WHERE: Awesome Base
WHEN: Saturday afternoon (5/8)
WARNINGS: a-nope
SUMMARY: Pokey swings by the Awesome Base for a visit. Ness is there. Stuff happens.
FORMAT: paragraphs are really neat
Ness was crouched on the floor of his bedroom, carefully constructing the interior of the model version of his house. It was pretty small, so it was taking him a long time to get it right.
The rest of the model now featured streets (with real paving) and Ness had even gone ahead and sculpted Giant Step.
He was pretty focused on his work, but the door to his room was open.

He was pretty focused on his work, but the door to his room was open.

He was heading up to see Ness and was about to enter entirely, but stopped and stepped back a little when he saw him building the model. He thought for a moment before taking a few small steps in, trying to get a better look without attracting the other boy's attention.

"I knew it!"

"Pokey, you nearly gave me a heart attack!"

The chubbier boy sat beside his friend, glancing at the house. He tilted his head a little, his voice taking a quizzical tone. "I'm impressed. I wouldn't have thought you were very good at building junk, but it looks a lot like our neighborhood."
He thinks for a moment before saying, "Has anything changed about the neighborhood? Since I've been gone?"

And he still remembers it. Even after all this time, every little nook and cranny of the neighborhood, he remembers it. He's amazed that Ness even noticed the little crooked slant to the steps on his house.
That he even noticed the....
Pokey pauses for a moment before asking, "...You really do miss it, don't you?"

When he felt the need, Ness could give someone quite the run around.

Ness scratched the back of his head, thoughtfully. "The view is great."

"Y'know...I kinda miss home too. But just a little."

He scratched his head for a minute before looking away. "There's not much but...for a few seconds, occasionally, I'd like to be there again."

Truthfully, Ness had already started to experience signs of severe homesickness. Before he had started work on his model, he had been having real trouble focusing on things.
no subject
"...You know, I bet it'll still be there, exactly like it was when you get back. And everyone'll be super happy to see you. They love you there, after all."
no subject
Anyway, it would be pointless to deny that he was something of a town celebrity.
"D'you think I should add in the trumpet guy? I think I will."
no subject
And he sat there for a moment grumpily, trying to puzzle out a way to respond to Ness. "So, I know you miss it a lot, and want to go back, and you will, but...don't you think it's kinda pointless to just keep missing it and missing it?"

"Well, I guess what I mean is...think of this as an extended vacation. Like, you'll get to go back eventually, it's not a question if you will or not but-"
Shaking his head a little, he finally said, "Man...I suck at this. I-look, is there anything I can do to actually help you feel better?"
Of course, he doesn't look at Ness while saying this.
no subject
"Aw, you don't have to do anything, Pokey. Wanna help with the model?"
no subject
Shrugging, Pokey said, "Yeah, sure. I can't stay for too long though. I'm gonna meet one of the guys teaching me science in a hour or two."

Of course, Pokey didn't feel the need to alert Ness to the fact that he was working with mad scientists aiming for world conquest Fairly harmless mad scientists bent on world domination, but still. He couldn't imagine the other by seeing just how cool that was or necessarily approving.
no subject
"If he offers you homemade goodies or something, you should probably say no."
That opinion was purely from experience, though.

The idea that someone might pull one over him angered him beyond belief. Did Ness know something he didn't about dealing with other scientists?
I laughed so hard at that tag, you don't even know. classic Pokey.
Or would experiment with food like he did with science. Ness would trust in scientists' ability, but...Trout Yogurt.
Aawww, thanks. That means a lot. ^_^
...Maybe there was something else. Maybe Ness did know something, and just wasn't telling him. It was paranoid, but that was something Pokey had always had an inclination towards. Thinking for a moment, he asked, "Hey Ness? You maybe want to come with?"
Only way to tell if Ness knew something he didn't was to test, after all.
:3
"You really want me to?" That...meant a lot, assuming it was an honest gesture, and Ness really wanted to believe that it was.

But it would be cool for Ness to see what he was doing. And, even if he'd never admit it, it'd be nice to see the other boy cheer up.
