Remus had been to enough Christmas parties in his lifetime to know when one would end disastrously, including those that had been specifically dated to avoided interfering with other Christmas plans that the guests might have. This was one of them. But his tolerance had kept him quiet, the happy act of cleaning and decorating taken to as easily as any other task he did.

The twins had also been enlisted to help, given the important task of stringing a length of bright red ribbon and pine up the staircase to the second floor. The soft white lights that followed were magic. In fact, none of the lights, save for whatever lamps or overhead lights that Miles insisted upon, were run by electricity, and many were candles, kept only from setting anything ablaze by a flame-freezing charm.

By the time the morning of the party rolled around, the house looked as if it had been pulled straight out of a Christmas card, Remus borrowing from what he remembered of Christmases as Hogwarts and the Burrow, including a single bit of mistletoe in the entry. The snow helped, piling nicely (if in an oddly organized fashion) outside thanks to a little help from Miles, adding to the image; if nothing else, Remus was happy with it, the certainty that he would wind up having to transfigure another person into some sort of object nagging at the back of his mind.

Tin whistles, toy rocking horses, and sprigs of mistletoe were likely going to be very common later in the evening, he mused, tapping his wand rhythmically against the palm of his hand in thought as he checked everything over once more, walking through the sitting and dining rooms and out into the backyard where the tree house had been built out of ice and wood into the tree there. The floating green structures that Kyle Rayner had promised to provide were still missing, but they would be there soon enough.

He pocketed his wand and walked back into the house, shaking free the snow from his boots, and glancing at the clock. People who had offered their assistance had been asked to come early, which meant that the kitchen was soon going to turn into a madhouse, the extra stove only offering so much help. It also meant he had best make tea before he was banned from the room.

"I didn't expect to see you here!" Bakura smiled as he reached Kaiba's side.
allthecards: (have a stare)

[personal profile] allthecards 2009-12-23 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Lucky you," Kaiba responded dryly.
shiromadoushi: (Not an evil power-hungry DM at all)

Guess who's getting a xmas pressy~ :D

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2009-12-23 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Bakura was in far to good a mood to get Kaiba's Kaibaness make him cranky or even less upbeat. "Thought you might like to know, we sold out of Duel Disks after the demo duel," he said with a smile.
allthecards: (I'm so much better than you)

Is that the pressy or is he getting something else?

[personal profile] allthecards 2009-12-23 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
That was finally enough to get Kaiba's attention. He would put up with these types of parties when he had to, but pointless mingling didn't interest him. Talking with a purpose, especially about work, did.

"Really?" Kaiba said, a slight smirk appearing on his face. "So you aren't completely incompetent at retail."
shiromadoushi: (Embarrassed laugh)

Something else :) Baku made him something :D

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2009-12-23 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Bakura gave a small, embarrassed laugh. That was probably about as close as Kaiba was gonna get to a compliment really. "I do my best!" he smiled, reaching into his bag of gifts for a small wrapped package. "Once everyone saw that they were working, it was like everyone had been saving up for them!"
allthecards: (As close to a smile as you're getting)

Frightening!

[personal profile] allthecards 2009-12-23 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmpf," Kaiba said, looking pleased with himself. "Of course they were." His plans were going well; he should have bullied that company out of a satellite from the beginning.
shiromadoushi: (Yo!)

Kaiba may even like it! It's a Blue Eyes figure he carved and painted. :) Very accurate.

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2009-12-23 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Bakura gave a small smile, nodding. "Un, with all the promotion going on, it was like waiting for the starting gun!" he said with a soft laugh.

He looked down at the small box in his hand before holding it out. "Merry Christmas, Kaiba-kun.
allthecards: (Huh?)

Kaiba can't say no to a blue eyes!

[personal profile] allthecards 2009-12-23 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Kaiba's smirk vanished instantly when Bakura held out the present. When everyone was an adversary every act held an ulterior motive, and he didn't know what Bakura's was.

"What's this?" he asked distrustfully, taking the box like it might burn him.
shiromadoushi: (Not an evil power-hungry DM at all)

Nope! That;'s why Baku made it. Hell if he knew what else to get Kaiba :DD

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2009-12-23 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
It took a lot of effort for Bakura not to laugh at that reaction. "It's a Christmas present, Kaiba-kun," he pointed out with a smile.
allthecards: (What the deuce?)

If it's a dragon it's probably good!

[personal profile] allthecards 2009-12-23 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Obviously," Kaiba said, hiding his confusion with sarcasm, and grasping the box rougher than necessary. He didn't trust it, but he also wasn't going to leave it unopened. He got the paper off in a neat fashion, and opened the box not knowing what to expect but sure he wasn't going to like it.

Once the box was open though, he lifted the tiny blue eyes white dragon out with what could only be described as awe. It was exactly like the card, a miniature but not in the same sense that a toon was. He stared at it silently, not sure how to react or why he had it.
shiromadoushi: (Contemplative)

Hehe.

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2009-12-23 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Bakura watched the reaction closely, a small smile on his face. "Is it any good?" he asked gently, not wanting to break the moment.
allthecards: (Huh?)

Nice gesture...no ulterior motive...does not compute.

[personal profile] allthecards 2009-12-23 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Kaiba was pulled out of the miniatures spell when Bakura spoke and brought him back to reality. "Hmm," Kaiba said, looking away slightly instead of providing an actual answer. "Where did you find this? Has another company been making a profit off of duel monsters without consent?"

shiromadoushi: (Yo!)

Poor Kaiba :D

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2009-12-23 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
"I made it," Bakura said with a smile. "First time making a Duel Monster, normally I just make figures for my TRPG. But I thought you might like it. I used your commercials for the model, to make sure I got it all right."
allthecards: (puppy-look)

Lol, now he's really confused.

[personal profile] allthecards 2009-12-23 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh," Kaiba responded a bit lamely as his last defense in the conversation was cut through. He clenched the figure in his fist and quickly stored it in his inner coat pocket.

"So you can do something useful with table top games," he said face firmly facing the side. If Bakura was planning to wait for anything else resembling a 'thank you' he would be disappointed. Accepting the gift was as close as Kaiba planned to get.
shiromadoushi: (Happy ^_^)

*victory.gif* :D Here, Bakura will bring the topic back to safe things :D

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2009-12-23 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Bakura knew enough of Kaiba not to expect that at all. His expression had been enough, really. "Un," he smiled. "I've actually been making some figures to sell at the shop. Original designs, no any Duel Monsters or anything," he added quickly to assure the businessman in Kaiba before it could resurface. "Been getting some custom orders for them too. And for buildings for the boards."
allthecards: (I'm so much better than you)

[personal profile] allthecards 2009-12-23 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Kaiba caught the assurance but was already thinking in a different direction. "You should make more Duel Monsters," Kaiba said simply, taking the gift and working it into a business decision. "If you can keep a consistent level of craftsmanship, they might even be able to turn a profit."

"If nothing else, it would help make your display better." Perhaps this party wouldn't be a complete waste of time, if a business venture could come of it.
shiromadoushi: (!)

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2009-12-23 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Eh? You think so?" Bakura blinked. "Which ones should I make, do you think?" the Blue Eyes had been an easy choice, after all.
