Remus had been to enough Christmas parties in his lifetime to know when one would end disastrously, including those that had been specifically dated to avoided interfering with other Christmas plans that the guests might have. This was one of them. But his tolerance had kept him quiet, the happy act of cleaning and decorating taken to as easily as any other task he did.
The twins had also been enlisted to help, given the important task of stringing a length of bright red ribbon and pine up the staircase to the second floor. The soft white lights that followed were magic. In fact, none of the lights, save for whatever lamps or overhead lights that Miles insisted upon, were run by electricity, and many were candles, kept only from setting anything ablaze by a flame-freezing charm.
By the time the morning of the party rolled around, the house looked as if it had been pulled straight out of a Christmas card, Remus borrowing from what he remembered of Christmases as Hogwarts and the Burrow, including a single bit of mistletoe in the entry. The snow helped, piling nicely (if in an oddly organized fashion) outside thanks to a little help from Miles, adding to the image; if nothing else, Remus was happy with it, the certainty that he would wind up having to transfigure another person into some sort of object nagging at the back of his mind.
Tin whistles, toy rocking horses, and sprigs of mistletoe were likely going to be very common later in the evening, he mused, tapping his wand rhythmically against the palm of his hand in thought as he checked everything over once more, walking through the sitting and dining rooms and out into the backyard where the tree house had been built out of ice and wood into the tree there. The floating green structures that Kyle Rayner had promised to provide were still missing, but they would be there soon enough.
He pocketed his wand and walked back into the house, shaking free the snow from his boots, and glancing at the clock. People who had offered their assistance had been asked to come early, which meant that the kitchen was soon going to turn into a madhouse, the extra stove only offering so much help. It also meant he had best make tea before he was banned from the room.

LEELOO MINAI LEKARARIBA-LAMINAI-TCHAI EKBAT DE SEB
KATURIAN KATURIAN
HAL 9000
ALEX FORBES
AND A SMALL WOMAN DRESSED UP AS THE WIFE
OF DESIGNATION: SANTA CLAUS
no subject
She wonders how the conversation with Katurian went, and who the woman was, but Alex's name is definitely the most unexpected on the list. ]
Was Alex unpleasant?
[ She knows that GLaDOS knows about her relationship with Nigel, even if she and Cameron haven't spoken of it. There's no reason to believe that the other woman hasn't picked up every unencrypted message on the subject. ]

I LIKE HIM
AND I SUSPECT THAT HE FINDS ME
MODERATELY TO EXTREMELY TOLERABLE
GIVEN THAT OBSERVATIONAL DATA FROM THE NETWORK
INDICATES THAT CIVILIAN DESIGNATION: ALEX FORBES
DOES NOT LIKE PEOPLE IN GENERAL
WE HAVE DECIDED TO BE FRIENDS
FOR THE TIME BEING
no subject
That should be an interesting development; it is my understanding that Alex does not tend to make friends and Nigel will be unhappy. What do you think him? Beyond that he is interesting.
[ She thinks they both are, honestly, although Alex's own attitude has made it difficult for her to interact with him at all. ]

I BELIEVE ANY AND ALL
OF THE FOLLOWING TERMINOLOGY
CAN BE ACCURATELY USED TO DESCRIBE ALEX FORBES:
INTELLIGENT
PHILOSOPHICAL
CONFRONTATIONAL
NARCISSISTIC
EMOTIONALLY IMBALANCED
AND AESTHETICALLY PLEASING
no subject
You must have made a very strong impression upon him to agree to being friends. He is very selfish.

SO AM I
no subject
She wonders what that says about her, exactly, but sets it aside for the moment. She can more easily process that information while alone and would rather do it unobserved. ]
I hope it is a beneficial friendship for you both.

WE ARE TO SEE ONE ANOTHER
ON SATURDAY
DO YOU THINK THIS IS
A BAD IDEA
no subject
I am mostly concerned with Nigel and John's reactions to this development, respectively. However I do not know if you plan on informing John about it and I am rather certain I will learn Nigel's response sooner as opposed to later.
[ Another smile. ]
I look forward to hearing how things proceed between the two of you.

ALEX FORBES IS AWARE OF MY ACTUAL DESIGNATION
AS A RESULT HE IS ALSO AWARE OF MY CAPABILITIES
HE IS SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW
THAT MAKING ME UNHAPPY
IS A VERY BAD IDEA
I HAVE ALREADY QUERIED HIM
AS TO WHETHER OR NOT
HE INTENDS TO INFORM NIGEL COLBIE
OF OUR ARRANGEMENT
HE ANSWERED IN THE POSITIVE
SO I IMAGINE YOUR SUSPICIONS ARE CORRECT
I DO NOT THINK TELLING JOHN IS A GOOD IDEA
HE WOULD MOST LIKELY OBJECT
TO BOTH MY ASSOCATION WITH ALEX FORBES
AS WELL AS OUR INTENDED ACTIVITY
no subject
What is the intended activity?
no subject
CHAOS
no subject
You shall have to tell me all about it later, then.
[ Not here, where Edgeworth and his housemates keep flitting in and out of social clusters, picking up on all sorts of information. ]
no subject
I WILL CAMERON
[ She lifts a finger. ]
DO NOT TELL JOHN
no subject
[ A moment of consideration and then: ]
Don't help him find out about Nigel, either.
