WHO: [livejournal.com profile] soonillbe and [livejournal.com profile] godisachild
WHERE: Awesome Base
WHEN: Saturday afternoon (5/8)
WARNINGS: a-nope
SUMMARY: Pokey swings by the Awesome Base for a visit. Ness is there. Stuff happens.
FORMAT: paragraphs are really neat

Ness was crouched on the floor of his bedroom, carefully constructing the interior of the model version of his house. It was pretty small, so it was taking him a long time to get it right.

The rest of the model now featured streets (with real paving) and Ness had even gone ahead and sculpted Giant Step.

He was pretty focused on his work, but the door to his room was open.

Pokey had swung by to visit Awesome Force for a little while. The fact that he actually had people to visit was so entirely new, he almost didn't know how to react to it. It was somewhere between pleasant and uncomfortable. He didn't dislike it in the least but...it was something he'd have to get used to.

He was heading up to see Ness and was about to enter entirely, but stopped and stepped back a little when he saw him building the model. He thought for a moment before taking a few small steps in, trying to get a better look without attracting the other boy's attention.

Pokey tilted his head as he looked. He was impressed by the detail Ness was able to muster. At the same time...he actually felt a little nostalgic, he supposed. And so, for a few minutes, he just stood there until a small grin drew across his face and he proclaimed,

"I knew it!"

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Pokey utterly disregarded Ness' claim, making a small sound of disbelief. "Yeah, sure, whatever. Lemme get a better look."

The chubbier boy sat beside his friend, glancing at the house. He tilted his head a little, his voice taking a quizzical tone. "I'm impressed. I wouldn't have thought you were very good at building junk, but it looks a lot like our neighborhood."

He thinks for a moment before saying, "Has anything changed about the neighborhood? Since I've been gone?"

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
"From what I can remember, yeah."

And he still remembers it. Even after all this time, every little nook and cranny of the neighborhood, he remembers it. He's amazed that Ness even noticed the little crooked slant to the steps on his house.

That he even noticed the....

Pokey pauses for a moment before asking, "...You really do miss it, don't you?"

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
"You actually bought it?" Pokey asked, gawking. "How stupid are you? Why would you buy that old piece of crap, and how many steps are missing on the front porch to it?"

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmhm." Pokey responded, looking thoughtfully at the model.

"Y'know...I kinda miss home too. But just a little."

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
"I hate most of it, yeah." Pokey shrugged as he talked. "But that doesn't mean there are small things that don't keep coming to mind. Like at summer when Picky and I'd go to Giant Step and look out at the coast, or the times you and I'd go and mess around the town, or throwing rocks at that crappy old house you got suckered into buying. ...And if I do go back, yeah, I'm going to keep throwing rocks at that house, sorry."

He scratched his head for a minute before looking away. "There's not much but...for a few seconds, occasionally, I'd like to be there again."

He just looked at his friend for a moment, unsure what to really say. He wasn't surprised Ness was homesick, even if he himself wasn't, not really. But he had little idea of how to deal with homesickness because of that. He was anxious to say anything, because he didn't know if it'd be right.

"...You know, I bet it'll still be there, exactly like it was when you get back. And everyone'll be super happy to see you. They love you there, after all."

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Do I think you..." Pokey said. The trumpet guy? He'd actually nearly forgotten about that guy, but he remembered the moment Ness brought him up. "...Yeah, go ahead."

And he sat there for a moment grumpily, trying to puzzle out a way to respond to Ness. "So, I know you miss it a lot, and want to go back, and you will, but...don't you think it's kinda pointless to just keep missing it and missing it?"

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
What did he mean? Yeah, that was kinda a good question, and he scratched his head a bit more, trying to think. God, why'd he have to suck this much at trying to help people.

"Well, I guess what I mean is...think of this as an extended vacation. Like, you'll get to go back eventually, it's not a question if you will or not but-"

Shaking his head a little, he finally said, "Man...I suck at this. I-look, is there anything I can do to actually help you feel better?"

Of course, he doesn't look at Ness while saying this.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Pokey rolled his eyes, noticing the other boy's smile. Stupid. He wasn't asking him for much, so he didn't need to thank him.

Shrugging, Pokey said, "Yeah, sure. I can't stay for too long though. I'm gonna meet one of the guys teaching me science in a hour or two."

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Pokey shrugged a little as he helped Ness with some of the details on the model. "He's pretty nice. He's teaching me science and stuff, so that's cool too. I don't know his real name, but he has a super cool scientist name."

Of course, Pokey didn't feel the need to alert Ness to the fact that he was working with mad scientists aiming for world conquest Fairly harmless mad scientists bent on world domination, but still. He couldn't imagine the other by seeing just how cool that was or necessarily approving.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Pokey stopped working at that and simply looked at the other boy. "Whatcha' mean?" He asked, narrowing his eyes, "Like the guy would try and cheat me?"

The idea that someone might pull one over him angered him beyond belief. Did Ness know something he didn't about dealing with other scientists?

Aawww, thanks. That means a lot. ^_^

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh." Pokey responded, though he didn't really get it. I mean, he guessed it made sense that a scientist wouldn't be a good cook, considering he'd never tried to cook himself. He had no clue why Ness would bring it up though.

...Maybe there was something else. Maybe Ness did know something, and just wasn't telling him. It was paranoid, but that was something Pokey had always had an inclination towards. Thinking for a moment, he asked, "Hey Ness? You maybe want to come with?"

Only way to tell if Ness knew something he didn't was to test, after all.

[identity profile] godisachild.livejournal.com 2010-05-12 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Pokey shrugged. "Yeah, sure, if you wanna. I don't really care."

But it would be cool for Ness to see what he was doing. And, even if he'd never admit it, it'd be nice to see the other boy cheer up.
