you're the saddest bunch i've ever met, but you can bet before we're through

WHO: Kogenta and Bakura.
WHERE: Around the City, trying to help the wounded thanks to the Sins.
WHEN: August 3rd, midday-ish.

SUMMARY: Kogenta manhandles Bakura into coming with him to try and help around the City.

[Kogenta is glad to get out of the house to try and do something about the craziness. He would prefer that it be straight fighting, but this seems to be as good as it'll get.

Bakura's words are still on top of his mind, though. The kid reminds him of Riku. Wasn't it Riku whose ultimate purpose became fighting for the smiles of the people he cared about? It's definitely helping his demeanor towards Bakura, but it also makes him want the kid to grow half a spine. His doing the fighting, and Bakura supporting him - it smacks strongly of the bond he's used to, but he knows it's useless without the Drive, the implement of the contract. Or so he's decided. Kogenta's too set in the old rules to consider alternatives.

Either way, he shows up ready to work, stepping outside the MAC to wait for Bakura.]

[[He should have had someone walk with him, Bakura reflected belatedly as he hurried through the streets. But he was going to meet someone, it was fine, right? He was avoiding the crowds and the hot spots (and had taken the long way around the park, not wanting to even risk going near that tangle), and he had his dice with him, so even if something happened, he could shield and run, right?

He still was very relived when he got in sight of the MAC, spotting the vaguely familiar figure waiting out front. He waved, hurrying the last of the way]] Sorry I took so long! Had to go around the park! [[smiles]]

[Kogenta's head jerked up to look at the other, at the familiar voice. He gives a gruff nod of recognition.]

Let's go, then. [Businesslike, Kogenta turns with a scuff of his sandals.]

The big messes of the violent ones are probably too much for just you to handle healing. We'd get through with one and another would attack us.

[[Bakura gave a small nod, following, trying to calm the flutter of nerves inside of him. He was more prepared this time. He had someone who would be helping him. it wouldn't end like it did the last day.]] So... we need to find a smaller group.. right? [[he asked timidly, rolling his dice in his palm.]]

[Kogenta, meanwhile, is the picture of 'knowing what he's going to do', despite the fact he's playing entirely by ear. He has enough experience to know how to deal with mobs of enemies all at once, yes, but not when they're mostly benign - just possessed. He's never seen demonic influence on this scale before.]

Right, that's the plan. How many can you handle? Do you know your limits?

[[Bakura hesitates a moment.]] U--un. With healing, anyway. Healing doesn't take too much energy. I lost count of how many I took care of after Godzilla... [[says with a small, sheepish laugh]] Shielding takes a lot more... So as long as I don't have to shield, I should be fine with whatever I need to heal.

[[he fidgets with his dice again.]]

You should figure out how many tonight then. If you overestimate and collapse while you're healing someone, you won't be able to help them even nonmagically.

Shielding, too? [He notes this. It's a useful ability: he used to possess a hissatsu for the purpose himself.] You shouldn't need to. I'll take any blows for you.

[[gives a small nod]] I can tell when I start getting low. When I start casting from HP, I can feel it.

[[his eyes widen slightly and Kogenta's last statement. No one had ever... He gave a small smile, nodding] Thank you...

Aah! I can also do a buff, so you'll move faster and have better defense, if that would help!

[he raises an eyebrow, then flushes a little at the thanks. He's not used to being thanked even now, and waves a dismissive hand.] It's nothing. I'm used to it, so there's no reason for you to have to deal with it when you aren't a good fighter.

[A blank look at the terms.] HP... buff... if it'll make me faster, whatever it is, then do it! This human body is so slow.

Aah, HP as in Hit points... [[says sheepishly]] it's like life force. Normally magic comes from MP, which is magic points which is magical energy... [[rubs the back of his neck a little]]

[[nods, taking a deep breath, closing his eyes and concentrating. With a small nod, he opened his eyes, tossing his dice into the air]] Speed up!

[[There's a brief glow of white energy and a whiff of a cool spring breeze around Kogenta before the glow merges into him, enhancing his reflexes and agility]]

[He tries to process that, shaking his head.] So... MP is like your chi, then.

[Kogenta manages to stay still and let Bakura work his magic on him, testing a punch or two afterward, then grinning in satisfaction.] Useful. That's a good power.

[He resumes walking, motioning to the other to follow.]

Aah, un! That's a good way of putting it, yes! [[smiles as he quickly snatches up his dice again and starts following, looking almost shy at the praise.

He pauses, hearing the sounds of screeching up ahead. A pair of women are having it out in the middle of the street, pulling hair, clawing and scratching.

He grimaced, hand tightening around his dice.]]

[Kogenta made a face as well, letting out a huff of breath at the sight. Humans consumed in their own envy. He often made blustering comments about disliking humans as a race, but he didn't think they were bad at heart. Quite the opposite. Shikigami were just there to keep them on the right track.

He advanced on the ladies fearlessly. It's a matter of breaking them apart, separating them to work with one at a time.]

Stay back now. [he barked the words back at Bakura, throwing himself at the pair and trying to get in between them. He doesn't waste any time.]

[[nods, clutching his dice and waiting for the right moment, watching the fight anxiously.]]

[one of the women screeches at him for interrupting, lashing out with a hand and smacking him right in the face. Kogenta grunts in pain as the pair try to get at each other even with him in the way, their crazed fanaticism giving him a hard time of it.

Eventually, he cuffs one on the forehead hard enough to get her to slump over in a faint, and dispatches the other with far more ease, then returns to Bakura's side looking much more battered than he had expected to be.]

There. You're free to heal them, but I'll need to knock them out again if that doesn't stop them from fighting...

[[nods]] Hopefully it will.. [[he fretted, moving over to kneel down next to the pair. After looking them over a moment, he nodded to himself. The blond one first, she looked as if she was the worst off...

Taking a deep breath he called the spell, tossing the dice. The moment they hit the ground, he reached for them again, casting again on the brunette.

He looked over at Kogenta a moment before casting once more, taking care of his wounds as well before getting to his feet and dusting off his knees]] I tried focusing on the cause of the problem as well as the injuries... hopefully it will help.

[Kogenta peered at the pair. He had been worried that the healing spell would also wake them up, healing the KO, so to speak. It looked like he needn't have worried for now, though.

His own wounds seal up, and he jerks his head to look at Bakura in surprise.] You didn't need to do that. I've fought with way worse injuries than that, it was nothing. [Only 20% his usual egotism, there, in the most grand scheme of things he had been fine.]

So. [he crosses his arms, surveying the other] Feel like you helped better that way?

Aah, sorry. [[fidgets a little, pocketing his dice and rubbing the back of his neck a little]] It didn't take that much energy since it wasn't too bad...

[[he looks over at the pair a moment before nodding]] Un. Thank you. [[says with a soft smile]] Shall we look for others?

Save it for the people who need it though! [he scolds him, jabbing a finger at the other and stalking off.]

Right. Let's go see if anyone else is around. [And... leave the ladies on the street. Okay, Kogenta.]

[[winces a little, looking down]] Sorry... [[apologizes softly. He looks over his shoulder at the pair on the ground before following, properly chastised. He was always messing up, wasn't he?]

[he stops short at that, pausing and then looming over Bakura.] Look here! What's with that, always apologizing for everything and sounding sorry for yourself. You said you wanted to get into the fight, right? Do something other than stand on the sidelines? That sort of attitude won't work there.

[[startles, moving back a little]] S--sorry! [[stammers in apology almost on reflex]] I-- I didn't mean...

See, you apologized again. [he pulls a face] Show some determination. You're fighting with me, aren't you? [he jabs his thumb at himself] You said you wanted to defend your friends in a louder voice. Let's hear you do it again!

[[gives a small, timid nod. It was hard to show determination when he was being yelled at. Especially since he often got yelled at for saying something he shouldn't...

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, almost unconsciously reaching for his dice to help reassure himself. Dispute his efforts, his voice isn't very strong]] I want to protect everyone...

[Kogenta rears back, crossing his arms. Nevertheless, he looks pleased with the effort Bakura's making.] C'mon! Louder! [he urges him to do so, but it's more of an encouraging voice. Kogenta himself appears to be backlit strangely, glowing from within.] Yell it so everyone can hear!

[[Bakura takes a deep breath, hand clutching his dice tightly as he thought of Monster World, when he had given everything... That feeling...]]

I want to protect everyone! [[near shouts, face burning slightly.]]
