[Once she's close enough for comfortable conversation she comes to a stop before him and inclines her head in respectful greeting.

Behind her, the trailing con attendees come more or less to a halt, and some start edging to the side to get a better angle for photos.
]

Greetings, sir. I am Ysera.

Severus Snape, madam.

[He doesn't recognize her. But she has a fandom entourage and he's picked up a few himself. It's a new thing, this.]

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
[There is a sudden flurry of hushed whisperings among those camera-clutching tagalongs. Cameras and video phones are now pointed at you, Severus. And most of Ysera's entourage are maneuvering to try to get both of you in the pictures now.

Ysera ignores them and offers Severus Snape a smile.
]

It is a pleasure to meet you. There are fewer true magic users among the crowds here than I had hoped for a Convocation of Magic. But it seems as though all of us have come from the City.
onewrongword: (3/4 Turn)

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-04 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
[That is intensely creepy. Snape eyes them and them utters a single word.]

Muffliato.

[And now, while they can hear the fans, the fans cannot hear them.]

Excuse me. I am not very used to dealing with-- admirers of this sort. I share your feeling, however, on the con...vocation. [He's sure that's not what it called, but still.]

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
[At the feel of the magic sweeping out and around the two of them, Ysera's long ears twitched and flicked up.

But before she could say anything, there were suddenly a few gasps from the audience and someone in the back actually pointed and said in a shrilly excited tone, "Oh my god, Snape just used a spell! On us! I didn't catch it! Which one was it?!"

Someone else shushed the excitable girl, but it set off another flurry of murmurs and camera flashes.

One of Ysera's long eyebrows twitched, but she turned away from the loudest 'fans' and nodded to Severus.
]

It can be quite trying, yes. But they mean no harm.

[She turned her head far enough, that she could have glanced at the crowd out of the side of her vision - if her eyes were open, that is.]

They have not been... quite this boisterous before now.

[She could see all the myriad conversations their audience was imagining they were having. Some of the fantasized conversation topics were really quite absurd... and would be insulting if she didn't know intimately just how flighty and silly the dreams of mortals could be. She turned back to Severus with a slight shake of her head.]

What was that spell you used just now? I am not familiar with that incantation for this type of effect.
onewrongword: (Annoyed)

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-04 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Muffliato is a spell of my own design. It creates a field of white noise -- they can no longer hear what passes between us.

[He pockets his wand again, and then lets his eyse glance to the fans, narrowing eyes as a camera flashes. He hasn't yet encountered the worst of fandom yet, but give it time and he will glimpse it's sunless white underbelly, it's terrible pornography, and the borderline pedophilia...]

I'm not very used to them. But I hate having my conversations observed. I'd rather speak to one of our own without prying ears trying to apply meaning that may not be there.

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Your own design? That's quite ingenious.

Do you prefer the title of Wizard, sir Snape? I have encountered a few others in the City who use the term, rather than Mage, as I am familiar with.

[As they talk, their little crowd is gathering more attention and a few additional fans have stopped to join in the rousing conversation over which spell Snape used. One middle-aged, slightly dumpy woman in a Slytherin scarf is busy making eyes at Snape. When he looks over the crowd, she shoots a nearly poisonous glare at Ysera and then simpers and gives Snape a coy look as he glares in her direction.

Ysera shakes her head slightly, her ears dipping down a bit.
]

Humans are quite skilled at making up their own meanings for things they do not understand. It is practically an art form in some circles.

[She smiles faintly, thinking of some of the utter nonsense being spawned in the imaginations of their audience.]

But you are correct in that our conversations are not meant for their ears.
onewrongword: (Curious)

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-04 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
I am a fair hand at spell design.

And wizard is quite fine; do you have a title of preference?

[He glances at the... woman... who is wearing his house colors and giving him that... look. He's not really sure he's reading it right so... dismisses her completely and looks back to Ysera.]

[This may not bode well for Ysera. Snape doesn't know that, though.]

I'm sure. Is there anything specific you seek to learn in your time here?

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Ysera shook her head slightly with a smile. She had so many titles, but none of them were necessary or applicable in this situation.]

Just Ysera is fine. I am not a magic user in the traditional sense you are likely familiar with.

[That woman sighs dreamily as he looks away... and then glares with extra venom at the elven hussy that drew her Snape's attention away. She pulls her cellphone out of her oversized green purse and begins texting furiously, alternating between shmoopy looks toward Snape and glares of a woman scorned at Ysera.

Camera's continue to go off from the crowd, which has gained a contingent of teens and twenty-somethings wearing assorted Hogwarts House scarves, and even a few in full uniform robes. In fact, the size of the crowd itself is drawing curious people over toward it.

Ysera has been mostly trying to tune out the majority of the fantasies and vivid imaginary daydreams swirling around the people in this hotel. All these vividly fantasizing Dreamers packed into this hotel is simply too much to focus on for any length of time. It was dizzying, to say the least.

Between that, and paying attention to Wizard Snape, she was not entirely aware of what was brewing around them.
]

I'm hoping to learn more about the other magic users brought to this world. There are many that I do not even know in passing. And I would like to find some who could assist me in a project.
onewrongword: (Calm)

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-04 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Snape is oblivious to the fact that this woman is giving him adoring glances, because really, that must be a misinterpretation. Women aren't attracted to him. They certainly to not love him. He has no idea about this astral channeling mess, either.]

[Instead, he just-- talks to Ysera. She's one of those people he's here to meet. That's what he's here to do so he'll do it.]

I am currently working with the DOI representative on some magical integration. Perhaps you'd like to meet her tomorrow? I could arrange it.

What sort of projects do you have in mind?

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
Forgive me, DOI? I am unfamiliar with that term.

[Her ears flick forward then flatten slightly back.]

It's a rather specific project relating to magics from my homeworld. There is a magical... artifact from my world that has become tainted in this world. I am in need of assistance to shield and purify it.

[This is important. Wizard Snape has claimed to be a good hand at crafting original spells, and is working with a larger group on integrating magics. His type of magic is also very versatile from what she has seen from the other wizards that feel as he does in the magic ether. His aid could be instrumental in her goal.

She didn't even notice when the skinny forty-something woman in Hogwarts professor robes, Slytherin scarf, thick glasses, and a walking stick arrived and converged on the woman with the green purse. Trailing behind her were two women in their twenties. One clutched a thick, hand-bound book the size of a binder. Stenciled carefully on the cover are the words 'My Darling Severus Snape; We The Devoted Ones.'

Another woman with thick glasses and a floofy dress in Slytherin colors, with a Slytherin brooch over her bosom, arrived from the other direction. Another woman was at her side wearing a hat with green feathers and a veil. The woman in the dress practically fluttered her hands at seeing Snape, lifted her skirts and pushed her way through the crowd to hurry and join the woman with the purse. The woman behind her shot a frowning glare toward Ysera before lifting on her toes and waving cheerfully at Snape as she hurried along behind the woman in the dress.

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-04 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Snape cuts a glance at the crazy women -- who he does not yet realize are crazy -- and instead continues to speak with Ysera and ignore fans.]

[He will never make this mistake again.]

It stands for Department of Integration. It works with imPorts; Miss Maggotbone is here to meet the magical community and work to assess it's needs so that the programs built for imPorts can better serve them.

I'm merely acting as a facilitator, since I know many wizards from my world, and a few from others.

[Her problem sounds remarkably like his; with the horcrux-- or what used to be a horcrux, anyway-- in the city, carrying the heavy taint of dark magic, there needs to be a few things done. Sirius wanted to bring others in on it, but Snape's more wary...]

[Ysera, however, is asking for help in her arena, maybe this should be a sign, an example he should follow.]

If you need assistance, I'm certain that some could be found. I just cannot say how quickly. We have some small problems of our own that need resolving, but I imagine it can be handled internally. Your project sounds-- less so.

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
I believe I would like to meet Miss Maggotbone. I am unsure if her department can assist me in this matter, but perhaps she knows some who might be of assistance.

I cannot manage the casting and rituals myself, you see. Do you happen to know anyone I might speak with? I would be pleased with any assistance you can give me in resolving my dilemma.

[She slightly lifted and extended her hand in his direction as she asked for his aid. She was hoping he would offer his direct assistance in crafting the ritual spells necessary for the creation of the runestones.

That little, unconscious gesture, was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. At the sight of that hussy elf reaching for their dear Severus' hand, the woman in the floofy green and silver dress gave a shrill cry and all but threw her skirts up in enraged indignation.
]

"How dare you! You two-bit Tolkien reject! Get your hands off my husband, you bitch!"

[She stormed forward waving her arms about like a madwoman as she screamed insults at Ysera. The rest of the group of women was bristling and glaring venomously at her as well.

Ysera turned her head around and simply stared through closed eyes, eyebrows so high they looked like antennae.
]

What-? Lady, I-

[But she was cut off as someone behind her shouted.]

"Hey! You can't talk about the Aspect of the Dream like that!"
onewrongword: (Are You Stupid?)

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-04 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Snape is considering the whole factor of 'how to get the great dragon lady to scratch my back if I scratch hers'; he's a Slytherin, that's how they work.]

[But while he's thinking about that, all hell breaks loose. He's trying to figure who who is laying hands on whose husbands until he's realizeing the woman has gotten right up in Ysera's elfin grill, and ... is claiming Snape as her husband.]

I beg your pardon! What are you shrieking about, you miserable harridan?

[And that only makes the shrieking worse. Except now it's shrill calls of oh how could you, my beloved and don't you know who I am, I am one of your astral wives!.]

[Snape...has no words for any of this, backing off from the obviously mentally deranged women, but he's not about to let the woman --six foot or not-- be assaulted by... whoever these women are.]

I'll have none of this! I don't know who are you are or what you're going on about, but I am no one's husband, astrally or otherwise! Leave Ysera alone, you daft harpies!

[This only stirs some of the Warcraft fans, and it looks like a mob's growing -- some in Hogwarts robes, others in general fantasy grab, and several in armor.]

[Snape wonders if there's going to be a riot and he somehow precipitated it.]

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
This is ridiculous. Stop this at once. Wizard Snape is obviously not your husband and-

[Ysera is backing up slightly, trying to put some space between her and the flailing woman, but the rest of her reply is cut off by another of the women. The woman in back, holding the Book of Devotion, suddenly points at Ysera and shouts.]

"She must have put a spell on him! She's bewitched him into forgetting us and tricked him into loving her! We have to save him!"

[Then the woman with the walking stick hefted it like a weapon and let out a cry.]

"For our Husband! Our True Love will save him from the demon whore!"

[And then she charged at Ysera, swinging her walking stick overhand. Outraged cries and screams came from all around.

Ysera stared in shock, through her closed eyes, for a second, then abruptly stepped forward into the strike and raised her arm to block it. The outfit she wore wasn't just for show. Those armored gauntlets were designed to take blows in battle that were far stronger than this woman's flailing swings. After blocking the strike, Ysera twisted her arm to grip the stick to prevent another blow.

The woman shrieked in rage as her strike was blocked. The woman with the green purse hefted it like a weapon and rushed in to join the assault.

And then someone leaped out of the crowd and tackled the purse-wielding woman with a battle cry.
]

"FOR THE HORDE!"

[At the cry, Ysera gave a startled look in that direction. It wasn't truly a member of the Horde, was he? No... it was a human, but-

The distraction was enough for the woman to reach up and grab one of Ysera's horns and a handful of hair to yank her head down and around with a scream of "You green Bitch!"

Ysera gave a cry of pain and shock at the painful yank. Which only made the screams in the crowd grow louder.

[Snape has seen a lot of things; Death Eater ritual, orgies of sex and carnage, dark art rituals, to the very mundane boarding school life; teens sneaking off to the bushes to do what teens do, and even some staff doing the same when the urge took them, though Dumbledore eventually would give a kindly reminder, or an equally kindly sacking.]

[But this? This is like -- some where between a Death Eater frenzy and those aforementioned school children. Except these are grown women who should know better but somehow don't. That's the part he doesn't understand.]

[Fandom: It's fucking confusing.]

[He utters his spell, under his breath, sonorous and then speaks anew]

STOP THIS NONSENSE THIS MINUTE!

[Voice like a thunderclap, it startles everyone in the hall and then some, as if someone has created a sound system and wired it directly to Snape himself.]

CEASE THIS FOOLISHNESS! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES, THE LOT OF YOU!

[Clumps of fans who have read about Severus Snape's infamous temper but never actually seen it have no idea how to react to the raging wizard, cloak abillow and arms out, as he gestures as if he might strike one with one hand, wand in the other. It certainly takes the fight out of his 'wives', who have just watched their fantasy of suave, poetry-reading Snape who carves a roast goose at Christmas dinner evaporate like the morning dew.]

[The noise also has security converging on the place, as Severus advances on the women, wand still out. He cuts the noise on his sonorous spell, and speaks to them, livid with rage, lips flecked with saliva as he snarls at them for this shameful display of desperation and cruelty.]

You disgust me! Look at you! Like a pack of jackals! Don't come near me or anyone I speak to again, or you'll regret it, I promise!

[Security handles the rest, grabbing at the women, getting statements; and Snape steps back by Ysera, very obviously disturbed by the whole scene. That was... not anything he expected, and if the convention is going to be like this, he won't be staying long.]

[At least Draco didn't see it.]

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Between Snape's startlingly loud shouts startling the woman, and the enthusiastic assistance of another World of Warcraft gamer, Ysera was able to pry her off of her horn and step back out of reach as the security team waded through the crowd to break up the bout of madness.

While Severus was chewing out the mad women, several of the gamers approached Ysera. They were torn between bowing to her and fussing over her, upset she'd been harmed. Ysera tried to wave them off, but it wasn't until a member of security came for her statement that she was able to politely escape their attentions.

After giving her statement, one of the security members insisted on having the base of her horn checked to be sure she didn't need to see a doctor. Once that was taken care of, she stood back while the security team dispersed the crowd.

The whole incident had been more shocking than anything else. Oh, it was no mystery that humans could become caught up in their fantasies, but... to this degree was rare. The sheer strength of their warped delusions was so great that their fantasies were spread vividly around them. It was disorienting, and a bit nauseating, even, to see their love so warped around an empty illusion. She couldn't stand to look at their dreams for long, so had turned away.

She looked over as Snape moved to join her.
]

I thank you for your help, Severus Snape. It was bravely done, to stand against them.

Brave to stand against a pack of spinsters and future spinsters? [Well, coat him with lion fur and call him a Gryffindor. He just shakes his head at that.]

No. I couldn't simply-- let the madness go on. It was--[Totally humiliating]--simply unendurable. You are well, though? Unharmed? They grabbed at your hair like teen girls fighting over a Yule ball date.

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ysera tilted her head slightly and smiled, amused.]

Brave to stand in the face of a brewing mob brawl.

[She shook her head and lifted a hand to briefly touch the base of her horn.]

I am fine, truly. The base is a little tender, but it would take more than a deluded woman yanking on it to damage my horn.

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-09-04 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen worse.

[Satisfied that she's alright, Snape can only fall back into looking... uncomfortable, really, because now this convention has gotten supremely strange.]

Before we were rudely interrupted, you were explaining your project?

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ysera laughed softly, her ears flicking in wry amusement.]

Ah, yes.

[She gestured vaguely away from the scene of the almost-riot.]

Perhaps we should walk and talk, so as to discourage a crowd gathering to watch us.

I'll escort you to the suite, if you'll allow?

[See? Totally a gentleman.]

[When he's not a raging asshole.]

[Some of the fans are already whispering again.]

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[She inclined her head politely.]

I would be pleased to accompany you.

[As they started off in the direction of the elevators, those whispers began spreading. A few cameras were even going off again. Ysera steadfastly ignored it all.]

[Rule 34: There will be porn of it (before the night is out).]

[Once alone, he relaxes slightly, and finally can speak with candor again.]

So this project you speak of? You require other magical folk?

[identity profile] ofthedream.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
[By the end of the weekend there will probably be some involving Snape/dragon!Ysera or even dragon!Snape. It will be hideous.

It's a good thing Ysera doesn't pay attention to the internet.

She nods to Snape as the elevator heads up to their floor.
]

Yes. I know the spells and rituals to shield such an artifact, and others to purify one. I am certain I can modify the casting to mesh them together, but I cannot cast it myself.
