Amara wasn't the least bit surprised that Mrs. Guthrie had commandeered the kitchen and she was also sure that not one person would complain about it. She was happy for Sam and his siblings that their mother was here-- despite all the dangers of city-life, who wouldn't love to have a parent here to turn to when things got rough? Still, it couldn't have been easy for her to have been transported here, seeing Jay alive, living in this new environment. But how many people got second chances with their dead children? Amara couldn't decide if this was lucky or unlucky.

Fully dressed for the day, despite not having to go to work until much later, Amara immediately went to greet Mrs. Guthrie. Maybe she had been drawn to the fact that there was a mother here, something Amara hadn't had in a while, but mostly it was because she just liked Sam's mother-- a hard worker, earnest, and kind hearted.

"Good morning, Mrs. Guthrie. Did you sleep well?" She pulled down some plates from the cupboards and started setting the table while Mrs. Guthrie cooked. Amara wasn't good with cooking, so she wouldn't be much help there, but she could set out dishes, cups, and silverware.
