Who: OPEN TO ALL
What: Avengers/Police First Annual Carnivaland Shenanigans
Where: Central Park
When: Saturday and Sunday
Warning: TBD
Summary: here
Format: Para to start and then quicklog -- tag yourselves in!
Staying awake for nearly 48 hours was nothing new to Janet. She had been a graduate student, once, not too long ago, and there was a time right before her dissertations were due that she stayed awake for nearly five days on nothing but coffee grinds and a prayer. Everyone had just finished setting up for the carnival-- food stands, a stage, everything colorfully decorated, and some reporters hanging around-- and Jan, in all of her OCD glory was triple checking every piece of wood, nail, and screw.
It wasn't terribly large but there were a fair number of booths and people who couldn't wait to dunk, watch eat pie, or kiss some of their city's finest. Janet was pretty sure that every old lady in the city would give their meds and cane to have a chance to kiss Tony Stark.
Tiredness was starting to hit her but it was overwhelmed by anxiety. If anything went wrong, it was going to be completely on her. So far, so good but she didn't want to jinx it.
Jan took a sip of her eighteenth cup of coffee and said a little prayer to any deity listening.

It tastes fine; it just gets all over the bloody place.
[The dry napkin doesn't really get the stickiest parts off, so he has to wet it with his tongue, feeling like he's three years old. Paige's laughter isn't really helping his dignity, but he soldiers on.]
Have I got it all?

[Paige goes back for another napkin and wets it with water from a nearby fountain. She manages to put on a straight face and comes back to help him. Still, snorts of laughter are threatening to break loose.]
It is really messy.
[It can't hurt to placate him a bit and without thinking about it, reaching up to help him wipe the side of his face. As soon as she does it, Paige realizes that this might be a little awkward.
Oops.]

This is too odd, and Jono is torn between injured male pride and the strangest urge to laugh hysterically. His face settles on a helpless smile.]
Er, thanks luv, but I think I've got it.
[He reaches up to disengage her hand from dabbing at his face.]

...Hi.

Oh! Hey, Josh err-- Jay or whatever it is you're going by these days. Jay, this is my... friend and former teammate Jonothon Starsmore. Jono, this is my little brother, Jay.

Hullo. You're with the X-men, yeah?
[He vaguely remembers seeing him on the network. Those wings are hard to mistake, and the irony that they belong to Paige's kid brother isn't lost on Jono.]

New Mutants.
[PAUSE]
...Nice to meet you.

It's weird, my brother is kind of from the future so now I'm not that much older than him. I'm still considering myself his big sister, though.

[This is probably one of the most awkward conversations that Jono's found himself in during his lifetime, yup.]
The Porter likes to mess with us like that, yeah. It makes things like age bloody confusing to keep track of around here... but it's alright so long as you're still older, yeah?
[Oh Christ humour. Why humour. He is so off-balance now.]
