WHO: House Tonksgood & friends
WHERE: House Tonksgood
WHEN: Boxing Day!
WARNINGS: None so far.
SUMMARY: Andromeda, Luna and Nymphadora have a holiday get-together of their own.
FORMAT: Whatever works!

[Food is courtesy of anyone who's brought pot-luck dishes -- Sanji, to say the least -- and there's a good amount of fizzy punch to go around, both alcoholic and non. Kids trying to sneak a sip of the stronger stuff will find it loses its bite when they take a sip, however.]

[All the girls have helped with the decorating, and the house is literally aglow with bobbing candles and glittery spheres.]

[There's also some mystery dishes by Luna -- one of which Andromeda is sampling cautiously.]

[That's all the time, Gemma.]

No reason. Your choice of passage was apt.

[Hush.]

I'm glad you approve.

[Don't you sass the narration, girl.]

I said apt. I never approved.

[I do what I want. And she looks almost hurt.]

Ah. I see.

[personal profile] onewrongword 2011-12-28 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
But apt is close enough.

Any particular reason for your choice, however?

[She shrugs, for the first time looking a bit unsure.]

The words of writers like Milton and Dante have always... comforted me.

They were something you were familiar with before you came to the City?

[She nods, rubbing one of her arms.]

While I was in India, I was tutored. But Mother made sure I did some extra reading. [She smiles a bit.] Milton isn't my favorite, but I didn't think you'd appreciate Jane Eyre quite as much.

I've read it.

[Dry, vaguely amused. He was poor once, and a voracious reader. Didn't matter if it was romantic tripe, he read what was put in his hands.]

But Dante is certainly higher on the list than Jane Eyre.
psychomancy: cintiadicker @ LJ (Hrm → Is that the truth?)

[She was impressed; not many men she knew had read such books. Then again, she had the same sort of addiction to written word; she had been scolded by her parents more than once for being late to dinner due to a good book.]

And Milton?

Yes.

I had an extensive library at home.

So did someone I used to know. He told me once that he'd never read any of the books in it, though. I thought it was a shame.

[Thinking about Simon didn't hurt as much as she once might have expected.]

Why have the books if they serve no purpose?

Exactly! I never understood why he didn't. I suppose he just wasn't the sort of person to be interested in literature.
