DRAIN YOU OF YOUR SANITY
WHO: The Emissary and co. versus everybody
WHERE: Off the coast of Battery Park and throughout the City
WHEN: Just before midnight October 31st (technically November 1st)
WARNINGS: Violence and frightening imagery
SUMMARY: Drawn by Illidan’s magic, a demon from beyond reality has come forth to help the Betrayer doom the world. The battle that saves or destroys everything has begun. Happy Halloween, Cityverse!
FORMAT: Paragraph to start, whatever works after.
It came.
The Moon of midnight on All Hallow’s Eve shone wetly on the waters of the City’s Harbour. From beneath the surface a rumbling could be heard, as though emanating far, far below, within abyssal depths and ancient fathoms that could not possibly be there. First there was a ripple, then a wave, then the creature began to arise from the waters. It slid upwards and upwards, rising smoothly and continuously out of the ocean like a living edifice, a vast Thing ancient and immovable, a walking island sunken no longer. The head then the shoulders then the wings then the misshapen body came forth, yet still more of Its bulk remained beneath the waters, with slow thighs beginning to move It towards the City. All around it the sky and the ocean seemed to darken with an almost positive quality, as though jet-black ink was spilling into the universe itself. The Emissary had come.
Water flowed off Its body in torrents, mixing with drool and ichor. An unending series of sickly slopping and slobbering noises came from the twitching forest of tentacles around Its mouth, the product of a ravening hunger. The ocean heaved immensely around the Titan form, waves thrashing from the power of Its body. How to describe such a thing? How to even conceive of such horror, outside of madness or nightmare? That immense octopus head crowning the terrible body, those dragon-bat wings sprouting from Its back, those rubbery, sea-green scales, the mingled and loathsome aspects of the reptile, the mollusc- and the human! For it was on two feet that It moved, and with two arms did the Emissary reach out toward the morsels It slavered for.
An aura of panic and despair announced It, greater than any herald’s trumpet. Merely to look upon that incomprehensible shape and its alien geometry was to gamble with one’s sanity. Its very presence emanated a sense of immeasurable insignificance and absence of meaning, as though all the Earth was plankton in the presence of a whale. It moved with a shambling, unwholesome motion that had nothing to do with clumsiness, gathering speed. A mountain walked or stumbled! Toward the City, toward the Well. Toward the end of the world.
[ooc: goddamndoomchat is open on AIM if anyone's interested! There are some people fighting the Emissary who have not been slotted into threads yet; we will work those out as we go along! The raid against Illidan in Central Park will be posted by Jill later. Have fun everybody!]

and so she'd hop from demonspawn to demonspawn, ripping through them as she could, and generally making a mess of her new Official Team Space jacket, and the little fairy wings she wore with it. someone let a small girl on the front line, and she was doing her damnedest to slow the advance, but there were just too many of them ]
no subject
He'd spotted the girls struggle, presently, and teleports directly into the fray. It's messy. It's sad to see. They will dismiss this wave and she will be sent on her way; he is newly determined of that. He tells her so much, even as he slashes upward on the first creature to approach. ]
You should not be here, Miss Maryam.
no subject
hopping from that one to her next target, her chainsaw appears in her hand to help make quick work of it. ]
I highly disagree, Mr. Wagner. There is perhaps no more fitting place for me to be located at present. You, however, stand a far greater chance of being harmed in this, and that would be undesirable.
no subject
The sudden appearance of the chainsaw, horrific business... Just another thing he won't bother worrying about right now. He's a bit busy weaving around the monsters, attempting quick and deadly blows while he attempts to negotiate the girl from the situation. ]
I do not fear harm. I estimate that you do not, either. Still-- [ Hold on, sorry. He dispatches another and it takes a moment of his concentration. ] You are very young. The general consensus is that young people should not be exposed to such things.
no subject
Were that the case, I'm afraid you're some sweeps late, particularly considering the months I experienced prior to my arrival here in the City. I am no stranger to "such things" as it is, and am in a unique position to handle them that few others are similarly granted.
It is therefore my duty to be here rather than elsewhere. If I am not, than innocents will come to harm, and that I find unacceptable.
no subject
[ This punctuated by a hard kick to his opponent of the moment. The thing lurches oddly, but doesn't fall, and Kurt curses under his breath. The horde members seem fairly squishy. Landing a hit that impacts is difficult work.
He opens his mouth to continue speaking, but the thing is upright again and not moving immediately forward, pausing in it path, mouth open... There's the briefest pause as he's unsure whether to follow through with an attack, simply move, or teleport out of the way altogether.
Teleport, he thinks, run it through the skull and stay above them all for a moment. Christ above, what a thing... And, as he thinks it, move, it happens. Even before the world blinks away, the creature is coughing up something undoubtedly vile. ]

she falls to her knees panting as she looks down at her hands, gnarled, torn, and burnt to such a degree one could almost have trouble recognizing what they were. she's glowing like a giant light bulb at this point, but she can't manage to slow her breathing or make the pain stop. really, when she thinks about it, trying to control her glow should be the least of her worries at the moment. ]
no subject
Then he does what he should have done in the first place, curse him for a fool, and he grabs up the girl and teleports away. Somebody else can slow the advance for a moment. They're now atop the nearest building, knee-jerk point of safety. ]
Gott im Himmel, mein Kind! Sie sollten nicht-- Ach! Are you mad?! Are you... I will not ask if you are all right. You are going to a doctor.
no subject
on top of the building, she breaks free with a surprising strength and hesitates at the ledge, what's left of her fingers being unable to grasp the threads to open a portal below. she turned before fully absconding, shouting back at him: ] I have no need of a medical professional!
[ and with that she dove off the roof, slowing her fall by hopping between facades and sliding as she could. it would be much easier if she had use of her hands, but she'd just have to make do. it wasn't her choice to travel to the top of the roof and away from the easiest prey.
as she leaps back into the fray, she finds herself to her disappointment that she wouldn't simply be able to pick off any of the corpses she'd already left, leaving her the more difficult necessity to single out a live one.
which means getting a better grip, which means scraping raw flesh and exposed bone against the monster's hide. nonetheless, it helps keep her steady enough that she can sink her teeth into the thing's rubbery and slick neck. the flavor of their bilious blood is perhaps the worst she's ever had to endure, but it's only a moment of drinking it before her hands begin bubbling and bleeding as the regrowth process begins.
the monster isn't so lucky, its wild bucking and attempts to get this young alien vampire off its back are largely unsuccessful, and eventually it succumbs to the bloodloss and stumbles to the ground. ]

Kanaya! Need a hand?
no subject
[ which isn't entirely true, they aren't quite finished yet. some blisters and burn marks still show, and they feel raw enough that she's sticking to her chainsaw instead of her fists. it's very effective, but so messy! ]
Are you certain it's safe for you to be here?
no subject
What's that supposed to mean?? Talk about rude, Kanaya!!
no subject
What I meant to ask was if you're certain you can handle this. I'm uncertain who's watching the others at present while the two of us are here, and I can't have them running around here and less than I can leave.
With Feferi gone now as well, taking care of the three of them falls to the two of us, and I not sure if either of them should be left to their own devices in a situation like this! I'm not sure if Karkat would be capable of convincing the other two to remain outside the battle, or, even worse, decide to join it himself!
no subject
[she pauses to fight off three more abominations, barely avoiding being latched on to by one.]
Probably, anyway.
no subject
Perhaps he wouldn't, but should they decide to take off on their own, would he be capable of withholding them?
no subject
Come on, Kanaya, you can't just send me back. You're not my lusus!
[omg Kanaya all this fussing is so uncool.]
Besides, if we stay here and hold back the horde then they'll be safe back there! You should focus on that instead.
no subject
I have, in fact, been focusing on that. It's the main reason I came here personally. But now you are likewise present, and so your safety becomes a topic deserving of my focus, as well!

[She was moving through the swarm like something akin to a tiny natural disaster, and she made her presence known near Kanaya suddenly when a creature, cut in half and leaking ichor, came hurtling through the air to knock one of the creatures right near the troll flat on it's back. A second later Laura was on top of it, stabbing it cleanly through the eye and neck at the same time with her claws.]
[She was covered in small injuries that were healing over, and she crouched on the two dead creatures in an almost animalistic pose, taking a second to catch her breath.]
no subject
and so, she leaped from the corpse she'd just finished with and onto a passing flyer, tearing at its shoulders until it steered downward into a new wave approaching. she then pulled a portal in front of them to confuse their progress and got her chainsaw ready until they found a way around it, catching whatever second wind she could in the meantime.
she was very tired, herself, but at the same time she couldn't allow herself to acknowledge it. ]
no subject
You should retreat.
[This was stated rather matter-of-factly as Laura fell into place next to her, claws popping out of her hands and feet again.]
no subject
I vehemently disagree. There's work yet to be done here, and I have no intention of simply walking away from these duties while they remain unfinished.
[ the creatures were starting to work their way through her momentary bottleneck, so she took a moment to rev her chainsaw before setting upon them once again ]
no subject
[Laura saw that attitude in a lot of people, really. She knew that Kanaya was different, and possibly just as difficult to kill as she was...although her healing took significantly longer. Which meant that if she did make a mistake, she'd be useless for the rest of whatever this insane invasion was.]
[Still, she followed the other into the mass of monsters, tearing into them with the same rather horrific efficiency she'd had earlier.]
no subject
[ after all, the important thing in this situation had absolutely nothing to do with kanaya's needs. they would, if anything, only serve as an obstacle in the path of her duties.
the important thing had everything to do with a chainsaw and some monsters, and as few others having to dirty their hands as possible ]
no subject
[Laura had no idea what the girl's endurance really was, since she really had no information on vampires on any world, let alone vampires that glowed and had horns. But she somehow doubted 'fight forever' was one of their skills.]
no subject
