[ Sequestering himself in the kitchen, Peter was sitting up on the counter, simply waiting for Topher to come around. He kind of figured the other would show up sooner or later, Topher could never really resist the siren call of snack time.

But he’d been living here long enough, he’d known Topher long enough, that Peter kind of thought it was time to talk about a few things. He was still wary of the clinic he worked for, not to mention Topher’s most recent freakout regarding Buffy.. well, Peter couldn’t just let that hang in the air for the rest of forever. No matter how much he wanted to.

Taking a swig from his bottle of water, Peter sighed, rubbing at his face. He hated that there were issues with things in the first place, it wasn't like his life needed to be anymore complicated. And dealing with it wasn't going to be easy but it wasn't much of a choice anymore. ]

Fine, guess you can keep it.

[ He shakes his head, but finally grabs hold of the slight opening in the conversation. ] Hey, can we.. talk?

We are talking.

[He can't help the smile]

About Buffy. And the clinic.

[ wait, that made it sound like Buffy needed to go to the clinic about something, whoops, he kind of needs a second to backtrack. ]

Not at the same time, though.

[His face paled just slightly]

Oh? You're not quitting are you because I really need your help at the clinic.

[Yeah, he was just going to avoid the B word]

Why would I quit? Believe me, I still need the job.

[ Fine, they could avoid the Buffy conversation for a few more seconds, but this was somehow even more difficult because he didn't know exactly what he was dealing with. ]

Well when people want to talk that's usually a sign for "I have bad news." You quitting would be me getting bad news.

[Topher isn't really THAT clingy...most of the time]

I don't have any bad news, and i'm not quitting. I just- [ Peter sighs, pressing a hand to his mouth for a few seconds while he tries to search for the words. ]

You never told me anything else about Rossum.

[He swallowed hard and thought of a million ways to make Peter forget about asking anything about Rossum especially after having had his meeting with Boyd]

Oh? It's just a medical supply company back home and here too. Clinic's need supplies!

[ He raises his eyebrows, not even remotely convinced. Why did this feel so familiar.... ]

Then what's so evil about it?

Evil? That's just silly! Who said anything about it being evil?

[He backpeddled like he never had before]

[ He sighs, folding his arms across his chest, going quiet for a few long moments. Somehow Peter doubted he was going to get the information out of Topher that he wanted, and it bothered him all that much more. He'd been through this multiple times already and the part that tore him up the most was the lies. ]

Look, if something's going on with the clinic, i'm not gonna blame you. I just want to know. [ and if he doesn't get it from you, Topher, he's gonna go looking somewhere else. ]

[Topher leans on the opposite counter and raises an eyebrow]

Want and need are two different things and you don't need to know anything more than what you do which is already more than most.

Look, just don't worry about it. I can handle things and that includes my non-evil boss coming over for dinner Saturday.

[Yeah, he figures now is a good time to mention that]

Not worrying about evil companies last time meant my dad showing up out of--

[ Wait, hold up. Peter shut himself up, thinking that one over for a moment. If Topher wasn't willing to answer his questions, then at least he'd have a higher up to direct his questions toward. Whether or not Topher wanted him to know anything because obviously, there was something worth knowing. ]

Yeah? What's he coming over for?

[His eyes narrow slightly at this mention of Peter's dad, something his friend never talked about.]

Your dad is evil?

[ Peter blinked a few times, hesitating as he stared over at Topher. This really.. was not how he wanted this conversation to go. ]

Yeah. He was.

And that is why you're all paranoid about evil people and the companies they build, right?

[See all this deflection?]

It's more complicated than that.

I'm still think it's creating a whole realm of distrust, Man-friend.

The whole realm of distrust, or whatever you want to call it, started before my dad came back from the dead.

Okay, fine, but that doesn't mean you need to continue that line of thinking here. Look I'm full of trust so just relax and trust me.

I never said I didn't trust you, Topher. I just want to know what's going on.

[So much sighing. Why can't you just leave things alone, Peter?]

It's a clinic. You're there more than I am, so [Shrugs]
