DUEL MONSTERS TOURNAMENT ♠ ROUND 1
WHO: ANYONE AND EVERYONE
WHERE: Central Park and Harbor
WHEN: Saturday March, 20th early afternoon
WARNING: Swearing and card games
SUMMARY: Round 1 of the duel monster's tournament.
FORMAT: Whatever you want!
Months of planning and recreating an empire from the ground up was finally reaching its climax. Fireworks shot into the sky as the workers ran out of the way trying to avoid the large screen to which the firework stands were attached. If there was still anyone who had not heard that a Duel Monsters Tournament was being held in the city, the sights and sounds quickly informed them.
The same set up was found in the two locations. One at the center of Central Park and the other stretched next to the water by the harbor. The rules the duelists had been given told them where to meet and when to be sure they would be there for the beginning. Since Kaiba couldn’t be in two places at once, especially as he had his own duel to prepare for, a video had been pre-recorded to start the event. The screens turned on at the same time, the KaibaCorp logo flashing across the screen. It disappears to show a montage of duels fought by different monsters. Those who are paying close attention may even notice cards that Kaiba could have only found out about in the City. The montage ends with a Blue Eyes White Dragon destroying everything in its path and causing the screen to fade to white.
The blank screen suddenly changes again to a video of Kaiba. “Welcome to this City’s first chance at a Duel Monster’s Tournament!” it started. “You have had plenty of time to prepare, and now it’s time to show exactly what you can do. At the end of this announcement the tournament will officially start.
“Find your opponent and duel! The winner will go on to the next round. The loser can go home. You have all been given copies of the rules. Any cheating will be punished.”
The Kaiba in the video paused, emphasing a big-brother idea about how cheating would be caught and punished. The look changed into a smirk as he threw his hand forward and dramatically proclaimed,
“Game Start!”
(Make your own threads here for your individual duels. You can log as much of the action as you want. Remember you need to PM me with the winner of each duel before Sunday 11pm CST (whether or not the log is finished). If I don’t have a winner I will proclaim one for you to keep things moving. In case you've forgotten the brackets are here)

"I play Ancient City-Rainbow Ruins!" His beautiful field spell came into existence around them, the rainbow shimmering over Johan's own head. With two Gem Beasts in the spell and trap zone, he would be able to halve his battle damage.
"Turn end." Sadly, he couldn't attack Neos, not just yet. But soon. Perhaps sooner than Juudai would like.
no subject
Oh, that was a good draw. He'd be saving that one for later, definitely. In the meantime... "I activate my trap, Limit Reverse! From the graveyard, I summon Flare Scarab!"
With five total spell/trap cards on Johan's field, Flare Scarab was elevated to 2500 this time around, equal to Neos' power.
"Flare Scarab attacks Cobalt Eagle! Then, Neos attacks directly!"
no subject
"Cobalt Eagle goes to the graveyard!" He could've kept him on the field in the spell and trap zone, but that would have meant he couldn't do this. "And I activate Gem Set! When Cobalt Eagle goes to the graveyard, I can set another Gem Beast from my deck into the spell and trap zone!"
He grinned as Amethyst Cat joined them, fulfilling the requirement of seven. But that wasn't all. As Neos drew closer, a thin, transparent shield not of Johan's power's devising leapt up between them. "Not to mention, that thanks to Gem Set, I don't take any battle damage this turn."

"All seven of them together, on my field or in the graveyard. I summon Rainbow Dragon!" He tilted his head back as he held the card up high over his head, excitement running all through his veins as seven shades of light converged, then spun themselves into the mighty Ultimate Gem God.
If he really wanted to, he could do massive damage against Juudai just by sending the Gem Beasts on the field to the graveyard, to increase Rainbow Dragon's attack. If this duel were to settle the fate of the world, he would've done it. But since it wasn't...
"First, Amethyst Cat direct attacks you!" That would shave off a neat six hundred. The pale violet beast crouched down, then leaped over Juudai's monsters to land on him and scratch his face hard with Amethyst Nail.
Now, Flare Scarab or Neos? Flare Scarab could be more annoying than Neos, given how he drew power from the Spell and Trap cards on Johan's side of the field: even the Gem Beasts that were there. It would be better to get him out of the way and deal with Neos next turn.
"Rainbow Dragon! Attack Flare Scarab!"
no subject
"Draw!" He smirked suggestively at his draw, almost wanting to laugh, but managing to keep from doing so. It wasn't surprising, all things considered.
"Sorry, Johan, but I think it's time to level this game out a little. Activate spell card, Wrath of Neos! By returning Neos to the deck, I can destroy all cards on the field!!"
He'd be completely defenseless after this turn was over, but at least it would take Johan some time to rebuild his offense again. As Rainbow Dragon and the set Gem Beasts detonated, as well as the rest of his own field, a plume of smoke wafted up from the destruction.
"Turn end!" Juudai seemed proud of himself, almost silently taunting Johan to keep trying if he really wanted to win.
no subject
Yes, Juudai was quite proud of himself. Johan determined that he would make him regret that.
"I draw! Pot of Greed, and I draw again!" Ohh, and look what he had now. His eyes gleamed brightly as he displayed Monster Reincarnation. "I discard a card from my hand," he said, setting Gem Flood into the graveyard, "and return a monster card from my graveyard to my hand. I summon Sapphire Pegasus! And by his effect, I set Amber Mammoth in the spell and trap zone!"
He narrowed his eyes for a moment. "Sapphire Pegasus! Attack Juudai directly! Sapphire Horn!"
At once, Johan! Sapphire Pegasus' wings beat, taking him up into the air. He tossed his head back, then aimed his horn at Juudai, blasting him with 1800 points of damage before Sapphire settled back down.
"I set one card face-down and end my turn," Johan finished, now having no cards in his hand at all. Oh, but what a trump card he had waiting now...
no subject
"Draw!" Well, it would do for this situation, considering he couldn't use the other card in his hand right now. "I set a card and end my turn!"
no subject
"Sapphire Pegasus! Attack him directly again!" There were so many options on what this could be. Johan hoped it would be interesting.
no subject
He beamed triumphantly. "Come! Yubel!"
She appeared on the field with her arms crossed, leathery wings spread wide behind her, and sporting an unreadable heterochromatic stare, directed at Johan. While it wasn't quite a glare, it was easy to tell she meant business.
Luckily, it was Johan's turn still until he declared it over, so he wouldn't have to pay her cost until the end of next turn.
no subject
For a moment, everything blurred, and he thought he was somewhere else, but Yubel still faced him-was he seeing double? There were two of them...
Then he shook himself and looked down at the card in his hand. If he ...
No. It wouldn't be right. Not like that. He would not win at that price.
"I activate my trap card! Rainbow Gravity! With all seven Gem Beasts still on my field or in the graveyard, I can summon Rainbow Dragon sleeping in the grave!"
With a proud roar his greatest jewel arose once more and stood before him, staring at Yubel from across the field. "Turn end."
no subject
Well, whatever. The chance was over with now; if he really wanted to, he could regret it later.
"My turn, draw!" If he didn't draw a summonable monster or a spell to summon one this turn, he was done for. Luckily, that wasn't the case. "I summon Sangan, and then end my turn! Sangan is used for Yubel's sacrifice, and upon leaving the field, its effect activates!"
The fiendish-looking fuzzball dove into his deck briefly and pulled out a card, adding it to his hand before vanishing to the graveyard. He turned it around to show Johan. "I add Phantom of Chaos to my hand!"
no subject
He drew and played E-Force at once. "With E-Force, I Special Summon Amber Mammoth from the spell and trap zone! Turn end!" He couldn't do much else, not unless Juudai either couldn't keep up Yubel's cost, or set out another monster for him to attack.
no subject
no subject
No. Not against Yubel, at any rate. Any other monster Juudai had, he would consider it more seriously. But not against Yubel.
no subject
no subject
"I set one card facedown and end my turn." He flashed Juudai one of his best "come and get it" grins, daring the other to attack now.
no subject
Juudai studied his hand long and hard. His eyes darted to Yubel until they softened considerably. "I play Pot of Avarice, returning five monster cards to the deck to draw two cards!"
Flare Scarab, Sangan, Prisma, Air Neos, and Glow Neos returned to their respective decks, and Juudai drew a much-needed two cards.
"I set a monster and a reverse card. Turn end!"
It might have seemed like he was stalling further, but after this turn, that hopefully wouldn't be the case. He looked at Johan, the fire back in his eyes after making his move, when before he'd been obviously getting bored with the stalemate. He hoped that would tip him off that something was about to happen, and not to give up on the whole duel so soon.
no subject
Juudai wasn't giving up, Johan knew him better than that. So he had something in mind, and it probably had something to do with the cards he'd played.
All right. Johan grinned even more when he saw what card he'd drawn. "I play M-Force, increasing Amber Mammoth's attack by five hundred, and when he attacks your defense monster, you'll take damage equal to the difference in Amber's attack and your monster's defense! Amber Mammoth! Amber Stomp!"
And Amber stomped. Johan didn't believe that he had the duel won. Not with that facedown still on Juudai's side of the field. But what could it be?
Not that it mattered. Juudai could actually be bluffing him. Which was why once Amber Mammoth stomped, Johan gave one more command. Depending on what Juudai was plotting, this could be the duel...
"Rainbow Dragon! Attack Juudai directly!"
no subject
He allowed the first attack to go through, taking the piercing hit for 1600 damage, and revealed his set. "My set was Morphing Jar! We both discard our hands and draw five!"
Once it had been done, Morphing Jar was destroyed, and Rainbow Dragon's attack was imminent, therefore... "Trap, activate! Negate Attack!"
no subject
With the Battle Phase over, Johan moved into the second Main Phase. "I use E-Force to Special Summon Sapphire Pegasus from the spell and trap zone! By Sapphire's effect, I set a Gem Beast there from the graveyard, and I choose Topaz Tiger!"
The topaz gem faded into existence there, but Johan wasn't done yet. "Now, I play Monster Reborn, and Special Summon Ruby Carbuncle from the graveyard. By her effect, I Special Summon Topaz Tiger!
Ruby held her tail up high, and a beam of light struck forth, hitting the topaz gem. Topaz Tiger appeared in the monster zone, glad to be back in business. No one had enjoyed not being able to help Johan.
Sapphire Pegasus, Topaz Tiger, Amber Mammoth, Ruby Carbuncle, and Rainbow Dragon all ranged on Johan's side, staring Juudai down. Amethyst Cat still slept in her gem, but her spirits, as well as that of Cobalt Eagle and Emerald Turtle, was there supporting Johan.
"Turn end."
no subject
"Draw! I play the spell card, Ancient Rules, which allows me to special summon a level 5 or higher monster from my hand! Return, Neos!"
The alien warrior leapt back onto Juudai's field, and then he started to take a card from his hand with an almost downright mischievous grin. "Time to turn the tables! Now, I activate the ultimate fusion power from my hand by discarding one card! Super Fusion!!"
Rainbow Dragon started to be pulled into the vortex that appeared overhead, crackling with jolts of power, along with Neos on his own field.
"Awaken! Rainbow Neos!!"
It was a sight that arose various emotions in his heart, mostly pride; it was living spiritual proof of their bond, and it almost made him feel a little guilty to use it against him.
"Since Ancient Rules was a special summon, I'll normal summon the Sangan I drew, and use it to activate Neos' effect this turn! By sending it to the graveyard, I return all monsters you control to the deck! Go, Rainbow Neos! Beyond the Rainbowhole!"
Now he'd have both Yubel and the Gem Beasts a little peeved at him, but he could deal with their wrath later on... he hoped. "And since Sangan's effect activates once it leaves the field, I add Grand Mole to my hand!"
Finally, the field was clear, and he had a direct shot at Johan. It wouldn't finish him this turn, so he had one more chance to strike back. "Rainbow Neos attacks directly! Rainbow Flare Stream!!"
no subject
Not too much, anyway.
Of course, that was also before Rainbow Neos's attack struck him dead on, sending him flying backwards. His head spun as he struck the ground and everything went black for a moment. He shook his head slowly, then pushed himself back up, a bit of a grin on his face now.
"I still can't believe our monsters can create something like that," he said, brushing himself off. "It's amazing."
That had ended Juudai's turn, and as Johan's head slowly cleared from the attack, he drew his own card. He had four now. G-Force, Gem Split, Gem Flash, and Ruby Carbuncle.
I could stall and bluff. I could get Rainbow Dragon back somehow, I'm sure of it. But there's no need. It would just drag this out more, and he's already won.
He glanced down at his hand once more and nodded, smiling. "Come out, Ruby Carbuncle!" His favorite among the Gem Beasts, the sister of his heart, leaped up and stood before him fiercely, not caring that Rainbow Neos was orders of magnitude larger than she was. "Turn end."
Winner: Juudai, FINALLY
After drawing, he kept staring for a moment before making the final move. "Rainbow Neos attacks Ruby Carbuncle!"
Another flash of light refracted in every fathomable shade of the color spectrum under the sun, and it was over. Juudai hardly waited for the massive hologram to fade before running to Johan's side.
There was something he wanted to find out.
"Johan!"
