DUEL MONSTERS TOURNAMENT ♠ ROUND 1
WHO: ANYONE AND EVERYONE
WHERE: Central Park and Harbor
WHEN: Saturday March, 20th early afternoon
WARNING: Swearing and card games
SUMMARY: Round 1 of the duel monster's tournament.
FORMAT: Whatever you want!
Months of planning and recreating an empire from the ground up was finally reaching its climax. Fireworks shot into the sky as the workers ran out of the way trying to avoid the large screen to which the firework stands were attached. If there was still anyone who had not heard that a Duel Monsters Tournament was being held in the city, the sights and sounds quickly informed them.
The same set up was found in the two locations. One at the center of Central Park and the other stretched next to the water by the harbor. The rules the duelists had been given told them where to meet and when to be sure they would be there for the beginning. Since Kaiba couldn’t be in two places at once, especially as he had his own duel to prepare for, a video had been pre-recorded to start the event. The screens turned on at the same time, the KaibaCorp logo flashing across the screen. It disappears to show a montage of duels fought by different monsters. Those who are paying close attention may even notice cards that Kaiba could have only found out about in the City. The montage ends with a Blue Eyes White Dragon destroying everything in its path and causing the screen to fade to white.
The blank screen suddenly changes again to a video of Kaiba. “Welcome to this City’s first chance at a Duel Monster’s Tournament!” it started. “You have had plenty of time to prepare, and now it’s time to show exactly what you can do. At the end of this announcement the tournament will officially start.
“Find your opponent and duel! The winner will go on to the next round. The loser can go home. You have all been given copies of the rules. Any cheating will be punished.”
The Kaiba in the video paused, emphasing a big-brother idea about how cheating would be caught and punished. The look changed into a smirk as he threw his hand forward and dramatically proclaimed,
“Game Start!”
(Make your own threads here for your individual duels. You can log as much of the action as you want. Remember you need to PM me with the winner of each duel before Sunday 11pm CST (whether or not the log is finished). If I don’t have a winner I will proclaim one for you to keep things moving. In case you've forgotten the brackets are here)

The other Fire monsters on the field were solely there to boost the Gorlag up to 2500, even if they had minor effects of their own. They were also too weak - there was only one that could take out Kiryu's last monster. "Gorlag, attack his Infernity Guardian!"

"Fine, then. There's nothing else I can do, so I end my turn."

Kiryu hardly glanced at the card he drew before slipping it into a Spell/Trap slot. If he didn't get another monster soon...
"I set one card face down. Infernity Guardian attacks Tenkabito Shien."

Alastair slapped it onto the duel disk. "I summon Gaia Soul, the Combustable Collective." A blobby-looking ball of fire rose up on the field, with 2000 attack points. He couldn't attack this round thanks to the trap card on top of Infernity Guardian's effect, but that was fine for now. "And I switch Flame Spirit Ignis into defense mode. End turn!"

"I play a monster in defense position. End turn."

He hardly looked pleased by the card in his hand. Another one he couldn't use without his God. He never really expected his God to quickly find its way to the top of his deck--that was what his dragon's effect was for, but the cards that went with it didn't need to be here either.
"I'll set one card face down and Infernity Guardian will attack Flame Spirit Ignis."

Alastair was almost right; he would love to draw his God right now. But it wasn't quite his ace, not in this deck. Too bad his ace was sitting in his extra deck where he couldn't get at it...

"Infernity Revenger's effect only activates in the Graveyard. Nothing to worry about with him."

Despite them being in a near dead-heat for so many turns, Alastair was surprised that the people watching their duel hadn't wandered away out of boredom. They seemed to be sticking around - maybe because they were so close and at stalemate. It wasn't over in a flash like other duels around the pier. Or were they scoffing at the guy with four monsters not being able to take out the single one facing him?

The monster popped out of his graveyard, and he slipped it into his back pocket. Back to four monsters, though one was Dark and not Fire. He still couldn't attack, so he had to, "...end turn."

He paused, going over his other cards in his mind. he could still hold on to this... "And I end my turn."
no subject
"Hey. Kyosuke." His duel-disk arm lowered slowly. "Are you really giving me everything you've got? I could win on this next turn, you know."

He didn't need to activate the trap, now that Kiryu was holding a card. "Gorlag, attack that Infernity Guardian!"
no subject
"Trap card, open! Rope of Life!" Kiryu slipped the card in his hand into the Graveyard. "When one of my monsters is destroyed, I can discard my hand to Special Summon it back from the Graveyard, and it gains 800 attack points."
no subject
"So you stopped me this turn. Think you can get hold me off one more round?" he teased. He'd been behaving himself up till now, but there really wasn't anything stopping him from trash-talking. Even if he did like and respect Kiryu more than most people in the City. "I've got moves up my sleeve you've never even seen before."
