Boy you better do it soon, no time will be better! [Closed]

WHO: Skyfire and Mary
WHERE: Sky's apartment.
WHEN: Current time
SUMMARY: Skyfire and Mary watch cartoon kids movies... Rot your teeth out cute is a go. hurrrrr.
FORMAT: Paragraph.

It's kind of... awkward, even as the movie is starting. Skyfire has strategically placed the bowl of popcorn between then, hands folded neatly in his lap. They'd opted to watch the film called 'Ferngully'. An environmental preservation story, from his understanding. Something he figured they'd both enjoy.

The room is dark save for the screen of the television.

In retrospect, he sort of regrets turning the lights off. His eyes glow a soft blue, and it's hard to hide. Like most of the other Cybertronians in the city. He is without his usual red visor to hide it, and his glasses do little but magnify the gentle glow.

He winces a nervous smile at Mary.

Well this is. Nice.

Mary settled comfortably into the couch, pleased as punch to be here with Skyfire, watching a movie that she absolutely adored. It was cozy, really. She beams back at Skyfire, wondering why on earth he seemed so nervous. She hoped it wasn't because of something that she had done.

Odd, really, that his eyes glowed. She guessed it was because he wasn't human, but it reminded her of B.F. late at night.

"Gosh, I really love this movie!" Mary said as the opening credits began to roll.

"They're not humans, they're fairies," she replies. "They're supposed to be... uhm... I guess part of the spirit of the rainforest? I guess? That's never explained. They're just fairies." She shrugs helplessly.

"I know it's paint," Mary said suddenly, as the next scene came up. "But when I was little, I always thought she stuck her hand in blood. It really bothered me!"

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm, I guess," Mary frowned. "But... there's lots like that in movies, I think. I mean, in Old Yeller? That still makes me cry and cry!"

The movie continued, and suddenly Mary made a face. "Ewww, I hated this lizard as a kid! This part! Ew, where he eats the snail! And those weird... swamp bubble creatures? What are they anyway?"

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
"We'll watch it sometime, then!" Mary replied. "And maybe you can now. I'm not sure how it all works. You watch movies like that because they're good. It'll make the happy movies seem even happier!"

As the slime creature Hexas came on screen, Mary visibly recoiled, pulling her knees up to her chest. "Oooooh, he scares me so much!"

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I know it's just a movie," she replied, leaning into his touch. "But I just get really into them! Its like... I'm there!"

The scene changed and she relaxed again, but didn't shift away from her spot, not even thinking about it.

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Really? Who?" Mary asked. "I always wondered why he hung out with those others, because they seemed... well... I'm not sure, maybe he was just being nice."

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Gosh," Mary said. "If he's not nice to you, maybe you should avoid him."

The conversation died as they resumed watching the movie. When the duo on-screen entered the caves, Mary spoke up again. "You know, I never got how they just bounced off the water. I mean, it's not like they're flying, they're just... hopping."

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh. Well, some people are bad with expressing their emotions."

She leaned forward, enjoying the romance scene. But... for whatever reason, it wasn't grabbing her the way it had when she was a child. "I don't think so. I think it was just supposed to be "magic". They use that for a lot of stuff in this movie."

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
She giggled. To someone like Skyfire, she supposed that "magic" really didn't make much sense. Now that she really thought about it, it didn't make much sense to her, either.

"Suspend your disbelief!" she said instead. "Sometimes in movies, you just accept things for as they are. Just say "magic" and go with it. I mean, my powers are magic, too."

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, gosh, of course there are," Mary giggled. "Magic doesn't really make things grow. That's silly, you just kind of... go with it, sorry!"

The movie continued in its rather meandering way, and when Hexus made his secondary appearance, Mary couldn't help but gasp and wince again. He was scary! He was still scary! She used to hide under a blanket when this part happened. At least she wasn't doing that.

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Mary squeezed his hand fervently, holding onto it like a lifeline. She was such a baby about this sort of thing, but he was a skeleton! Made out of slime and pollution that breathed fire. She read her Bible, and she always imagined this was what the Devil looked like.

She was half-tempted to screw her eyes shut and ask Skyfire to tell her when it was over, but then she really would seem like a total wimp. Besides, the fairies won in the end, and it was just a movie.

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Personification, really," Mary corrected absently. "He's a human skeleton. Bones are all that's left of people after decay, so it's like... the ultimate symbol of death."

She gave a little half-hearted shrug and turned to look up at him. "I'm not even sure what would be a good parallel for you. And as far as the environment is concerned, I think... there should be a balance. Yes, it's bad to pollute and chop down the forests, but you also have to do some of that to make sure people can live too, right?"

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Uhm.... then... I guess, think of it like just pieces of a Mech's shell? Moving around and doing things that they normally just can't do. Like breathe fire."

She patted his hand comfortingly. "Don't worry about it, it's just a movie, after all. And... well, kind of a silly one, at that. Why did it seem so much better when I was little?"

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
She giggled. "It's pretty impossible for a skeleton to be breathing fire, too, but that doesn't make it any less scary. But I'm really glad you liked it!"

She moved to stretch the kinks out of her back before continuing. "Oh, gosh, I think you'd get that in any profession, science or no! I mean, wouldn't treating your animals badly like the do in the movie mess up your variables? I'm not that good in science, but I think I know that much, at least!"

ITS TOTALLY OK I WAS ON HIATUS ANYWAY

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-08-07 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, gosh, most movies are like that, especially cartoons. Part of the fun is that they take you to a place you've never been before! And with cartoons, you get a visual of creatures and people that don't necessarily exist in the real world. I mean, most animals don't talk, but in stories it happens all the time! For instance, there are several books and movies about animals that wear clothes and live in buildings just like people. There's another movie about toys that come to life when their owner leaves the room! Part of the fun is that it isn't something in real life. Didn't you ever play pretend?" She smiled warmly up at him.

"And we can do whatever you'd like! If you want to watch another movie, I'd love that."
