DUEL MONSTERS TOURNAMENT ♠ ROUND 1
WHO: ANYONE AND EVERYONE
WHERE: Central Park and Harbor
WHEN: Saturday March, 20th early afternoon
WARNING: Swearing and card games
SUMMARY: Round 1 of the duel monster's tournament.
FORMAT: Whatever you want!
Months of planning and recreating an empire from the ground up was finally reaching its climax. Fireworks shot into the sky as the workers ran out of the way trying to avoid the large screen to which the firework stands were attached. If there was still anyone who had not heard that a Duel Monsters Tournament was being held in the city, the sights and sounds quickly informed them.
The same set up was found in the two locations. One at the center of Central Park and the other stretched next to the water by the harbor. The rules the duelists had been given told them where to meet and when to be sure they would be there for the beginning. Since Kaiba couldn’t be in two places at once, especially as he had his own duel to prepare for, a video had been pre-recorded to start the event. The screens turned on at the same time, the KaibaCorp logo flashing across the screen. It disappears to show a montage of duels fought by different monsters. Those who are paying close attention may even notice cards that Kaiba could have only found out about in the City. The montage ends with a Blue Eyes White Dragon destroying everything in its path and causing the screen to fade to white.
The blank screen suddenly changes again to a video of Kaiba. “Welcome to this City’s first chance at a Duel Monster’s Tournament!” it started. “You have had plenty of time to prepare, and now it’s time to show exactly what you can do. At the end of this announcement the tournament will officially start.
“Find your opponent and duel! The winner will go on to the next round. The loser can go home. You have all been given copies of the rules. Any cheating will be punished.”
The Kaiba in the video paused, emphasing a big-brother idea about how cheating would be caught and punished. The look changed into a smirk as he threw his hand forward and dramatically proclaimed,
“Game Start!”
(Make your own threads here for your individual duels. You can log as much of the action as you want. Remember you need to PM me with the winner of each duel before Sunday 11pm CST (whether or not the log is finished). If I don’t have a winner I will proclaim one for you to keep things moving. In case you've forgotten the brackets are here)

Kaiba VS Crow
He shakes his head, turning it towards the screen when video starts up. A part of him feels a bit nervous - this is his first totally official tournament. The only thing he has done that would come close, would be dueling in the street war of Satellite, under the name of Team Satisfaction when Kiryu had been still…
No. He would not go there, it would just end in a headache. He'd get enough of that should he end up facing Kiryu, which he wasn't sure was that good of an idea. On the other hand avoiding his old friend was definitely not an option either.
Frowning slightly he listens to the announcement - Kaiba sure has a way to hold peoples attention. He stretches a bit when the video ends, replacing the frown with a predatory grin, stalking of to find himself an opponent. Kiryu or not, first and foremost he was here to have fun~]
Alright, let's get this started!

He didn't need to pay attention to the video. He'd made it. It was more important to see the competition. There had been enough A ranked decks that this should actually be interesting. There were some people he wanted to duel, but not yet. Those duels would have to wait until later. After all, there hadn't been a tournament yet where he had not made it at least to the semi-finals. There would be time to challenge them later.
The first duel was a warm up. A battle with someone unnamed. He moved from his spot at the back of the crowd when he heard the first sounds of duel disks activating. It was too crowded here, they needed to spread out. To that end Kaiba started walking towards the water, trusting that either another duelist would have a similar idea or would notice the tails on his coat head this direction and choose to follow.
no subject
Interesting. Yes, the more he thought about it the more appealing the thought of challenging Kaiba became. For one because not many people in his time could boast to have dueled the Seto Kaiba. For another because he should probably pay him back for calling him a novice - he had promised so much over the com, hadn't he? Kaiba may be a big fish for a first round opponent, but certainly not more than he could chew, in Crow's opinion at least.
Quietly he followed the taller duelist towards the water, grinning even more predatory than before as he decided to call out and make himself be noticed.
"Looking for someone, Kaiba?"
no subject
He spun around to face Crow, his coat catching a wind coming off of the water perfectly. He didn't recognize him instantly as they had only communicated briefly over the comm. At that time, he'd decided this duelist wasn't worth it and hadn't bothered to remember him.
"A respectable duelist," Kaiba responded tauntingly. "There doesn't seem to be one around here."

"So you keep saying. Care to let me prove you wrong?"

Alastair vs. Kiryu
It was a gorgeous day to be dueling. Unseasonably warm, in the 70's, as it had been the last day or so. Alastair had spent much of his free time at home (in between checking up on Bakura) down in the garage, cleaning and tuning his motorcycle after its winter's nap, so it was in prime condition today. He gunned the engine and tore through the dispersing crowd, scattering newbies on his way closer to the water. He picked a good spot and screeched to a stop, the tails of his favorite gray trenchcoat swishing around him like a cloak and falling over the back of the seat. His bootleg duel disk was on his left arm, poised and ready, as he sat astride the red Ducati in wait for a worthy challenger.
no subject
Being early had it's advantages too. He could watch everyone else arrive and see just who would be around. His attention caught on Crow especially, but he wanted to save that duel for later. Let Crow worry about the possibly of facing his Earthbound God for a while. He wasn't about to tell his old friend he couldn't actually do anything with it here.
He listened to Kaiba's little speech with only passing attention. Kaiba wasn't nearly as interesting as Alastair. He watched Alastair's stunt with a faint smile and headed over, cape billowing out a bit behind him.
"Showing off?" he teased once he was close enough.
no subject
He tilted his head slightly, assessing Kiryu. For all their time together, as friends and other things, even battling beside each other, they hadn't yet actually faced each other in a serious duel. Alastair had his eyes on a bigger prize, but he wanted a challenge to get him warmed up, not some optimistic newb. "What do you think?" he offered. "Got your eye on anyone for the first round, yet?"
no subject
He smirked back at Alastair, activating his duel Disk. "Think you can satisfy me?"

Juudai VS Johan
He couldn't stop grinning the whole time as he practically dashed down the street, looking for anyone with a duel disk on hand. Cheesy as the opening recording was, he couldn't help but feel stoked by how nostalgic it sounded. Somehow, it just made the flame within him burn even hotter as he scouted for an eligible opponent.
Re: Juudai VS Johan
His family was ready to do anything and everything they could to help him, of course, so all of them were keeping their eyes out for anyone who might be suitable.
It wasn't that surprising, either, when Ruby Carbuncle sounded the familiar trill, and Johan caught sight of an even more familiar head of hair. "Yo, Juudai!" he called out, waving towards his friend.

Billy vs. Aki
On the way to her duel, one of the kids passing by with a big cotton candy mound had asked where her parents were. This put her in a not-so-good mood, and put the kid on the ground several yards away with several thorn cuts on his arm and face and his snack on the ground. She walked away as the kid started crying for his mom and dad. Just like she cried and no one back home answered.
So Aki entered the area, looking sullen and upset, waiting for her opponent to show up.

His eyes lingered on a little kid, holding a duel disk. You had to be kidding him. He walked over to the girl, looking at her. "Are you Aki?"

Bakura vs Ruka
He had been worried about the tournament since Kaiba had announced it. Tournaments never went well for him, something always went horribly wrong. And with the Ring's Voice in the City...
So when Safeguard hadn't met him as he had said he would, Bakura assumed the worst. Something else horrible must have happened to his friend. The fear was all but confirmed when his attempt to contact him on the network went unanswered. Not good, not good, not good!
Calm down, calm down, if something had happened, Vector would have posted something, right? Right. Maybe he just forgot his communicator. Or it wasn't working. Or he was just in the shower or something. Duel a round, and if he still hasn't shown or responded...
He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. He could do this... Just because something horrible had happened every other tournament he had been present for didn't mean that something horrible would happen at this one....
Right?
/THE LATEST
Her heart was aching, but, just like a month before, she knew there was a more important reason for her to be here. If Aki, as vulnerable and as volatile as she was, was competing, Ruka needed to stay close as possible in case something happened. If she wanted to save this Aki from becoming that closed-off woman, Ruka would have to shield that girl's heart from harm, and keep the doors to that heart propped open until she could keep them open on her own.
Determined to meet Aki head-on when the time came, Ruka latched her customized duel disk to her wrist during Kaiba's speech, wondering who she'd have to face along the way.
ppsh, only 4 days. Could be worse :)
He paused, spotting a familiar hair in the crowd and gave a wave. "Ruka-chan!" he called, putting on his best 'nothing's wrong' face as he smiled.
>>
"Ryou!" she greeted pleasantly once in range, though her eyes were quickly set to the task of checking him over. Though they were not terribly close friends who spoke often, she worried for him, especially after these past few days. "You're competing, too?"
