SUMMARY: Trying to stop thinking so much, Momiji starts wondering around the City.

Momiji had been spending his first few days in the City trying to wrap his mind around the concept of being stuck in this new reality. It hadn’t been going well. Thinking about it left him depressed and filled with questions about the future. The silence that filled his apartment wasn’t helping. Momiji had never really been alone. Sure, the houses on Sohma estate were usually quiet, but there had still been the background hum of human life. To keep himself from dwelling on his situation, Momiji had been busy acquiring a new wardrobe and decorating his room.

But there was only so much time he could dedicate to deciding between shades of pink and by Friday, Momiji running out of things to do. Determined not to spend his weekend worrying over something he couldn’t change, he rose early and with a game plan. He was going to explore the City and get familiar with the place he’d be calling home from now on. Mentally pumping himself, Momiji pulled on a sweater and strode out the door.

"Once I was home, un!" Bakura grinned. "Getting to fly on my own power... aaaa, it was so niiice! Though I think I would have liked being a bigger one better!" Like the size Hiruma's smaller form was would even be enough. Just not so TINY!

"I bet flying was a lot of fun." Momiji proclaimed. He nodded to the size difficulties. "Yeah, yeah. Things are a lot different when you're small." That much he could speak from experience, though he'd never been as tiny as bat!Bakura.

"It really was! It's so much different than someone else carrying you while they fly!" Not that that wasn't fun too! "Aaa, I wouldn't mind getting to do that again~"

"Maybe you'll get the chance to someday!" He reasoned. It didn't seem like the most outlandish thing to hope for, given where they lived.

"I hope so! With all the strange things the Porter does, who knows what could happen!"

After all, he'd turned into a robot twice. So stranger things had happened!

"The Porter likes doing really weird, doesn't it?" He mused. "Why would you want to make people turn into animals? It sounds like some mad scientist doing weird experiments."

"Sometimes I think that's pretty accurate for the Porter. Like when it changes people's powers around, or swaps them with different versions of themselves from other times or things like that... I think it gets bored."

Could a machine even get bored? Momiji tapped his chin, sighing. "Maybe it's lonely." He started, frowning. "Maybe that's why it sends people here and messes with them for entertainment."

Bakura blinked a few times. "You think so? I wouldn't think someone who was lonely would try and make people hate it..."

Momiji's frown deepened. "You might be right. But people react to their feelings in odd ways sometimes, in ways others doesn't think make sense. Maybe its the same for machines." He looked up, smiled and rubbed the back of his neck. "Maybe I'm just over thinking it."

"Maybe. But you could be right," Bakura smiled.

Momiji just shrugged and continued playing. "Eh, maybe someday someone will figure out why this all goes on."

"Maybe!" Bakura smiled, still half absentmindedly hitting the puck. Oddly, he was doing better while distracted. Maybe it was because he wasn't trying so hard. "I haven't had much luck yet! But it would be nice to know."

"Maybe someone super smart scientist will figure it out." He decided, nodding. Momiji wasn't quite so good with distractions and ended up missing the puck. "They'd probably have much better luck then normal people." He concluded, fetching the puck from the goal.

"Since it's a machine and not a person that might be who would figure it!" Bakura smiled, adjusting to be playing more lazily to match Momiji's distraction level.

Momiji set the puck down and hit it with less force then before. He nodded. "But I guess that's not really important right now."

It was becoming the most relaxed game of air hockey ever. Hiruma would be disgusted!

"Un, you're probably right. Really, until the Porter decides to actually explain things or let itself be looked at, I doubt we'll ever know. But as long as I get to stay here, I don't mind, really. Most of the strange stuff isn't so bad!"

Most of the really bad things were caused by people anyway.

"Mmhmm." Momiji made a small noise of agreement. He wasn't yet sure if he was that enticed by the idea of staying here for an extended period of time. But he was willing to make the most of what time he did spend. He returned the puck with more force, getting back into the game.

Bakura had very little waiting for him back home, but understood that some people did, and didn't at all begrudge them that.

But with the conversation finishing up, he focused a bit more on the game, still trying to match Momiji's skill.

Because after all. It was the playing that was the fun, not the winning!

Momiji blocked and hit much more furiously now that he had nothing else to say. He was starting to think about somethings better left for latter, so he tried to focus solely on the game and trying to win. Which was admittedly hard, Bakura really was good at games.

Bakura had the natural advantage of coming from a world of people obsessed with a card game and having a best friend who had a love of games to rival his own.

That and having friends in the City who constantly rode his ass to get him to focus better and get stronger. Which of course, he applied to his gaming.

However, he was making sure to keep the score even~ Not that he would let on that he was doing so! And when it came down to the last point, the kid gloves would be off.

Momiji's only drive in this was that he didn't get to play games of this nature a lot. It was only recently that everyone had stopped treating him like a kid, so he was more used to stuff like hide and seek. Getting to play like this was a fun change.

He missed another block, laughing as he picked the puck up and sent it sailing the right. "Eeeh, I think you might win!"

Bakura laughed softly, easily hitting the puck back. "Only because you've been more distracted!"

Momiji had to agree. "I'll have to focus more if I'm going to stand a chance against you!" He blocked and tried to bounce the puck in off the wall.

Bakura grinned as he deflected it. "Maybe! But you're still doing really well! A little more practice and you'll beat me easily, I'm sure!"

Seriously, someone needs to graffiti that on the Porter room :D

If he shows them publicly, Momiji will have to sqee at him

He can show up at the game shop :D Bakura will have his head covered outside, but not inside. :)

Maybe that can be when he comes in about the job?
