The door shuddered as he slammed against it with his shoulder and side, claws tearing at the wood, forcing splinters up into the rough paw pads. Falling back, he paced from one end to the other, eyes far too human constantly on the door, snarling as he left red prints across the concrete floor. Another short growl and the there was a dull crack and creak of metal and wood as it threatened to give.

He didn't want to be trapped, the smell of humans in the very walls of this place making him violent, forcing him to tear into himself to sate the hunger. Tired of biting and scratching himself in favor of those above. The metal hinges stretched under the force of his body and he scrambled, clawing and shoving to make them snap, to push the door open. There was a great, low groan and the hinges gave, the door thudding back and down into the grass, freeing him from his self-made prison.

All thoughts of the people above were forgotten as he stepped out into the moonlight, lean muscle moving beneath a layer of thick brown, almost red, and grey fur, the same color and texture as his hair. Large paws left prints in the dirt. Breaking free of the backyard was easier, a long leap over the too low fence as the Rhodesian Ridgeback watched - there was no reason to harm the too friendly canine - and he sniffed the air before disappearing back into the shadows as he ran.

Getting adjusted to living with so many others wasn't going so well with Blackarachnia. So she'd decided a walk would be best. She'd ended up in the park. She always ended up there.

For the longest time she sat on one of the benches and stared up the at the clear night sky. As it got later she finally decided to head back to Autobase. Autobase. She snorted. That was a silly thing to call the apartment but it was fitting.

The femme decided to take the long way back. If she ran into any trouble along the way she could handle it.

[identity profile] borrowyourpower.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
For the past thousand years Blackarachnia had grown accustom to being the hunter. But she also knew what it felt like to be hunted. She stopped in her tracks and looked around, certain there was something there.

After a moment she shook her head and continued her trek, however her senses were on high alert. If only she were still techno-organic. She could easily scan the area for any threat. Then again if she were still herself not much on this planet would be a threat to her.

[identity profile] borrowyourpower.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Blackarachnia saw it too late. If she'd been looking in the right place she could have easily jumped out of the way but she was never that lucky.

The femme hit the ground with a long, threatening hiss. She scrambled to get away. To get back on her feet.

[identity profile] borrowyourpower.livejournal.com 2010-05-12 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
She hissed again and shoved at the beast, trying to get it off of her. If only she could get her legs up under it she thought then she'd be able to throw if off of her.

She also thought that perhaps she could poison it but she could discern where she'd hit flesh if she did attempt to bite.

[identity profile] borrowyourpower.livejournal.com 2010-05-18 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Blackarachnia does her best to get away in that short moment. She kicked and hissed at the beast.

And then she remembered she has webbing. She cursed her human form for panicking. She shot some webbing at the creature, aiming to seal it's mouth or tangle it's legs.

Day or night didn't matter to Geddoe, he would roam the city whenever he felt like it, familiarizing himself with the layout and doing his best to understand the culture and customs by observing. Tonight, particularly, was a good night to be out. A brief discussion over the device with the thing in the machine frustrated him, making him antsy and unsettled and sending him roaming again.

Those long legs and worn boots were used to hiking. Miles would go by before he even looked up to get his bearings sometimes. Geddoe was starting to explore further and further from his home base, and there were fewer vehicles to avoid at night. He liked the residential neighborhoods better anyway, where the houses were dark and quiet and the night air was filled with the scent of blossoming trees. And so he roamed, his good eye adjusting to the dim half-light that permeated the nights of this city.

Josh wasn't exactly out wandering aimlessly around, but he wasn't exactly out patrolling either. Scatty didn't like it when he went out looking for trouble and Josh knew that his abilities and skills didn't exactly lend themselves to everyday crime fighting. Still, it was good to get out and do some scouting at night and get a feel for things.

When he was out and about he spotted what could only be another imPort. Large, muscled, carrying a sword, and dressed in armor from another time definitely screamed "Not from this universe or a got lost at the Ren Faire."

"Hey!" Josh called out, waving a hand to the other man as he checked the road before crossing over to the other side. "You're another imPort, right?"

Geddoe paused under a street lamp, glancing over his left shoulder. Few people talked like that, so he guessed he was the one being addressed. He let the kid approach before responding. "You could say that," he murmured blandly. "Is there something you want?"

[identity profile] reluctantlegend.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, one of those types. Josh hoped this wasn't going to be a repeat of the Mytho incident where the guy only said short, basic sentences and seemed oblivious of social customs. Of course, he could have just thought Josh was an annoying kid.

"Just to introduce myself," he said. "I'm Josh Newman."

The mercenary captain sized him up before responding. "Geddoe," he said simply.

There was a bit of a pause, while his good eye narrowed. "It's late. Some particular reason you're out and about?"

[identity profile] reluctantlegend.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Nice to meet you, Geddoe," Josh said, giving a bit of a smile. The other man was a bit intimidating so it was hard to keep a cheerful expression.

"Just taking a look around. Hey, are you from a time where swords are typical weapons?" he asked.

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2010-04-29 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
The abrupt question made Geddoe blink, vaguely taken aback for a moment. "Time? I don't know. Place, yes." He set a hand on the hilt of Wild Geese, as if subtly protecting it from any potential questions. Young boys and "can I touch it?" were a universal phenomenon, though where Geddoe came from, most boys Josh's age had picked up a sword at least once. In fact, by the looks of him, he had to be about Hugo's age - and Hugo was chieftain of his tribe.

[identity profile] reluctantlegend.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, mine is unusual for my time," Josh said, thumbing over his shoulder to indicate the sword that was strapped there. He would draw it to show the other man but he didn't want the guy to think it a threatening gesture.

"My world is like this one, only without all the people from other dimensions and stuff. Swords are considered outdated, mostly."
trueltning_fury: (don't be stupid)

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2010-04-29 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Geddoe was, actually, interested in the fact that he carried a blade. For all the talk about swords and magic being strange to this world, there were plenty of people popping up around him that knew their way around one or both. His eyebrow twitched. "Do you know how to use it?" he asked, slightly skeptical. "And use it well."

[identity profile] reluctantlegend.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
"I know how to use it," Josh said with a nod. He had come a long, long way in learning how to use it the past few months, but he also knew he had a long way to go. As Scatty had shown him, it was a discipline that you could spend several lifetimes mastering.

"But I don't know about well. I'm still learning, really."

Josh didn't add that with Clarent, sometimes that didn't make any difference and the sword did the work itself.

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2010-04-29 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Mm." Humble and realistic. Geddoe could appreciate that. He nodded slowly. "Don't rush it. It's the hasty ones who end up getting killed first."

Somewhere a block or two over, a police siren whooped to break the otherwise quiet night. Unused to the sound, Geddoe jumped a bit, his hand tightening on the sword's hilt. But there was nothing immediately in their vicinity that looked or sounded like trouble, so he relaxed and cursed himself inwardly for startling like that.

[identity profile] reluctantlegend.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, back home it's kind of a learn or die type of situation," Josh confessed. Granted, Scatty and Flammel were there to protect him, but he wasn't sure how much he trusted Flammel and Scatty couldn't always be there.

When the siren sounded and the other man jumped a bit, Josh's hand automatically went to his sword, just in case. It was weird to think how is reflexes had changed in the last few months.

"But I have a really good teacher, she really knows what she's doing."

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2010-04-30 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Geddoe gave another grunt, vaguely curious at a world where swords were outdated and yet that necessary to learn to use. "I see. Your teacher is here, or...?"

The growl was a far more familiar sound, to a man who spent a good part of his life living off the land in survival situations. Rather than startle this time, his right hand went to Wild Geese's hilt and he whipped around sharply, squinting into the darkness. "There's something there," he said in a low, dangerous tone.

[identity profile] reluctantlegend.livejournal.com 2010-05-01 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, she's here in the-"

As soon as Josh heard the growl, he drew out Clarent and went into a defensive stance with a speed and fluidity that would have made Scathach proud.

"What the hell was that?" he asked.

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2010-05-02 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Wild Geese whispered from its scabbard, and Geddoe put himself ahead of the kid out of instinct. "Wolf..." he said, with some questioning inflection. "I didn't know any would come into a city like this..."

He didn't notice much difference at the moment. It was dark, and he had but one eye. It looked very much like a wolf he was used to - a Shadow Dog, much larger and meaner than base mountain wolves. Geddoe didn't glance back at Josh but spoke over his shoulder. "Looks like you're going to get a chance to show me how you use that thing, after all."

[identity profile] reluctantlegend.livejournal.com 2010-05-02 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"That is a seriously big wolf," Josh said, sidestepping to the big man's left side and starting to circle the wolf. He wondered how something like that got so far into the City.

"Maybe it escaped from the zoo or something like that."

no worries

[identity profile] reluctantlegend.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
If Josh hadn't been training against someone like Scatty, he might have been dead. Fortunately, Josh is used to dealing with people who were super-humanly fast.

Josh sprung to his left and rolled, doing is best to keep his sword between him and the wolf. Even so, he might not be getting out of this uninjured.

hey, I was gone too

[personal profile] trueltning_fury 2010-05-11 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
As a fighter, Geddoe was not agile but he could be fast if needed. He lunged sideways, attempting to get between the wolf and the boy before any damage could be done. It was his off side, though, necessitating some serious footwork to bring his sword to bear. Realizing he wasn't going to get between them, Geddoe changed tactic at the last second and charged the wolf directly, swinging Wild Geese in low and fast from his right.

Full moon nights were just too beautiful to pass up. Hiruma didn't patrol as much any more, but he still flew every single night. It was freedom and it was glory and it was one of the best damn feelings ever. Wind in his fur, the smells of the City in his nose and the moonlight reflecting off the windows of the tall buildings of the urban jungle.

But it was time for a break. Flying was extremely energy dependent, and Hiruma needed to keep his vigor up to stay in the air. This time he alighted on a building in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and took an apple from the sachel at his side. He could (and did) eat the whole thing in one bite. But a human scream, a curious sound and a very strange smell assaulted his senses. He turned his ears like radar dishes, finding the source of the noise; the street below. A woman had barely managed to dive out of the way of... a wolf?

No, that wasn't just a wolf. A normal human would think so. But a bat? Could smell the difference. This wolf was not like Saitou's wolf form, natural and earthy in scent. This creature was somehow eldritch, eerie, unnatural.

He watched the wolf, then looked up at the sky. Full moon, of course. And with George gone... it could only be one person. A toothy smile spread across his maw and the bat took off after the wolf, keeping him within sight by running along the edges of the buildings and gliding from roof top to roof top. A little more observation... but it seemed like Ruffles would want to know about this little... mishap.
