WHO: Scott Summers and Megan Frost-Summers
WHERE: The Institute.
WHEN: Sunday evening.
WARNINGS: Sadness.
SUMMARY: Emma has left and Scott goes to tell Megan.

She had disappeared right in front of him. After being gone on a mission for him she had just come back and they were together not even an hour before she disappeared right in front of him. At first he thought she had been kidnapped, but then he realized that it had been the Porter, taking her home. Part of him was glad she was back where she belonged, but he missed her.

His first order of business would be to tell Megan that her mother was gone. They hadn't even really been able to talk, and now Emma was gone. Scott never had good luck with keeping a family together, at least not for long. But the fact that Rachel and Megan were here would help make the loss of Emma a bit better.

Standing outside Megan's door, Scott knocked.

Megan was still working on getting used to this place and all the different things she felt that went along with being here. So many people she knew as being dead were alive here and she wasn't really sure if she had a place with any of them. But she kept trying to think of it as a really great opportunity rather than something to be sad or afraid of.

She hadn't planned on going out or really talking to anyone that evening so when Scott knocked she was just sitting on her bed reading a book.

"Come in!"

"Hey," Scott said, smiling at his daughter as he pushed the door open and stepped inside. Seeing her there, sitting like that reminded him so much of Emma.

"How are you doing?" he asked, not really sure how to break the news to her that her mother, whom she really didn't get a chance to meet, had left.

"Hi!" Megan said, giving him a lopsided smile in return. She dog-eared the page she was reading in her book and placed it down next to her.

"I'm doing good thanks," she said, cheerfully. "Everything okay?"

"Not exactly," Scott said, deciding not to blunt what was he was about to say. Besides, she was probably used to that sort of thing coming from him by now.

"Your mother left, she's been Ported out," she said, sitting down on the bed next to her.

"Oh..." Megan replied, looking down. She hadn't really gotten a chance to even speak with her mom while she was here and now she was gone.

They didn't see each other much anymore back home, she had her own life now and her own responsibilities to take care of. But that didn't mean that she didn't still respect and care about her mom a lot. Knowing that she'd been here and that they hadn't even gotten a chance to speak was kind of painful for her. It was made worse by the fact that she was disappointed in herself for not even sensing her mother's disappearance.

"Well...I guess that's good...she's back in your home and stuff..."

Scott reached out and put an arm around Megan's shoulders. While he hadn't know her too long, he'd been around students enough to feel comfortable to offer sympathy, especially to someone who was his daughter.

"I'm sorry you didn't get to spend any time with her," he said.

Megan forced a smile knowing that her dad probably hurt too without her mom here. She didn't want to add to that by being sad herself.

"It's okay. It would have been weird to meet her younger anyway," she said.

"We'll both get to see her again when we go back home," Scott said, giving her a small hug. "Or if she comes back. I hope she just doesn't come back as a teenager again."

"That's true. We will..." Megan said, smiling again, the brave act was an act she was used to putting on. "That'd be really weird to see her younger than me."

"But you'd get to boss her around," Scott said, giving her a bit of a smirk. "And train her. There would be that."

"I don't think anyone could boss mom around at any age," Megan said, laughing. "The training thing would be fun though. I wouldn't be as hard on her as she is on me."

"You'd be surprised," he said, smirking just a bit. Emma at that age was very different from Emma as an adult.

"But I'm sure she was hard on you because she loved you. It's a parent thing."

"That might have been fun then," she said, laughing. It'd certainly be a drastic change to boss her mom around rather than have her mom boss her around.

"She was hard on me because she had to be. She had to teach me to use my abilities to protect myself. Our world doesn't really like us much."

"I'm sorry that the world still hates us," Scott said, genuinely sad that after all the years and all their work, it was still like that.

"When you're a parent all you want to do is make the world a better place for your kids."

"It's not your fault, you do the best you can," Megan said, smiling. "She tried to protect us. She was so angry that...I dunno I guess she was your first wife or something, anyway mom was really angry that she was causing us to have nightmares and stuff. She took as away from the Institute because she didn't think it was safe. But we got captured anyway so I guess it wasn't that much help. At least we weren't there during the attack."

"Jean did all that?" Scott asked, somewhat puzzled by that. All of the deaths and destruction being her fault didn't sound like her. Rather, it sounded like the Dark Phoenix.

"Uh no. Not Rachel's mom. Or maybe that part was her. I'm not really sure. Madelyne was the one that attacked the school," Megan said, frowning.

"Maddie? Christ, doesn't anyone ever stay dead," Scott said, shaking his head. It seemed like even 20 years in the future that woman was causing a hell of a lot of trouble.

"I think that was her name. I don't know she came with Warskrulls impersonating other past enemies of the X-Men but she wasn't a Warskrull like them," Megan replied, shrugging. It was a long time ago and she'd only gotten the details years later through second hand sources so she wasn't fully comfortable with saying much. "I just remember having really bad nightmares and mom being really upset. Alex did too."
