[The kid's eyes are wide, but he's scowling]

Okay.

[He opens the door, and marches Eames through, stiff-jawed. It's a pretty ratty place; stuffed with old newspapers and ragged, but clean. The man who was yelling before isn't yelling now. Come here.]

Got homework.

[The man is moving, now, but the kid is faster, and then they're through a door, which he closes. Arthur's standing next to the window, staring out. The kid moves to the bed and sits on it, and stares.]

[ and eames is standing in the middle of the room. he puts his hands in his pockets, looks from the boy to arthur. ]

That's the last time I believe you when you tell me you're fine.

[Arthur looks more than just a little annoyed.]

I've survived worse. I didn't know that this would create such a mess.

[ just as eames suspected he would. ]

It did. Do you know how many dreams I stumbled through looking for you?

[ it's not anything but a statement. eames isn't chastising. he can save that for later. or perhaps let zatanna do it. ]

Probably as many as it took me to get here in the first place.

[Arthur turns: the kid is on the bed now, just watching.]

I see you've met my family.

Unintentionally, yes.

[ eames gaze moves from arthur to the child on the bed. ]

Don't.

[Don't judge, or don't look at him, Arthur isn't sure what he's warning against. There's a knock on the door. A woman's voice. If you don't make all A's, you better at least come out here and spend time with your family.]

[ in retrospect, eames isn't sure where he imagined arthur came from. perhaps he'd assumed arthur sprung fully formed from a lab somewhere. ]

What would you have me do?

[ there's no way to stop himself seeing. ]

Is there a kick?

Not this far down.

[ if only he'd ever asked cobb how he'd managed to escape limbo. it'd been a conversation topic eames had avoided like the plague, but now... ]

Cobb and Mal killed themselves.

I don't know how.

[The train issue was never something that he discussed with the former employer]

[ killing himself, or arthur, is really not something that gives eames pause. he's done this before.

there's a pause while he considers it, and then eames takes out his pocketwatch. i'd need a few hours, zatanna had said. this far down though... ]

I suppose asking you if you could feel your body up above would be foolish.

[He manages not to roll his eyes but it's a near thing.]

It's a good thing I can turn off my militarization.

[Now the knocking is pounding. The kid on the bed is hiding his head under a pillow]

I'd have welcomed well-dressed men shooting at me.

[ which says a lot about how eames feels about the current situation. the angling of his body between the door and the other two occupants of the room is subtle, but there. ]

I'll keep that in mind.

[Arthur frowns a little]

So what do you know?

Beg pardon?

[ too much. enough. enough to call arthur thomas and know it wasn't simply an alias. ]

Nevermind.

[Maybe if they pretend, this won't turn ugly at some point down the road]

[ eames expects it will. there's no real way to reconcile it. ]

Zatanna is waiting for us up above.

How to get there is the question, isn't it?

[There's a pause]

She must be worried.

She is.

[ it had been an unpleasant thing, telling zatanna what had happened. ]

She's healing your body. I came down to bring you back to it.

And we still don't know how.

[ eames falls silent. he has been careful to remain in the middle of the room, not to venture forwards nor back. now though, he relaxes just slightly, taking a step to the side. ]

Do you think we could make one? A kick large enough blast everyone out?

[Arthur thinks about it]

Somewhere there's going to be a room with enough C4 to try.

[ eames looks at the boy on the bed before responding. ]

Then we should get moving.

[The boy on the bed looks at Eames and moves, holding onto Eames' hand. Arthur looks away, because this is embarrassing, before he speaks.]
