles were nice.

"My family isn't here," she said, "And I can't find the right way to get back home. But Lucifer is here. And Tank Girl knows who I am too. There were others who knew who I was but some of them said they didn't know."

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Delirium wasn't sure what that had to do with anything... She also wanted to know what the word for a man who only walked under bridges and caught fish from the wings of planes and used them to make words was called, but the question wasn't forming properly on her tongue so instead she nodded and said "Yes."

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Delirium stared at the hand offered to her for a minute before taking it. She was starting to like this lady. She was a little like her big sister... The thought made her smile and the words come out a little easier.

"What kind of pies?" she asked, taking the lady's hand and standing up on spindly legs, "Are they the kind with rats in them? Those don't taste very good, but the ones with the little baby berries in them are very very good."

It kinda is. :B

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Hello, Selina," she said, padding along next to the woman-ah, Selina- and keeping a hold of her hand, "Do they have cherry? I like cherries, I ate some once when I was looking for my brother with Dream and the cherry stones told me that when I grow up I would be a kangaroo."

She thought for a moment, before asking, "Do you think Tank Girl will know how to grow up to be a good kangaroo?"

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Can I have cherry then?" Delirium asked as she climbed up onto the stool, immediately starting to spin a bit on the stool. She was starting to feel much more comfortable around Selina and this almost as if by default seemed to open up her gestures.

"Selina, have you ever been on an aeroplane?" she asked, settling down long enough to draw patterns on the top of the counter with the tip of her finger. If she stared enough she could see swirls and dips and dives.

Delirium's thought process defies short para... ><;

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Delirium kicked her feet a little as she answered, laying her head down on the counter to look at Selina.

"Uh-huh. I've been on them lots of times," she began, trying to remember that there was a point to what she was saying, "I like them because when you go way up in the clouds everything looks so magical and special and the clouds look so pretty like a magical place where everything is okay and sometimes I just want to go walking through them so I can be in that place..." A pause. She was getting off track, what was the track again? "But I've been in the clouds and all it is is wet and could and empty... But aeroplanes are nice because they're in-between places..."

Oh there it was, the point. "This place is an in-between place too," Delirium finished, pleased she had been able to make the point she was searching for. She hadn't even noticed Selina had asked for her name.

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Delirium answered promptly and matter of fact, "To Death. That's where everything goes sooner or later."

She dug into the pie like a 5 year old on a mission and was soon licking the sticky cherry filling off of her fingers.

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Delirium put the offered spoon to use, although it didn't do much good to prevent the red gunk from smearing across her lower face and cover her fingers.

"I don't know," Delirium said, frowning and beginning to turn in on herself, "Which is bad, I should know, I should know, even though I'm not Destiny in his garden with his big book. I know things that people don't think I know, but just because I can't say them doesn't mean I don't know them. But I can't find any of the right roads or the right places to look and I can't find my realm from here..."

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Delirium finished her pie before she answered, licking the last of the red goop of the spoon.

"I know lots of things!" she said, suddenly brightening again, "The name for the jelly in people's eye is called Vitreous Humor and how to call up little glowy worms and write things on walls so that I won't forget words!" Delirium turned to Selena going absolutely still and her blue-green gaze intense, "I know the paths outside of Destiny's garden."

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
"No thank you, I'm done now," Delirium said, kicking her feet, the previous intensity gone as if it had never been there. She liked the cherry pie, although it didn't have the stones that talked to her, but that was all right.

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Lucifer Morningstar said he was going to come and get me and asked me if I would mind staying at his place and I said I was going to stay in an alley I found that when you look at the broken glass on the ground the right way you could see through to the other side of the world, but staying with him sounded nicer so that's what I'm going to do," Delirium said, still kicking her feet absently.

If she looked closely at her big toe on her right foot, she could see that it was starting to squirm a little, like a salmon fry hatching from it's egg.

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh-huh," Delirium nodded, "He never minded me, but he fought with my brother before he closed down Hell and went to play the piano. He went to my brother's funeral and said I was me there which I think meant I said the right things, but I don't know because I haven't gotten there yet."

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
"I know him, of course!" she said cheerfully.

Delirium smiled widely at Selina, "That would be nice! I can show you my fishies!" By now her entire right foot had turned into a mass of shimmering fish, slowly breaking away and swimming about the legs of the stool and dodging the movement of Delirium still kicking her legs.

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
The fish swirled around Delirium, humming softly. "Yes, sometimes," she said, tipping her head to the side, "Sometimes I don't notice it and then it takes me a week to put myself back together."

[ooc: I'd say so.]

He -- felt wasn't the proper term Lucifer would ever use for how any of the Endless simply seemed to exist in the peripheral of Creation, but here, as he stepped out from the portal that he brought him to her, it seemed to be the only word that made any sense.

"Delirium," he called out as he stepped from the portal he had made and onto the street, the sound of his voice much like static in the air, crackling at its edges. "I suggest you stop that before someone else takes notice."

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Delirium leaned to the side, nearly falling off the stool in the process of putting her foot back together, and greeted Lucifer, "Hello. You don't think they would like the fishies?"

A puzzled look went to Selian. "Of course. Unless I have a bad day or I get lost, but usually I can find my way back, so it will all be all right."

[identity profile] meaculpable.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
The Morningstar shook his head, failing to spare even a cursory glance at whomever it was that was talking to Delirium.

"No, I do not."

He motioned over to the glowing, iridescent door.

"Come along now, Delirium."

Things fell in order like they do every know and then in Delirium's mind and the smile she gave Selina was focused and very old. She leaned forward and Selina a light kiss on the cheek. "Okay. When you remember me again, we can go and play in the puddles and sing songs together," she said.

She hopped down off of her stool, dancing a bit towards the glowing doorway. "Do you ever feel like Dorothy in that one movie?"

OH SNAP! He is a bit, isn't he?

[identity profile] watsthename.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Delirium brightened, "Really? I always liked the Scarecrow, he was my favorite!"
