Remus had been to enough Christmas parties in his lifetime to know when one would end disastrously, including those that had been specifically dated to avoided interfering with other Christmas plans that the guests might have. This was one of them. But his tolerance had kept him quiet, the happy act of cleaning and decorating taken to as easily as any other task he did.

The twins had also been enlisted to help, given the important task of stringing a length of bright red ribbon and pine up the staircase to the second floor. The soft white lights that followed were magic. In fact, none of the lights, save for whatever lamps or overhead lights that Miles insisted upon, were run by electricity, and many were candles, kept only from setting anything ablaze by a flame-freezing charm.

By the time the morning of the party rolled around, the house looked as if it had been pulled straight out of a Christmas card, Remus borrowing from what he remembered of Christmases as Hogwarts and the Burrow, including a single bit of mistletoe in the entry. The snow helped, piling nicely (if in an oddly organized fashion) outside thanks to a little help from Miles, adding to the image; if nothing else, Remus was happy with it, the certainty that he would wind up having to transfigure another person into some sort of object nagging at the back of his mind.

Tin whistles, toy rocking horses, and sprigs of mistletoe were likely going to be very common later in the evening, he mused, tapping his wand rhythmically against the palm of his hand in thought as he checked everything over once more, walking through the sitting and dining rooms and out into the backyard where the tree house had been built out of ice and wood into the tree there. The floating green structures that Kyle Rayner had promised to provide were still missing, but they would be there soon enough.

He pocketed his wand and walked back into the house, shaking free the snow from his boots, and glancing at the clock. People who had offered their assistance had been asked to come early, which meant that the kitchen was soon going to turn into a madhouse, the extra stove only offering so much help. It also meant he had best make tea before he was banned from the room.

The blond passing him by catches Saitou's attention for a moment from his sulking, as he notices the unlit cigarette at the end of his mouth. Well. That slightly gave him an answer to his mental query of how irate Edgeworth would get if he smoked indoors...

He says nothing for now, though, simply watching the man walk around for a few minutes before pulling out his own pack of cigarettes from his pocket, contemplating. Maybe he could escape outside for a moment and not get complaints.

Sanji helpfully leaned past him and muttered, "Back porch. Through there," with a quick jerk of his thumb to the kitchen door. Edgeworth had already showed him the quickest route to the smoking deck - and he recognized that look on Saitou's face. All too well.
wolfofmibu: (you bore me)

Oh, well. That was unexpected. But he gives the blond a nod before heading that direction, taking a glance back, though. He really did like irritating Edgeworth any time he possibly could, so maybe dragging off his help somewhere wasn't such a bad idea.

"Coming?"

"Fuck yes." Sanji deposited the appetizers on the nearest open surface with plans to collect the inevitable empty plate later. Smoke break first! He led the way swiftly through the kitchen, not even bothering to hunt up his coat first. The crisp, cold air outside would feel good.

He manages a small smirk at his response, understanding just as well. Maybe this man didn't smoke as frequently as he did, but there was still that driving want for nicotine every so often during the day. For now Saitou followed silently, glancing around his surroundings just a little, examining Edgeworth's residence. Interesting enough.

Being busy in the kitchen kept Sanji's mind off his cravings long enough, but now that the party had started, he needed to do more than just chew on an unlit cigarette. The instant he pushed the door to the porch open, he already had his lighter in hand and was cupping his fingers to protect the flame from the wind.

...and then offering it to Saitou in the smoking man's wordless universal gesture.

Hm. Saitou still had yet to get one of those things - maybe because he was so used to using matches for so long. But nonetheless he accepts the offered light and leans back, sighing in relief a second later at getting to smoke again. It had been a bit longer than he'd like since his last cigarette, and it probably showed. Damn this City and its civilians' distaste for it.

Likewise, Sanji leaned back against the wall and exhaled like a starving man after a meal. He himself alternated between a lighter and matches - he only had a couple left in his matchbox from King Blue, which he was saving for sentimental reasons.

"Now that's more like it," he murmured.

this will prolly be my last para for tonight since I'm losing brain function xD;

He laughed a bit under his breath upon hearing that, staring at nothing in particular for a little while and just going over his thoughts. This was such a chaotic time for the City because of all this American holiday nonsense, plus the unnecessary paperwork and arrests having to be made in the past few days... it was getting tiring.

"You work here?" he couldn't help but ask. Any dirt on the stuck-up lawyer was always so interesting.
notadartboard: (say what)

ahaha I went to bed at that time too

[personal profile] notadartboard 2009-12-24 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just for today," Sanji replied lazily. "Edgeworth put out a call for help and I happen to be a chef. Perfect match." Saitou was probably going to be disappointed, there wasn't any "dirt" in the kitchen.
