[ closed log ] [ all the lonely people ]
WHO: Pepper and Cole
WHERE: Outside the Porter building
WHEN: Backdated to Monday
WARNINGS: sob Tony sob
SUMMARY: Pepper is back! Tony is gone. Cole gets to tell her. REACTION.
FORMAT: quicklog
[ Pepper runs her fingers through her hair and straightens her suit for what has to be the tenth time. The pit of her stomach is still connected to the nauseous knot in her throat, two days' worth of overcaffeination and worry about her husband and employer layered unhappily over this startling new development.
She hates that her reaction to stepping out of the Porter wasn't fear or anxiety or dread. Just annoyance, stress, and a dull sensation of great, this again.
In her life, it's always been one thing after the other. Combing her fingers through her hair again, she scrunches her eyes shut against her growing headache.
Think, Pep. Tony's still here. Everything is going to be okay. ]

Either way, he was on patrol, walking around, mind somewhat blank. Cool superpowers came with completely stupid limits, such as not being able to drive a patrol car. Or any kind of car for that matter, seeing as any car he tried to sit in would explode.
Then he spots someone familiar in the distance.
... Whoah, wait.
He approaches closer. Now it's REALLY familiar.
Cole doesn't say anything quite yet, but he's coming
he's coming, he's coming.no subject
Pepper rubs her hands over her eyes, pulling in a deep breath.
Contact Tony. She has to---has to contact Tony. Fumbling with the comm device, she tries to call up his number. Her memories are sluggish, honey-thick and muddled. Memories of home and buried memories from here are fighting for importance as more and more of what she's forgotten rises ]

[The name is said quiet at first, not really sure if it is her. As he approach, though, soon enough right next to her, he's more certain.]
Pepper.

Cole?
no subject
That's me.

Is this where I go 'surprise'? I mean, I would, but it's as much of a surprise for me as for you.

He was being serious, but he was honestly suprised she even remembered him.]
I won't get too upset if you don't, trust me.
[pause.]
... Hi.
[Well, what do you even say?]
Besides what I... can figure, are you okay?
[Cole was referring to any BODILY harm, compared to those "god dammit, I'm back here"s he could take a guess at.]

Hi.
[ she scrubs at her face again ]
I'm fine. A little disoriented, but fine. What...time is it? What month is it? I've lost time and this doesn't look like December.

March 29th, 2010--almost April.
no subject
I've been gone for months.
Oh, god. [ Pepper already has her comm device out and is typing madly ] Tell me what I've missed. Tell me---has Tony's number changed? I need to get to the office. Knowing Tony, he's still in.

[Then he stiffens at the mention of Tony. Tony. Of course she's got to mention Tony.]
...

Pepper, there--there's something you need to know.

[ oh dear, calling again. A wrinkle of worry creases between her brows.
Voicemail.
She swears softly under her breath ]
no subject
It's about Tony.
no subject
What is that supposed to mean?
no subject
Tony's dead.
no subject
No.
I'm sorry, this is the only "sad' icon I have.
