Days of keeping psychic track of Blue left Hiei with no problems finding the Mu's current place of residence. He blithely let himself in and, finding no one inside, settled down on an innocuous piece of furniture to wait for one of the Mu to return.

He was returning to the apartment alone. Soldier and guardian Blue may be, he knew Jomy was just as capable--moreso, it seemed. Still, in such an expansive, noisy place...He will be fine. Even with the strangest of encounters, Jomy had returned safely. It didn't mean Blue couldn't worry, however.

Those thoughts were cut short with the familiar notion striking Blue's mind as the building came into view. He craned his head up, as if seeing from the ground would make it more apparent. No need; he could recognize that presence quite well now. A faint smile played on his mouth for a moment. He will be disappointed if he's looking for a meal...

Blue took his time, preferring to walk than expend the energy with a teleport. It was only three flights of stairs. He opened the ever-unlocked door to find Hiei more than comfortable in the living area.

"Hello, Hiei," he greeted, as if he expected him to be there anyway.

"Hn."

Hiei did at least have the decency to give Blue his attention as he entered the room.

"Took your time getting in."

"I hadn't known you would be coming," Blue replied, lifting the amplifiers from his ears as he moved across the room. He placed them carefully on a table. "Have you been here long?"

"A while." Hiei didn't move, though he tracked Blue's movement with his eyes.

"It was boring."

"Ah, we have little here for entertainment or interest," Blue admitted. A needless observation: no television, no radios, no books (in that room, at least)... "Which is why we were gone for so long." He turned, tilting his head down at Hiei. "What were you looking to do?"

A smirk lived its entire life and died in the space of a few seconds on Hiei's face as he tilted his chin to answer.

"Nothing."

Blue made a thoughtful sound. "Your boredom was self-imposed then, wasn't it?" he said, moving to sit down at the other end of the sofa.

"Hardly." Still, this infuriating back-and-forth was as close as Hiei generally got to good-natured teasing. So there was that.

He quieted, wondering if silence was the cure to quelling that buildup of Hiei-brand annoyance. Even after all the encounters, maneuvering safely through a conversation with the demon was still laden with obstacles. It was better to let Hiei lead words, he'd found, though not without keeping his own footing.

"Do you feel like you're in danger, Blue?" Conversing with Hiei could be an adventure, if one wanted to word it that way.

"Ah?" Not the question Blue expected; it read quite well on his face, at that. He blinked, looking for some clue on Hiei's face that would lead the answer. Truth was one thing, but...

"Because I left? That..." He hesitated. "That was not for my safety. I'm in no more danger than anyone here. Less, perhaps."

"That's hardly an answer to my question." There was no hostility in his aura, merely...curiosity? A very mild concern, perhaps, mingled with a vague sense of entertainment.

A pensive silence. At length, "Yes."

"Good." A real smirk crossed his face and lingered for a while. "I would have been disappointed otherwise."

Blue looked back over at Hiei with a flicker of confusion. Even without mental walls, he was such a hard person to read. "Is that so..."

"Naturally." It was a mystery how someone so small could be so overbearingly smug. But then, buried inside the smugness and amusement (at Blue's expense, no doubt) was a bit of approval.

It seemed so contradictory to what he'd been told, but there it was. Blue was of no mind to contest it, however. He only nodded once, vaguely, turning his head away. There was still a lot to learn, dealing with such a strong array of those kinds of feelings; he could hardly pin smug as a trait to any of his comrades he'd spent his life with. It made him ever-unsteady--something Hiei probably relished to exploit.

He wished Jomy were here to sturdy him and give him better focus.

"Problem?" Hiei asked smoothly, enjoying Blue's mild discomfort more than he probably should have. He had the upper hand, and more importantly: Blue seemed willing to tolerate his particular brand of obnoxiousness.

"No," Blue replied quietly, eyes on the window.

"Hn." Were he dealing with Yusuke or Kuwabara, the conversation would have devolved into a fight at this point. Or Hiei would have made an infuriatingly-timed disappearance.

But in dealing with Blue, Hiei found it more enjoyable to stick around and enjoy the silence. It was like basking in a victory.

There was no danger from Hiei. Despite things told to the contrary, Blue believed that. It gave him freedom to let his mind drift in the quiet, dropping his gaze down to nothing as he listened and looked outside of himself. There was always someone to look for.

It required the sifting through of a small world of thoughts and emotions still just as startling as the day he'd first felt it-- It was like plunging into ice cold water; even doing so knowingly isn't enough to stay off the shock.

The temperature was not chilly so much as it was unpredictable. Tension has that effect; different people reacted and coped with it in various ways. Despite the thousands of scattered thoughts, needs, and moods, it was a unified tension that made for an undulating color over everything. Tight and pulsing, it was too easy to become absorbed in the dread that came with it. Looking for lights that became too far away to reach then and there--

Blue shook once, sucking in a quick, sudden breath as he returned, blinking and getting his bearings. It was strangely cold, he thought.

Added to Blue's concerns once he returned to reality was the weight of Hiei's gaze. Blue's powers were a mystery to him, so this was an opportunity, among other things, to observe him in action.

And, of course, he was curious about what exactly it took to snap Blue out of a trance in such a way.

The chill, then...Blue looked up and around, stopping at Hiei with an unreadable expression that watered to something softer. "...I'm sorry. Did you speak?"

The softer expression seemed to trigger a stiffness in Hiei's shoulders, all but unnoticeable to the untrained eye. He was still paranoid over Yusuke's mostly-innocent teasing, which meant double-guessing even the most benign of 'suspicious' behavior.

"No."

The look lingered a moment. Blue considered in silence before rising, drifting to the table he had set the amplifiers down. He grazed fingers across the band, frowning while he debated.
