Remus had been to enough Christmas parties in his lifetime to know when one would end disastrously, including those that had been specifically dated to avoided interfering with other Christmas plans that the guests might have. This was one of them. But his tolerance had kept him quiet, the happy act of cleaning and decorating taken to as easily as any other task he did.

The twins had also been enlisted to help, given the important task of stringing a length of bright red ribbon and pine up the staircase to the second floor. The soft white lights that followed were magic. In fact, none of the lights, save for whatever lamps or overhead lights that Miles insisted upon, were run by electricity, and many were candles, kept only from setting anything ablaze by a flame-freezing charm.

By the time the morning of the party rolled around, the house looked as if it had been pulled straight out of a Christmas card, Remus borrowing from what he remembered of Christmases as Hogwarts and the Burrow, including a single bit of mistletoe in the entry. The snow helped, piling nicely (if in an oddly organized fashion) outside thanks to a little help from Miles, adding to the image; if nothing else, Remus was happy with it, the certainty that he would wind up having to transfigure another person into some sort of object nagging at the back of his mind.

Tin whistles, toy rocking horses, and sprigs of mistletoe were likely going to be very common later in the evening, he mused, tapping his wand rhythmically against the palm of his hand in thought as he checked everything over once more, walking through the sitting and dining rooms and out into the backyard where the tree house had been built out of ice and wood into the tree there. The floating green structures that Kyle Rayner had promised to provide were still missing, but they would be there soon enough.

He pocketed his wand and walked back into the house, shaking free the snow from his boots, and glancing at the clock. People who had offered their assistance had been asked to come early, which meant that the kitchen was soon going to turn into a madhouse, the extra stove only offering so much help. It also meant he had best make tea before he was banned from the room.

Blue could hardly ignore the request, given her eagerness. A vague chuckle was his reply, turning the parcel in hand and felt for the overlap of paper and carefully tore it. What was exposed after that was...well. He wasn't quite sure what he was looking at. Puzzled, he turned it around in hand, regarding the...orb in the box before looking up at Liadrin for some sort of clue.

"I was told," She began, reaching over him to turn the object upside down and remove it from the package, "That this ball can foresee the future, should you ask it a 'yes' or 'no' question and shake it before looking into the base."

Liadrin was trying to contain her excitement. She wanted him to know the future of his people, she wanted him to know peace without fear.

Blue's eyebrows raised, collecting the box as Liadrin showcased the ball. Was something so useful that easy to obtain? "Such a thing exists in this world?"

Yes it is-- It explodes in 15 minutes!! D:

Passing it off to him before she broke it, Liadrin removed the empty box and placed her hands atop his, nodding with enthusiasm. "Indeed. That is what I was told when I purchased it, and that is what the packaging stated."

Her eyes shifted quick as lightning between the 8-ball and Blue; holding her breath. They were going to know in a few moments what was to become of his world, and good or bad she planned on being there to help him-- but either way, she could barely contain herself.

Despite his doubts, Liadrin's anticipation was strong--strong enough to encourage him to have a little hope that maybe, maybe it was true and this little plastic ball knew the truth. Still...Though he knew what he wanted to know (and what Liadrin knew that, too)...It needed testing.

Blue frowned, considering.

"Then..." he looked to the object, asking slowly. "Does the Shangri-La...escape safely?"

Another hesitant look at Liadrin, and, by her urging, he gives the orb a shake and slowly turns it over. He's not sure what he's looking for, but--oh--

"It says to 'try again later'." Blue tilted his head at the message, frowning. "Did I do this incorrectly?"

Uhhh....it's in...dragon years. :l

"Let me see that." Liadrin demanded, snatching up the ball and tapping hard at the plastic bottom with a look of concern. A moment or two of contemplation passed with the blood elf staring so hard in thought that she looked about ready to throw the thing in the nearest fireplace, but instead heaved out a lengthy sigh and peered at the instructions on the box.

Instructions that she was having trouble making out.

"I don't understand. It should have worked. Maybe your mind was not properly
focused on the question."

"Perhaps it only attunes to the one who purchases it," he offered, smiling apologetically. Though, considering he had seen 'MADE IN TAIWAN' vaguely embossed on the base of the object, Blue already had come to his own conclusions...

"Still," he added, "the fact that you would go out of your way to give me such a thing...I am grateful for that."

Attuned to the buyer? Liadrin frowned in bitter disappointment. The present in her hands discarded suddenly, thrown behind a nearby couch as she began to dig through her purse silently. Then, fists dripping with fat gold coins, she pushed them to Blue's chest.

"Here. Buy another!"

"Li--" The gesture, so earnest, but sudden, sends several of the foreign coins to the floor as Blue's hands fail to grasp quickly. He was overwhelmed a moment, eyes flickering and cast down to the fallen gold.

He slowly knelt down to collect them, and his words were mumbled to his hands as they reached.

"I am...not so certain..."
