Nate was still in California, albeit in a more urban environment than the national forest. He knew he should keep his father updated on what threats the HIVE posted, since there was no doubt he would be sending in his own covert operations team (led by Wolverine, who else). He wanted him to be successful. He knew Scott had to keep up a good image for the X-Men and he knew he was a good leader if just as stubborn and foolish as himself.

In a diner, Nate was picking at his waffles and sending a telepathic message to Scott from states away.

Scott had been trying to do damage control on the mess in California, or rather do some preventative measures on possible damage, when Cable contacted him. He was definitely not in the best of moods but he figured it was better to deal with this now than later.

I will take the blame. I'm fully prepared to turn myself in for "tampering with their minds", Scott. They way he conveyed the message, it was obviously not true; Cable would never resort to that level of telepathy on his teammates. And before you bring anyone in, you should know what you're going up against.

Scott wasn't stupid, he knew it wasn't true and he knew that no one would believe it.

You scout out with a team first, Cable. You know that. This whole operation was poorly planned and executed. If you've got information that's useful though, let's have it.

Scott had his method and Cable had his which usually involved more explosions and gunfire. Security isn't human. Not mutant either. They're metas with advanced technology including power dampeners. You want to get in without a fight and stealthily. There's eyes everywhere. It isn't a kid's job.
