Remus had been to enough Christmas parties in his lifetime to know when one would end disastrously, including those that had been specifically dated to avoided interfering with other Christmas plans that the guests might have. This was one of them. But his tolerance had kept him quiet, the happy act of cleaning and decorating taken to as easily as any other task he did.

The twins had also been enlisted to help, given the important task of stringing a length of bright red ribbon and pine up the staircase to the second floor. The soft white lights that followed were magic. In fact, none of the lights, save for whatever lamps or overhead lights that Miles insisted upon, were run by electricity, and many were candles, kept only from setting anything ablaze by a flame-freezing charm.

By the time the morning of the party rolled around, the house looked as if it had been pulled straight out of a Christmas card, Remus borrowing from what he remembered of Christmases as Hogwarts and the Burrow, including a single bit of mistletoe in the entry. The snow helped, piling nicely (if in an oddly organized fashion) outside thanks to a little help from Miles, adding to the image; if nothing else, Remus was happy with it, the certainty that he would wind up having to transfigure another person into some sort of object nagging at the back of his mind.

Tin whistles, toy rocking horses, and sprigs of mistletoe were likely going to be very common later in the evening, he mused, tapping his wand rhythmically against the palm of his hand in thought as he checked everything over once more, walking through the sitting and dining rooms and out into the backyard where the tree house had been built out of ice and wood into the tree there. The floating green structures that Kyle Rayner had promised to provide were still missing, but they would be there soon enough.

He pocketed his wand and walked back into the house, shaking free the snow from his boots, and glancing at the clock. People who had offered their assistance had been asked to come early, which meant that the kitchen was soon going to turn into a madhouse, the extra stove only offering so much help. It also meant he had best make tea before he was banned from the room.

[you cannot escape. even if Blue has a hard time pinpointing his friends in this mental din, moving about he finds him and drifts over. focusing on Koltira, that discomfort becomes more prominent than the whole atmosphere of the house. he offers an empathetic smile.]

Hello, Koltira.

[aww, he wouldn't want to escape his psychic broham. he is just full of social awkwardness]

Ah, Blue. This is ... your home, is it not?

[a nod.] By way of Remus' kindness, yes. [his eyebrows furrow apologetically, not needing to bring up that yes, i can definitely feel that awkward vibe.] Did Liadrin urge you here?

[identity profile] deadelfwalking.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I apologize for not calling on you here earlier. [he pauses] 'Urge' is a gentle term for it.

[his mouth quirked just a bit. the notion of 'dragged kicking and screaming' came to mind, but he kept that to himself.] Do not apologize. I understand. If there is anything I can do to put you more at ease, though, do tell me.

[identity profile] deadelfwalking.livejournal.com 2009-12-23 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
[murmurs] Your presence alone is a boon, Blue. I hope that my mood is not terribly affecting to your particular condition.

[at that, he shifts to stand against the wall next to him.] No. [absolutely not.] Your company is no burden. It is good to see you well, despite the atmosphere.

[identity profile] deadelfwalking.livejournal.com 2009-12-23 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
[drinking all the while he's talking, swiftly draining the glass] I am intact, at the least. For now. But what of you? Are you ... well?
soldieringblue: (‹when you listen›)

[personal profile] soldieringblue 2009-12-23 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
[a flickering frown at the 'for now'. gdi elfman don't give me another heart attack running off to the atlantic to get pwnt.] Yes. I apologize for not making contact earlier. [as i was asleep 88% of the time but that's just how i roll dawg.]

[identity profile] deadelfwalking.livejournal.com 2009-12-23 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
I had assumed you were angry with me.
soldieringblue: (‹when the wonders never cease›)

[personal profile] soldieringblue 2009-12-23 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
[his expression faultered, looking surprised, worried.] I...No. Absolutely not. I have no reason to be angry with you.

[identity profile] deadelfwalking.livejournal.com 2009-12-23 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. A number of people seemed to be quite displeased with me for my recent actions. It would be perfectly understandable. I ignored all reason.
soldieringblue: (‹when the atmosphere shifts›)

[personal profile] soldieringblue 2009-12-23 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
[a pause.] Any anger I had regarding that situation...was not directed at you. As you said, there were plenty of others for that.

My silence was forced, and not out of resentment, I assure you.

I was asleep. I could not respond.

[identity profile] deadelfwalking.livejournal.com 2009-12-23 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
[he closes one eye] How often do you sleep, Blue?
soldieringblue: (‹when i can breathe again›)

[personal profile] soldieringblue 2009-12-23 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
More than anyone would like. [a rise and fall of his shoulders with his sigh.] Before I had returned to this world...it had been thirteen years.
