SUMMARY: Bucky decided to have a poker game and invite… whoever wanted to show up. THIS MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN VERY SMART.

Bucky wound up solving his food problem by ordering three bags of something or other stacked high with white take-out boxes from the Chinese place his neighbors were always going on about. He also made sure his apartment was spic and span. It was a remarkably tidy space: nothing interesting on the walls, no television, and now a couple orders of cashew chicken placed on a big card table in the center.

He'd bought a few decks of cards from the corner store and unwrapped one of them, flipping the cardstock between his fingers. Yeah, he was ready to play poker.

He's actually from my world, or one like it. I know a version of him that's a little older, so I think I cheated when it came to the befriending him part.

[ She pauses briefly, just looking over quickly to wherever Bucky is because she doesn't want him to realize they're talking about him. She is curious, after what he and other Kate have told her. ]

How weird was it to arrive here and find a younger Bucky?

[ carol risks a glance in bucky's direction as she leans against a wall nonchalantly. it feels weird to talk about buckycap with tinybucky right there. ]

Very weird with an extra suitcase full of weird added to that. But it's nice to be able to get to know him here.

I can imagine. [ Nods. ] I've yet to meet anyone from the past. [ Other than Two-Face, maybe... but that's not as drastic as Bucky still in WWII. ]

So how did you end up meeting our interesting host?

We talked a little about relocating and places he'd been. Army brats tend to find their way to each other.

Not so much sneaky as much as people don't ask. [ Because you're evasive at times, Kate. GEEZ. ]

[ Oh boy, she starts with the more personal questions. There's a measured pause as she opens up her own can of beer. Also, Carol will notice the Special Forces insignia tattooed on her arm.

She's surprisingly calm about this, but there's a hint of awkward. ]

[ there's a slight pause because carol... doesn't want to pry... but uh. there's no way to really reply to that without prying. ]

You mind if I ask what kept you from doing it?

BTO informed me I was under investigation regarding my conduct. [ She shrugs; lying about it would never sit well with her. It's just not her. ] I couldn't tell them what they would have wanted to hear.
