we live or endure

WHO: Remus, Soldier Blue
WHERE: Ye olde Moonybase
WHEN: 6/24, late afternoon
WARNINGS: Old people talking about things
FORMAT: No

Blue had struggled with the growing frustration of his own limitations for a long time, but at that moment, it felt more palpable than ever. How much had happened and how many people he knew were enduring troubles? All he could do is hear about it from afar. Kiden, Remus...And even though others had taken steps to help...

He pressed his hand on the window he stood before in the living area and his attention was drawn away from the summer scenery to the tired, red-eyed face reflected therein. He didn't look three centuries old, but he felt it. As accommodating as Jomy and his new friends in that house were, when he was alone like this he couldn't help but feel that gnawing sense of dread.

What can I do for them? Will I only be the burden?

He wasn't fully healed, but he could feel the magic in his own body working to repair what Bakura hadn't been able to heal. The damage to his eye had been unrepairable however, and he'd lost his vision, the iris and cornea covered with a film of white. No, he hadn't taken it very well, the second time his body had been damaged permanently and it hadn't even been a spell.

Muggle technology.

As soon as he'd been able to get himself out of the bed, the burn scars still visible and raw as he'd dressed to cover them. He felt almost normal if not for the mild shaking and pain that lanced through him as he Apparated back to the house. He needed to be away from Miles' apartment for a few hours at least and it was here he felt safest.

The crack of magic came from his lack of concentration and Remus had a moment to be grateful that he hadn't managed to splinch himself. It would have only added insult to injury.

Leaning against the door frame, he saw Blue in the sitting room, and instantly felt himself relax. Blue wouldn't make some attempt to help him stand or cross the room. Remus was used to being self reliant and for at least a little while, he didn't intend to ask or accept help unless absolutely necessary.

"I see not much has changed while I was out," he said, as if he had only been gone a few days instead of a week.

"It was unnecessary," he returned, easily into the room with the same grace - or lack thereof - that he always possessed. "My injuries would have healed quite well if I hadn't insisted upon putting extra protection upon the library and a few other places. Hopefully, it will prevent another attack from happening. Once I've healed completely, I'll strengthen the protection here as well."

This house was the most magically protected in the city. Only those given the address would be able to access it.

"But thank you," he returned the smile and the warm words as he sat down.

He allowed himself to rest slightly, knowing he'd need his energy later as he waited impatiently for his body to catch up with itself and heal. Normally it was only a few days, but it had been nearly a week now and he was beginning to get impatient, his skin itching with the lack of movement. As tired as Apparting here made him feel, he had wanted to, and it was well worth the trip to see a good friend.

"Mine comes from making it far too much," he answered, looking amused. "I'd like a cup since you're offering though."

Taking the cup, he smiled gratefully before he took a sip.

"It's good. There's no need to say otherwise," he said as he lowered the cup, looking a bit guilty at having his absence so quickly pointed out. "There's been very little time between work and assisting Miles with Ruka. My recent injuries hadn't helped much either. I hope every thing has been all right here?"

"That's good at least," Remus reminded himself to try and find some time to speak to Felicia as he lightly turned the cup in his hands, watching the liquid move with it before realizing what he wanted to ask.

"Has Sirius come back or has he found somewhere else to stay?"
