WHO: The Doctor and Lyra Silvertongue
WHERE: A Pizza Place
WHEN: Saturday the 2nd
WARNINGS: None
SUMMARY: The Doctor and Lyra have pizza and talk.
FORMAT: Whatever.

The Doctor was in high spirits as he went to the pizza parlor that Lyra had recommended. He wasn't necessarily a big fan of pizza but it was hard to pass up a good old fashioned New York slice of pizza. Or City slice of pizza. Plus, he'd get to talk to Lyra Silvertounge and that would be exciting. He wondered if she'd have the alethiometer. Oh how he'd love to have a look at that. So, it was with a broad grin that the Doctor neared the parlor.

Lyra's alethiometer was safe at the base, actually. She was already waiting at the pizza parlour although she hadn't ordered yet. Pantalaimon was, as usual, concealed behind an illusion as Lyra carefully watched the door.

Despite the man's protests otherwise, Lyra was fairly certain he was some kind of seer, or else was working with her father. Although why the man was so enthusiastic about meeting her, she couldn't guess.

Lyra smiled, looking a little startled.

"I don't understand why you're so excited to see me- I'm hardly anyone important," she said, gesturing for him to sit down opposite from her.

"What kind of pizza d'you like?"

"Did I- what?!" Lyra's jaw dropped as her illusion momentarily fell, making Pantalaimon visible for an instant, before she regained her composure. It wasn't easy though. She almost felt dizzy, and she wanted to either insist he had her confused with someone else, or demand he explain more. Instead, she changed the subject, eyeing him carefully.

"A bit of everything it is then!" she declared as a waiter came up to the table.

"So... You're a Doctor, en't you? A scholar?" she asked, trying to figure out who on earth this man was exactly.

"The Doctor... You're the only one then? And yeah, doing things is more fun- you fly planes then?" Lyra asked with some interest, sipping her water.

"Travelling throught space and time, you mean?" Lyra paused, and she hesitated before she spoke next.

"What about different universes?"

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Lyra's eyes went wide.

"Different universes? But doesn't that... What about Spectres and Dust leaking out?"

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-03 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"So... What's between universes isn't always the same?" Lyra asked, "I was wondering if it was just a different way of traveling."

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
"So... There are ways to get to them without tearing through a wall?" Lyra asked thoughtfully.

"You've been to a lot of different worlds, haven't you. Have you ever heard of anything like what's going on in the City right now? With the 'porter and all?"

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"So maybe..." Lyra shook her head. No, she couldn't get her hopes up.

"People getting pulled into another world, and what happens there... not really affecting their own world?" Lyra asked, "Well, if it's hard to notice if you're anywhere but the place it's happening, maybe it en't so surprising."

"Why are we really getting pulled here then?" She asked as the pizza arrived.

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll help you," Lyra told him, "I want to know too. About why we're here, and what's really going on." She'd also have liked more information on the Doctor- like why he knew of her. Maybe she could as someone else on the network to talk to him, to see what he'd tell them?

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Lyra blushed slightly at the compliment, and she felt Pantalamon's claws dig into her leg as she ran a hand down his back.

"I'm not sure if anyone really believes that line about us replacing the police force. Not when most of the people who've joined the new one are from this world to start with. And there aren't enough people ported in to replace the police, not even considering the powers it gives them."

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Actually, they outnumber the people the 'porter brought in. By a lot, really. But 'ported in people are the ones in charge of the police," Lyra told him, "And the police have only been gone for a year and some months. It's still pretty suspicious, especially considering the people the 'porter's brought in en't exactly the sorts you'd pick to replace a police force."

Lyra grabbed a slice and took a few bites.

"Some of them are too young, like me. Some of them are... well, they're bad people, and some of them just want to live normal lives," she continued.

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, not really. But people can try, I suppose," Lyra said as she took a few more bites.

"Of course, you'd have to ignore most of the stuff that happens here to do that," she added.

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
"And yet, people manage. Although why they want to ignore all this interesting stuff, I don't know. And it doesn't really help. It's not like stuff goes away if you pretend it en't there," Lyra said as she finished her slice.

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Dangerous, but brilliant," Lyra agreed, "And all the people here!"

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. The 'porter makes a lot of them human though," Lyra said, "And I think there's only two elves in the city. Lots of people who used to be robots though."

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Lyra tilted her head, "Yeah. Most of the time, that's the first thing they say on the network. Besides the usual 'where am I and what's going on' that almost everyone asks one way or another."

"Although there are some people who... well, they're evidence that the 'porter talking about heroes was probably a lie."

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, like the Lich King," Lyra said unhappily.

"And people don't work together to stop them until something horrible happens."

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe, but I'd still prefer they did it before lots of people got hurt," Lyra pointed out, "And yeah. 'Lich King' en't a subtle name at all."

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2010-01-09 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Lyra bit her lip, "Sometimes, I guess. When they could see problems coming," Lyra couldn't think of any examples, but she was sure there had to be some.

"Other stuff... Well, people can't stop what they don't expect."
