Remus had been to enough Christmas parties in his lifetime to know when one would end disastrously, including those that had been specifically dated to avoided interfering with other Christmas plans that the guests might have. This was one of them. But his tolerance had kept him quiet, the happy act of cleaning and decorating taken to as easily as any other task he did.

The twins had also been enlisted to help, given the important task of stringing a length of bright red ribbon and pine up the staircase to the second floor. The soft white lights that followed were magic. In fact, none of the lights, save for whatever lamps or overhead lights that Miles insisted upon, were run by electricity, and many were candles, kept only from setting anything ablaze by a flame-freezing charm.

By the time the morning of the party rolled around, the house looked as if it had been pulled straight out of a Christmas card, Remus borrowing from what he remembered of Christmases as Hogwarts and the Burrow, including a single bit of mistletoe in the entry. The snow helped, piling nicely (if in an oddly organized fashion) outside thanks to a little help from Miles, adding to the image; if nothing else, Remus was happy with it, the certainty that he would wind up having to transfigure another person into some sort of object nagging at the back of his mind.

Tin whistles, toy rocking horses, and sprigs of mistletoe were likely going to be very common later in the evening, he mused, tapping his wand rhythmically against the palm of his hand in thought as he checked everything over once more, walking through the sitting and dining rooms and out into the backyard where the tree house had been built out of ice and wood into the tree there. The floating green structures that Kyle Rayner had promised to provide were still missing, but they would be there soon enough.

He pocketed his wand and walked back into the house, shaking free the snow from his boots, and glancing at the clock. People who had offered their assistance had been asked to come early, which meant that the kitchen was soon going to turn into a madhouse, the extra stove only offering so much help. It also meant he had best make tea before he was banned from the room.

It wasn't that it was a surprise--merely that he'd hoped the atmosphere might have brought out a different one in her. After all, she was so prone to friendship speeches that he'd thought it almost certain to have done so.

But, never mind that; he wished to spend time with her, and if this was the way it would be done, then he would happily take to it.

There was a moment of hesitation while he tried to determine what would be an appropriate show of affection without giving away too much, after which he held out a hand and gestured in the direction of the storage closets where all the leftover decorations had been put.

"Then let us fetch the supplies and be on our way."
dragony: (oh right i'm 11 lol)

Words and actions, unfortunately, do not always align, and for as often as she espoused this or that ideal, frequently she did not act within accordance. Ruka was quite the mess of contradiction.

Case in point: for as much as she did hold affect for everyone in their eclectic household, and even more so for the family they had managed to carve, Ruka hesitated a moment before taking the offered hand with her own (which were, as always, gloved).

After a moment of quiet, she asked, "Do you think many people will come?"

I did not! I just had a headache. There was no breaking involved!

Then they formed a lovely household in "Do as I say, not as I do", and it had seemed to have worked relatively well so far, insomuch as one can reasonably expect of a mildly dysfunctional little home chock full of issue-filled imPorts.

Just as he had hesitated in offering it, and she in taking it, he then took a little longer to force himself to keep holding onto hers as they began to head towards the supplies.

"I... am not sure. The response was large, but so much happens here on a regular basis. They might all be eaten by a rampaging slug on the way."

Then, frowning, he added, "Though I should most certainly hope they are not."
dragony: (that's rather disappointing)

Well good! Though I heard there was a Cat Attack :|

While she did not wear her gloves to fight the cold, Ruka was grateful for them, for how cold his hands felt; it reminded her of things she wished to forget but likely never would without dying herself.

"There haven't been many posts yet," she said, forcing herself back to the topic at hand, "so I don't think anything too terrible could have happened today."

Sometimes it seemed as though the Voice of the Porter could cough, and a hundred posts would flood the network within the hour.

"... And if it was a rampaging slug," she added, thinking it over, "wouldn't the salt on the roads kill it?"

Ah, that was later, and small

It rarely occurred to him how cold his hands were anymore; only the frost on the surface of the backs reminded him on this particular day, and even then only occasionally.

He considered her point thoughtfully, giving a deep, rumbling hmm as he mulled over the probability of salty street death.

"Ah," Edgeworth finally answered, having come up with a suitable argument. "Perhaps it was a genetically engineered slug, or had armor, or some such. The villains of this City do seem to have some degree of intelligence. I'm sure someone would think to cover for that particular flaw."

"Not that many of them," she countered as they arrived at their supply-gathering destination. She let go of his hand, looking around for what they might need. "The City still exists, doesn't it?"
