Bakura ran down the hall to his friends' apartment, banging on the door. "Alastair-oniichan! Kiryuu-kun! Saitou-san! Are you in there?!"

Bakura didn't look up, but reached out a hand to find his brother's. "Oniichan..."

[hackeralastair]

Alastair took the hand and squeezed it. "It's okay. It's gonna be fine, we just. I don't know." He sighed heavily. "Shit. Kyosuke warned me, but I had no idea what all happened. Dammit, Saitou..."

"Warned you?" Bakura asked softly, slowly leaning against his brother, eyes closing. Which was an improvement over the blank staring.

"I got a private text, in the middle of the night," Alastair explained, permitting the contact and remaining still and stable. "It was just after you and I got back, actually. He said Saitou was in trouble and they weren't coming back to the apartment for a few days. I didn't know he hurt one of the other cops or anything, though."

He breathed a short, terse sigh. "This is gonna be bad..."

Bakura's eyes slowly opened again, looking clearer again as he slowly returned to himself. "Everything just went to hell then, didn't it?" he asked softly. "Did-- did Saitou-san really...?"

"What, kill Cavil?" Alastair looked down at his knees for a moment, and then the cat as she rubbed up against both their legs in search of attention. "I wasn't around when that happened, that was a while ago. I only know that he did do it - he got Cavil back, for killing Kyosuke the first time. He got himself killed trying for the second time.

"Yeah," he added after a breath's pause. "It's gone to hell."

Bakura gave a small nod. "I hope Saitou-san kills him again for that time too..." he said with a strange, hard tone to his voice. "What he did... the fires and everything... I hope he burns just the same someday..."

Alastair recoiled a little bit. For a moment, Bakura was sounding almost like Kiryu. And he had stopped Kiryu from killing...

"It won't do any good," he said, frowning. "When guys like that get killed, they just come back with the need to kill you back - and they're running around out there scott-free, where they can really do it." His voice carried the same hard edge, but from determination. Alastair had been thinking about this a lot since trying to justify his instinctual actions to Kiryu. "I want Cavil to rot in jail where he is, because the minute he gets out he's coming after all of us - not just Saitou and Kyosuke this time, but me too. And I really don't want to die."

"It doesn't seem fair," Bakura said, voice dropping down to it's normal, softer tone, breif spike of anger already spent, but the edge was still there. Raw and hurting with echoes of the anger that came and went with no warning.

"I won't let anyone kill you or Kiryu-kun or anyone if I can do anything about it..." His hand tightened around Alastair's at that, grief growing stronger. He felt as if he had failed Blue, even though rationally, he knew there was no way he could have done anything.

"Of course it's not fair," Alastair griped. "It's part of what makes this place suck so much sometimes. People go off and do stupid things because if they die, they assume they'll just come back. Never mind if they don't, or if they forget everything when they do. And everyone talks about their morals and their crap, but nobody ever does anything to stop it...nobody ever cares..."

He sighed and flopped back, withdrawing his hand so he could run both hands through his red hair. "I'm sorry. You don't need me making it worse. I just don't know what to do right now."

Bakura shook his head slightly. "It's not making it worse," he assured softly, looking down at his scarred hand. "It was a miracle when I woke up again after Monster World... I hadn't expected to, and for a little while... I wasn't sure I wanted to. But I'm glad I did... and I'm glad Kiryu-kun did, and Saitou-san. And that they both still remembered...."

He trailed off, fingers curling as he tried to fend off the swirl of doubts and fears in his mind. "It does mean something, every time anyone dies. That Blue-san might come back... doesn't make what happened to him any less horrible..."

[hackeralastair]

"I know," Alastair said defeatedly. "We've been lucky so far. I'm glad they came back, too, I don't want to lose them. But I really wish they'd just stop dying in the first place. Kyosuke said that it still hurt. And yes it's horrible, but...I can't stay mad when they come back. I can't do anything...just be happy that they're back and that's it."

He glanced sideways at Bakura. "Don't you ever do something to get yourself killed. All right? I don't ever want to have that happen to you."

"I won't die," Bakura promised softly. "Not as long as you're here with me." He gave a small smile. "Dying didn't hurt the first time because I had nothing to lose but even more friends if I did nothing. It's not the same now."

[hackeralastair]

"Man, don't talk like that." Alastair grabbed Bakura around his fluffy head and pulled him in for a one-armed hug. "Nobody else is dying here."

He still didn't know what the hell to do about Saitou. As time went on, that could become a problem.

Bakura ducked his head a little, smiling as he relaxed into the hug. "Sorry," he apologized, leaning against his brother. "I'm just talking without thinking..." His eyes closed and he gave a soft yawn, having worn himself out with his panic. "Ne... can I stay here tonight...?" he asked quietly.

[hackeralastair]

"...yeah. I think you should." Alastair let him go and tried to fix his hair, to no avail. "It's just you and me on this floor till...till Hiruma and the guys get back from the Super Bowl. Kyosuke's not using the room across from mine, it's sort of a guest room."

It wasn't as though he hadn't spent nights alone in the apartment before. All three of them had strange schedules and it was rare that all three were in at a decent hour to sleep at the same time. But this was somehow different. Alastair didn't want a yawning lonely chasm around him when he could at least know Bakura was close by.

Bakura gave a soft, tired smile at that, slowly sitting up. "I should," he agreed. "I sleep better when I'm not alone..."

He trailed off a moment. "They'll be fine, right? Kiryu-kun and Saitou-san?"

Alastair gave another sigh, and finally succumbed to the cat's presence, picking her up with one hand and setting her on his lap so she could be petted. "I guess so. Saitou's some kind of ancient samurai badass, right? And Kyosuke knows how to live on the streets. His text said they'd find a place, but I told him not to tell me just in case. Good thing, because then I didn't have to lie when I said I don't know where they are."

He looked down at the cat in his lap and made a face at the hair shedding off onto his jeans. "I guess all we can do is trust them, and wait."

Bakura gave a small smile at the cat, reaching out to pet her as well. "Un... as long as they have somewhere."

He was quiet a moment. "I hope they can come back soon. I like having everyone all together like this..."

Alastair nodded. "Me too. I don't want to leave here...and I don't want to leave them either."

Better than screaming or zombie :D

Bakura nodded. "This... this is the first time anyplace has really felt like home since..." he trailed off a moment. "In a long time," he finally finished.

"It's better than being alone," Alastair agreed.

"....you wanna just order a pizza?"

But his tired face makes such a cute zombie :)

Bakura nodded. "Yeah. I don't really feel up to cooking," he admitted. "Especially not for just two," he added in a softer tone. "I've gotten so used to cooking for everyone, I don't know if I could just cook that small of an amount any more."

"Don't worry about it. It's not going to be like that," Alastair said firmly, pushing the cat off his lap and getting up. "Go on and get your things, I'll call the pizza place down the street. We'll just have some food, and watch movies until we fall asleep. Not worry about anything else, and I mean anything. Right?"

Bakura gave a small nod, leaning a bit on the couch as he got unsteadily to his feet, the remnants of the adrenaline and everything else catching up to him for a breif moment. "I'll try," he promised, giving a small, tired looking smile.

There was a breif moment of hesitation before he gave his brother a tight hug.
