soldieringblue: (‹when that memory arises›)

Such a simple question with such a complex answer. It was hard to know where to start, and the conversation lapsed back into silence as Blue worked to sort it all out in his mind. When he spoke, it was careful, working it out as he went, trying to put it all together.

"When I arrived here...It was a hundred years since we escaped Ganymede. One moment I was on the Shangri-La with Harley and Zel, and the next..." The Porter room came to mind, a memory they could both share. But that wasn't where the question of memories ended.

"As I wandered, lost...There were people who saw me and knew me, but...I did not know them. They welcomed me, recalled my face fondly..." He shook his head. "But I have never been to such a place before. Only after weeks of searching, listening did I begin to understand..."

Blue paused, drawing breath. "That I will be here again in my future. That was the Soldier Blue known here. The one that...knows you. The one that left his memories in the hearts of the people here he cared about. They let me see those important things, and that is how I knew who you were without...truly knowing you."
