Summary: jess realizes that she's really stupid. peter comforts.

[ she left the apartment miserable. this was a stupid idea. she shouldn't have said anything. everything was going so good until she said something and now everything's out the window.

Jess is entering the apartment, slamming the door after her, hands rubbing at her face. god this was just the dumbest thing she had ever done. and now johnny hates her. ]

[Peter just ... keeps patting her back for as long as she lets him, occasionally making soothing noises.]

[ oh, wow. here come the tears. ]

I don't even care that I'm a clone anymore, you know? I'm my own person. I'm Jessica stinkin' Drew.

But it's like, all that matters was that I used to be y -- Peter.... That's all that mattered to him.

Shh, shh ... c'mere.

[He tugs her into a hug, if she'll let him.]

[ she's burying her face against him, trying not to burst out bawling. but she really hurts in her chest and flipping between feeling like she was punched in the gut or slapped in the face.

so there's lots of sniffling and whimpers. ]

[He'll just keep making soothing noises until she's cried herself out. Eventually:]

I am so proud to know you, Jessica Drew.

[ it takes her a while and she eventually just dissolves into sad little sniffles. ]

I-- I -- t-thank you...

[Peter doesn't say anything for a while. He's not sure how to handle the feelings tangled up in his chest -- sadness and anger for Jess, rueful embarrassment for Johnny, and winding around all of it a guilty sense of pleasure that he has family, and she trusts him.]

I'm really glad we both came to the City, little sis.

M-me too. [ she sniffs and chokes on her words, at this point, just ready to bawl out her feelings ]

I don't -- no one likes it here but I -- I think it's pretty okay? I-I mean, I'm not -- [ sniff ]

I'm not ready to go back to Queens y-yet. I-I don't want to leave you.

[Squeezing her shoulder:]

Not planning on going anywhere anytime soon, believe you me.

Good.

[ rubbing at her eyes now and curling up next to him ]

Everything sucks.

[Wrapping an arm loosely around her shoulders.]

You'll be fine. If he can't deal with this, that's his problem. You still have me, Gwen, May and even the Devils, and all the other friends you've made here.

[A slight smirk.]

Just, if you dump him, promise me you won't use this as an excuse to date one of those older men you keep getting mixed up with?

Yeah. I just... you know. Really liked him and all.

[ cheeks tinging and then wow. her face turns redder at his next comment ]

Oh my god, Peter!!!

[The very picture of a well-meaning older brother, if not for the continued grinning.]

I'm just saying! I know that older boys seem more mature and sensitive, 'cause, well, they are, but you have to remember that any guy who'd date a girl that much younger than him has his own problems going on --

[ this is her grabbing a pillow and throwing it at him ]

[He could duck, of course, but it's more entertaining to take it right to the face and dramatically flop over, groaning in exaggerated pain.]

Aaargh! Betrayed by my own sister!

[ she's crawling over so she can sit on him, shoving the pillow against his face playfully, puffing out her cheeks ]

You betrayed me first! You betraying traitor!

Lies, foul lie--ackpptth!

[He sputters and flails at her, never actually doing more than giving her the lightest taps. Abruptly, after one last, frenzied claw at the air, he goes limp and just lies there, not even breathing.]

[ she pauses and lifts the pillow off his face, staring ]

Pe...ter...? Peter! [ before smacking him upside the head with it ]

[Still just lying there like a dead fish, ho ho ho.]

[ pause.

stares.

smacks him with the pillow again ]

Quit playing possum! Peter!

[STILL TOTALLY LYING THERE. DEAD TO THE WORLD.

Except he may be twitching ever so faintly.]

[ SQUINTS AT............. ]

I know you can hear me!

[ smacks on the face again with pillow jfaskl ]

[Suddenly ROARS and tumbles them both to the ground, grabbing another pillow and thwacking at her mercilessly.]

I'll get you, my pretty! Mwha-ha-ha-ha!

[So very obvious how often he's heard maniacal laughter in his career; the authenticity comes close to unnerving.]

[ shrieks and had to resist the urge to roll to her feet when she hits the ground. covering her face with her hands and squealing ]

Help, help! Child abuse! Help!

[ she's laughing though ]

[Drops pillow, starts tickling. Does she have the same vulnerable spots?]
