[It was Tom's first couple weeks running the bar, and, surprisingly, it had gone pretty well so far. The transition itself was a bit of a challenge, but once he'd become accustomed to it, it really wasn't so bad at all. In fact, he found himself even enjoying the work, even if it meant extra hours for the time being, since the promotion and port-outs lately meant that they were running a bit understaffed.

That wasn't why he was pulling other duties besides just managing the place, though. Working behind the bard was one of the best jobs he had, and he really enjoyed it. He got to talk to people at the bar (and occasionally have a drink or two himself). It was the social aspect that he liked, which was why, to maybe draw in a few new regular customers, he was offering free drinks for the week.]

[He folds his arms.]

Sure. Whatever you want.

[girlverine]

[She turns back to her drink and takes a sip of it.]

I don't know.

[hellionated]

[And he searches for a subject that's in some way...neutral.]

'Kay. What do you like best about the City? We'll talk about that.

[...He doesn't do neutral too well.]

[girlverine]

[A little pause as she thought about.]

I...like having no past. It doesn't matter here. And the people that know about it. Really know about it. You, Selina, Doctor McCoy...

You never held it against me.

It's...a relief.

[hellionated]

[He nods. He can understand that. Some people at home act like douches to her and she doesn't need it. One of those names makes him raise an eyebrow, though.]

Selina? How does she know?

[girlverine]

She knew my mother. And...a younger me. From the Facility. Before I had a name.

[hellionated]

Oh, man. [That's bound to be weird as hell for her.]

Well, she's got the right attitude. Lady must be okay.

You've got good people round you, Laura. All of 'em. All the ones I've met, anyhow.

[girlverine]

She is.

[Laura smiles faintly and nods.]

I do. I am...glad you are one of them. It was strange when you left. Before. When you don't remember.

[hellionated]

[ His eyes slide to her. She hasn't talked about that before. ]

What do you mean, strange?

[girlverine]

[Laura had no idea how to explain what she meant, because she honestly didn't know. She was quiet, looking slightly lost as she studied her drink.]

I don't know. It just...was.

[hellionated]

[ He raises an eyebrow, completely thrown. He hadn't expected her to say any of that. ]

You've...never talked about that. When I was here before. Not since that first day.

[girlverine]

It does not matter.

[hellionated]

[ Uh huh.

...

He frowns. ]

Did I do something wrong? ...Before?

[girlverine]

No.

[She's not sure how to explain.]

You were just...distant.

[hellionated]

[ He stays quiet for a minute. ]

Distant. [ Not looking at her. ] I wasn't around?

...We weren't... [ He kind of signals between them because that makes so much sense. ] We didn't hang out like this.

[girlverine]

No.

[One answer for three questions. She just shifted in her chair.]

But as I said it does not matter.

[hellionated]

[ He looks at her for a long minute. Then he looks down at his drink, noting how depressingly non-alcoholic it is and deciding to change that as soon as possible. He drains it and signals for something involving vodka. ]

...

Does it matter if I say I'm sorry?

[girlverine]

You have nothing to apologize for, Julian.

[hellionated]

Really? Me apologizing doesn't happen too often, you should take advantage.

[ He's trying to lighten the mood, even if he's so far done a great job of bringing it down. ]

[girlverine]

[She smiles faintly.]

I...will remember this one for the next time you do something inappropriate.

[hellionated]

[ That makes him laugh a little. ]
