SUMMARY: Sally tries to make Sam lunch. It doesn't go quite like she expected.

It was Mother's Day, and as much as Sally tried to ignore the day whenever it came around, she'd decided to make Sam a special lunch. She remembered how hard her first Mother's Day without her mom had been, and even if his mom hadn't actually died, she still wasn't present in the City to celebrate the holiday. So she'd made chicken salad sandwiches, potato salad, and a fruit salad from scratch. As soon as the jello was ready everything would be set.

"I think that says something about how well you were all raised," Sally told him. "I kind of envy that a little."

[ahhmahgawd]

"Ah bet your momma tried," he told her. "Ah bet she tried with alla her heart."

[prettymorlock]

"She did; I know she really tried, and I'll always be thankful for that," she murmured. "She tried to keep all the bad stuff that was happening away from me for as long as she could. She was a really good mom."

[ahhmahgawd]

"Yeah. Ah can just tell," he hugged her a little tighter, then. "Ah bet your momma was the best lady."

"She was amazing," Sally clung tightly to him. "She's the one who got me all my country books, and she'd tell me about when she went to the beach and stuff as a kid. She told me I'd see the world one day and to not let any boy stop me from doing so."

[ahhmahgawd]

"Ya know what, girl?" Sam began, smiling down at her slightly as he spoke. "When it gets a lil' warmer out, we should check out a beach. Have some fun, just like your momma did."

[prettymorlock]

"I'd really like that," Sally looked up at him, grinning. "Could we make a sandcastle? I've never done that before. With shells and everything."

[ahhmahgawd]

"Sure," he laughed. "A real big one!"

Usually he was hesitant in beach trips since Impossible Man stalked him and his team, but he wasn't in this universe! 8D

Sally giggled at his enthusiasm, and then moved so she could brush her lips against his.

He kissed her back, then pulled away with a smile. "Feelin' better?"

"Much better, thank you," she curled back against him, and nodded. "Usually do when I spend time with you."

[ahhmahgawd]

"Backatcha," he grinned. "And...thanks for lunch, Sally."

[prettymorlock]

"You're welcome," she closed her eyes and yawned. "Next time we'll have jello."

[ahhmahgawd]

Sam nodded, and laughed against her. "Next time. Alright."
