DUEL MONSTERS TOURNAMENT ♠ ROUND 1

WHO: ANYONE AND EVERYONE
WHERE: Central Park and Harbor
WHEN: Saturday March, 20th early afternoon
WARNING: Swearing and card games
SUMMARY: Round 1 of the duel monster's tournament.
FORMAT: Whatever you want!

Months of planning and recreating an empire from the ground up was finally reaching its climax. Fireworks shot into the sky as the workers ran out of the way trying to avoid the large screen to which the firework stands were attached. If there was still anyone who had not heard that a Duel Monsters Tournament was being held in the city, the sights and sounds quickly informed them.

The same set up was found in the two locations. One at the center of Central Park and the other stretched next to the water by the harbor. The rules the duelists had been given told them where to meet and when to be sure they would be there for the beginning. Since Kaiba couldn’t be in two places at once, especially as he had his own duel to prepare for, a video had been pre-recorded to start the event. The screens turned on at the same time, the KaibaCorp logo flashing across the screen. It disappears to show a montage of duels fought by different monsters. Those who are paying close attention may even notice cards that Kaiba could have only found out about in the City. The montage ends with a Blue Eyes White Dragon destroying everything in its path and causing the screen to fade to white.

The blank screen suddenly changes again to a video of Kaiba. “Welcome to this City’s first chance at a Duel Monster’s Tournament!” it started. “You have had plenty of time to prepare, and now it’s time to show exactly what you can do. At the end of this announcement the tournament will officially start.

“Find your opponent and duel! The winner will go on to the next round. The loser can go home. You have all been given copies of the rules. Any cheating will be punished.”

The Kaiba in the video paused, emphasing a big-brother idea about how cheating would be caught and punished. The look changed into a smirk as he threw his hand forward and dramatically proclaimed,

Game Start!

(Make your own threads here for your individual duels. You can log as much of the action as you want. Remember you need to PM me with the winner of each duel before Sunday 11pm CST (whether or not the log is finished). If I don’t have a winner I will proclaim one for you to keep things moving. In case you've forgotten the brackets are here)

Juudai couldn't help but smile... but he was in a better situation now. He'd drawn something extremely useful this time.

"Draw! I play the spell card, Ancient Rules, which allows me to special summon a level 5 or higher monster from my hand! Return, Neos!"

The alien warrior leapt back onto Juudai's field, and then he started to take a card from his hand with an almost downright mischievous grin. "Time to turn the tables! Now, I activate the ultimate fusion power from my hand by discarding one card! Super Fusion!!"

Rainbow Dragon started to be pulled into the vortex that appeared overhead, crackling with jolts of power, along with Neos on his own field.

"Awaken! Rainbow Neos!!"

It was a sight that arose various emotions in his heart, mostly pride; it was living spiritual proof of their bond, and it almost made him feel a little guilty to use it against him.

"Since Ancient Rules was a special summon, I'll normal summon the Sangan I drew, and use it to activate Neos' effect this turn! By sending it to the graveyard, I return all monsters you control to the deck! Go, Rainbow Neos! Beyond the Rainbowhole!"

Now he'd have both Yubel and the Gem Beasts a little peeved at him, but he could deal with their wrath later on... he hoped. "And since Sangan's effect activates once it leaves the field, I add Grand Mole to my hand!"

Finally, the field was clear, and he had a direct shot at Johan. It wouldn't finish him this turn, so he had one more chance to strike back. "Rainbow Neos attacks directly! Rainbow Flare Stream!!"

Johan knew that he should be angry at Juudai for sending the Gem Beasts back and for using Rainbow Dragon to summon this monster. But as he stared up at the mighty combination of his greatest monster and Juudai's...he just couldn't be.

Not too much, anyway.

Of course, that was also before Rainbow Neos's attack struck him dead on, sending him flying backwards. His head spun as he struck the ground and everything went black for a moment. He shook his head slowly, then pushed himself back up, a bit of a grin on his face now.

"I still can't believe our monsters can create something like that," he said, brushing himself off. "It's amazing."

That had ended Juudai's turn, and as Johan's head slowly cleared from the attack, he drew his own card. He had four now. G-Force, Gem Split, Gem Flash, and Ruby Carbuncle.

I could stall and bluff. I could get Rainbow Dragon back somehow, I'm sure of it. But there's no need. It would just drag this out more, and he's already won.

He glanced down at his hand once more and nodded, smiling. "Come out, Ruby Carbuncle!" His favorite among the Gem Beasts, the sister of his heart, leaped up and stood before him fiercely, not caring that Rainbow Neos was orders of magnitude larger than she was. "Turn end."

Winner: Juudai, FINALLY

Juudai stared at Johan for a moment. If he were him, he would've stalled longer until he could get Rainbow Dragon back to face Rainbow Neos, perhaps even overpower him in battle as Rainbow Dragon was perfectly capable of doing. But he wasn't... he figured his reasoning was that he wanted to stop dragging out an already lengthy duel, but still.

After drawing, he kept staring for a moment before making the final move. "Rainbow Neos attacks Ruby Carbuncle!"

Another flash of light refracted in every fathomable shade of the color spectrum under the sun, and it was over. Juudai hardly waited for the massive hologram to fade before running to Johan's side.

There was something he wanted to find out.

"Johan!"

Johan took in several deep breaths as the last of his life points drained away. That had been one of the hardest duels he'd ever had against Juudai. He blinked some and looked up as his friend came over.

"Great duel, Juudai." He smiled some, still a bit unsteady after that last attack, but recovering nicely.

"Yeah. Were you getting bored near the end?" Juudai teased, a jab at how long the duel turned out to be, and offered a hand to help Johan off the ground. "And... hey! You have something you were hiding! I saw you hesitate a little earlier there. What did you have in your hand that you were so reluctant to play?" he interrogated firmly, hardly thinking when he grabbed at the duel disk on Johan's arm and tried to pry into the graveyard slot to see for himself.

[identity profile] guardianrainbow.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Johan let Juudai help him up, but then started to pull his duel disk away. Juudai wouldn't know which card it was anyway. "I think I need to modify my deck some. At least if I'm going to keep on playing against you." There were other holes he'd noticed over the last year or so as well that he wanted to have fixed. "And...it was this one."

He reached into the graveyard slot and pulled out the right card. Rainbow Veil. The card that he had had in his hand when he'd had Rainbow Dragon and Juudai had had Yubel on the field: the card that negated all of his opponent's monster's effects during the Battle Phase.

Juudai gazed blankly at the card, remembering the situation. If he'd equipped that to Rainbow Dragon while Yubel had been on the field, and then attacked her while her effect was negated during the Battle Phase...

"...Whaaaa? Why didn't you play that when you had the chance?! You would've won, you idiot!!" he berated Johan without actually being angry at him, though he suspected he already knew the answer to his own question. At the same time, he felt a little guilty for having gone all-out on Johan when Johan had actually decided to try and do things his own way.

Johan put his deck back together, with a special caress for each Gem Beast and Rainbow Dragon. He smiled at Juudai a touch. "Because it wouldn't have been right to seal her power like that. I wasn't going to win like that." If it had been some other monster, with some other effect, maybe. But not Yubel.

[identity profile] miraclefusion.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
"...I thought you might say that," Juudai said softly. "I'm not really sure what to say other than 'you're an idiot', though." He jabbed him in the shoulder. Still, she was pissed at him rather than Johan at the moment, so it would've either been him for taking her off the field, or Johan for negating her power. Only lovingly pissed, however.

And then something struck him -- he made an "oh!" sound as his face turned to one of realization, so he stepped back and held up his right hand, extending his first two fingers out towards Johan.

"Almost forgot! Gooooootcha, Johan! That was fun!"
