"You are visibly absent from this apartment."

"Ah." Remus didn't need to have it repeated, adjusting his bag over his shoulder with one hand, and the communicator with the other. "So it seems I am. I suppose I should remedy that."

He didn't wait for Miles to reply, simply cutting the connection to put the communicator back into his bag before he Disapparated. A moment later - and with a harsh crack of magic to signal his arrival - he was standing in the middle of the sitting room in Miles' apartment. This was familiar and far more welcoming than his earlier adventures and he set his bag down on the floor, looking far less apologetic than he felt he ought to.

"I suppose saying that I was home would be a bit redundant, yes?" he asked. "Where's Ruka?"

Even after so long, he had not gotten used to the abrupt noise that meant Remus had either entered or left a room; he still looked startled when the other man was relieving himself of his bag. Miles Edgeworth demanded much of himself, however, one of the least of which was composure--it was not long before he forced himself to regain it, and seemed at ease once more.

"It would," he agreed, silently pleased. "In her bedroom, I believe. No doubt she's heard you."

No doubt, indeed. It was only a moment before Ruka finagled her way to the door, trying not to laugh as she gave a few quiet 'shhs' to her new friend. She kept one hand on his shoulders as she opened the door, trying to keep him from bolting across the apartment.

Pess was a very large dog, after all.

They were both in the living room when she entered, a bright smile on her face. "Uncle Remus!"

She was very, very glad to see him.

Edgeworth could not tell from Remus' voice whether or not his assessment of the new living conditions was a pleased one; he interjected in the hopes of fending off any potential upset.

"It was a stray, and I had thought it an excellent companion and protector for her," he stated, making it quite clear that he had no intent of sending the creature away.

That it looked very much like the Pess from his homeworld was not, naturally, mentioned as a deciding factor in the least.

"He's very nice, too," Ruka added, giving Pess an affectionate scratch behind the ears. Ruka did not have any fear that Remus would disapprove of the dog; it seemed unreasonable to her that anyone would dislike a dog this affectionate.

"You should say hello to Uncle Remus," she said, her voice pitched the same as always. She didn't even bother with physical cues; Pess trotted towards Remus obligingly.

Ruka had ridden unicorns and dealt with uncooperative dragons; befriending a dog was almost simple by comparison.
