Flying! [closed, complete]
WHO: Alastair and Bakura. AGAIN. Yes.
WHERE: anywhere and everywhere
WHEN: Saturday afternoon, 10/17
WARNINGS: none
SUMMARY: Alastair found out he could fly, during the powerswap, and now he's going to go do something utterly useful with it - take a friend for a ride!
FORMAT: who am I kidding, paragraph.
The test-run with Kyosuke late at night was leading to nothing but mischief. Alastair had discovered the far more interesting facets of the power he had been granted for the past week, finally, and used his time off from StarkTech to completely abuse them. Oh, sure, he had also cleaned up the debris from blowing a hole in his wall and moved all his possessions to a new room in the motel, but then there had been some fun flying maneuvers with Kiryu and a full day of just taking advantage of the ability to fly. He had discovered a few things, though: October winds were cold, necessitating all of his motorcycle gear, and people in a city full of superheroes still looked at you funny if you dropped out of the sky and landed next to them.
Also, landing was hard. Good thing his biker boots were solid.
With a full weekend of nothing to do stretching before him, Alastair put in a call to Bakura to ask him if he wanted to go do something fun. He hinted just enough to make sure his friend dressed warmly, because he still wanted to see that look on his face when he found out just what they were going to do. Cinching up his coat tight, he took off from the motel's roof and flew - god, yes, flew - across town to Waterford Place to pick Bakura up. Literally.

"...ah. Hey!" he greeted his friend brightly.

"Yep! Look what I learned how to do!" he crowed. "What do you think, you want to go flying?"
I do not have an icon gleeeee enough.
XD
He held out his arms as if for a big hug. "I'll make sure you stay safe, too. I'm still getting the hang of it so I won't do anything crazy this time."

It was just... Alastair-kun.
His blush deepened a little more as he moved in closer, putting his arms around his friend. "Like-- like this?"

Jumping off things of some small height was the easiest way to get in the air, but Alastair had figured out that he could probably do it from the ground as well. The "aura" Kon spoke to him about was something he could sort-of sense, sometimes, if he concentrated. He breathed deeply to calm himself and focused, even blocking out the sounds of the street, and then jumping upwards...
...and taking Bakura with him as he continued to climb, albeit not at a rocket speed.

It took a minute or two to get used to the added weight and drag, but Alastair's piloting instincts helped him find balance, at which point he consciously increased speed just a bit. It was like joyriding on his bike - there was no destination in mind, just the thrill of being up there, being something other than normal, and having the wind rushing in his face.
"...you all right?" he yelled above the wind after a bit, to make sure his passenger was handling it.

He wasn't up for trying any tricks, not with a passenger, but Alastair weaved a little, choosing a lazy path between taller buildings and taking a pass over Central Park at a high enough altitude that people wouldn't see unless they were looking directly up at them. "Anywhere you want to fly past?"

He smiled to himself, remembering Bakura's long-ago confession. Of course he was glad to have Yuugi back. No surprise, there.

He banked the other way and shifted arms, rolling Bakura's weight carefully. Definitely getting the hang of this.
So much forshadowing for his swap :D
perfect!
He descended to a lower altitude and flew in among the downtown buildings, deciding in a split second that it would be hilarious to buzz the City's Times Square. There was only so long he could fly carrying someone, because he wasn't strong either, but Alastair was determined to make the most of it before he got tired and had to set down.
It's like every time he says how lucky he is that he didn't get zapped.. :D
He clung tightly as they zoomed by it, grinning at the sights. "Aaah, this is so cool!"
yeah, really - you're gonna jinx it!
And they really didn't. One would think by now a couple of guys in normal clothes (and one very full coat) wouldn't attract attention, if there was a guy in yellow and red armor flying around all the time.
He really should know better. ;)
